RE: Returning to hobby and undecided
Caldera 10E would be my suggestion as well. Dads summed up everything you need to know about it.

RE: CALDERA 10E - UPGRADE RECOMMENDATIONS???
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I bought a Caldera 10E for my son on on his 6th birthday. He just turned 7, runs the thing constantly with 2s LIPO and in a years time I have replaced 2 parts. A broken shock and the initial stock servo that came with it(replaced under warranty). I have put way more money into fixing issues on my Traxxas Merv (Mini E-REVO). I still love the thing. 1. My son's has been a little noisy from day one. 1 year later still going strong with the same noise. 2. Range has been fairly good on ours. Not sure exactly how far but it goes far enough to barely be able to see it. 3. Never seen that issue. 4. That is annoying and have seen that as well. Usually just need to adjust trim.

That does sound really strange. Perhaps you have a bad bearing causing the wheel not to turn?

RE: twister runtimes with a lipo?
I can't really say for sure, but I would guess around 15-20 minutes on a 3000 mah battery. Lipo VS Nimh is a night and day difference. With LIPO's the batteries are capable of supplying max power over the majority of its runtime, where Nimh's fall off.

RE: What does everone think of there earthquake 8e's?
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner i just drove my e 8e for the 4th time today. the stub axles seem to be a bit weak. i have broken 2. but i by no means go easy on this truck! backflips off ramps, jumping snow banks ect. i do find the steering has a bit of play. not that its any worse than any other monster truck i have owned, but i do wish it was a tad more stable. now, i have driven it mostly onroad thus far(cleared parking lots, still snow on the ground) but i did get to do some off roading and it clearly handles better on grass and dirt than pavement. so, would i buy it again. im 50/50 on that. not cause i dont love the truck, but because if i had to do it over agian i might pic the aftershock 8e. my buddy just got a nitro aftershock. the smaller tires ballon less and clearly out-handle the earthquake. but then, one is a race truck and the other is a monster truck. if the earthquake has any fault, its that its too powerfull...lol.
I have noticed the axles to be weak as well (broke one today as a matter of fact.). The Earthquake 8e is a blast, but the big wheels seem to put a lot of strain on some of the parts. On a side note does anyone know of there is upgraded Axle? (BS808-001)

RE: which is best for backyard bashing?
Those are both very nice vehicles. I would however suggest a Caldera 10E for backyard bashing. My son who is 6 has put his through hell and back and it has yet to break anything. Only issue is stock servo but I think that might be taken care of now with newer units.

RE: Earthquake 8e ESC Smokes on turn-on
You may try unplugging the servo from the reciever as well if you haven't already. There might be some type of short.

RE: What would Redcat fans like to see come out next?
ORIGINAL: cswtornado Something that durability isn't a concern. Redcat's cars are regarded as CatCrap because they break if you look at them wrong. With boats durability really isn't a concern.
Your Mileage may vary, but my Traxxas Mini E-Revo has had 5x more problems than my Redcat Caldera 10E. My Earthquake 8E suprisingly for how much punishment it has been through for roughly 8 months now has only had one issue with the front hub/carrier where the bottom screw just falls out, gets stripped, or something. I need to order the upgrades there I guess.

RE: Problems with Earthquake 3.5
I can't say much about the 3.5 because I don't own one, but I have been shocked at how well my Earthquake 8E is holding up. I let a few friends drive it and they beat the living hell out of it(it was to much power for them, their only other experience was with toy grade R/Cs) and everything held up fine. Oh and my Son's Caldera 10E (He is 6 btw) has been rock solid for a year now besides a servo issue that Redcat took care of right away. Honestly I couldn't be happier with my Redcat's. My Traxxas Mini E-Revo has had more problems than both of them, but I finally have upgraded all the kinks out of that and it has been solid too.

RE: Charger questions
Hello RC Freak I have experience with the Earthquake 8e but its basically the same truck so I will try to answer your questions. 1. The included charger does not. 2. One Battery at a time. 3. Roughly three hours for each battery. 4. Just guessing but I would say around 4 1/2 - 5 Hours.

RE: Program Cards
All the program card does is allow you to change the settings on the ESC through an easier to use interface. You can change all of the same settings through the speed control itself by using the SET button and watching the LED blinks. There is absolutely no reason you need this device, but it is a fairly cheap nice to have item. Roughly $30 for the top of the line one or $10 for the smaller one.

RE: Caldera 10E anyone?
We just recently ordered two Caldera 10Es. One red one and one blue one. Within I would say 30 seconds of drive time on the blue one the servo went out. The red one however is still going strong without any issues whatsoever. After doing some investigating the servo wires on the red Caldera 10E where different colors than the ones on the blue one. Which leads me to believe that they had a bad run of servo's and updated them to a new version? (Both had the same model number on the front) Besides that issue they have both been running great (replaced the one servo with a spare I had). Redcat is going to send a new servo out to replace the defective one. Also on a side note .... Lipo's really bring the Caldera's to life.

Caldera 10E Battery Size (Dimensions)
Hopefully someone can help me out. I just recently ordered a Redcat Racing Caldera 10E. I'm looking to purchase some Lipo batteries for it and was trying to find out the dimensions of the battery box/tray so I didn't have to do any modifications to make it fit. Can someone with a Caldera 10E measure the battery box/tray and post the dimensions? Very much appreciated. Also if you have any experience with the Caldera have you noticed any weak links/parts?
