I understand your points about wanting to keep it mellow for the kid, a few points though, brushless is less maintenace and infinitly adjustable and these days probably cheaper. I was running some 6 cell NImh in Velineon 3500 kv brushless system and its pretty slow but fun and hassle free. When brushed motors started with all that replasing stuff inside them I went to nitro and stayed there until brushless

RE: Need all buggies!
So defensive over an inanimate object lol j/k. What I mean is RTR kits usually contain lesser components than their kit counterpart. For instance the cheaper non threaded shocks on the rc8.2e. The kit also has a 4s max esc. Thats lovely but it also has a 2000kv motor. Most people will be runinng a 2650kv or 2200kv on 4s, One could run on 5s and be competitive with them but need a new esc. If somethings RTR it should be put together by pros, not 3rd world kids. I would love any RC rtr or not and I know you aren't racing so this will be 1 fun buggy. Just saying I should be incharge of all RC kits in the world. I will be inspector #1

nothings really RTR anyway, You buy a rtr that just means a crappily put together car you will need to disassemble and put diff lube in and shock oil and adjust everything and locktite it all up. Buying a kit actually saves you 1 step of having to dissasemble 3/4 of the thing to get it dialed in

yeah plus rear dogbone and all kinds of stuff, after the chassis and cvds you may aswell buy a truggy, run the buggy as is, or flip it and get a truggy, or you can make the buggy a onroad GT8 with losi l8t model parts, a nice kyosho body and some Ipanema slicks :)

Bashers should be allowed to "run what they brung" at the track hehe. I brought a Muggy on 40 series Mulchers with a MMM 2200 on 6s to a track a guy was in the process of finishing. Paid $10 to "practice" with a few guys with slashes and sc-10s. I had made all new lines, ruts in jumps and berm angels throughout the whole track after a few packs. I bet he made some new rules after seeing that the next day.

Summit or brushed revo, you can still run them on 2s lipos, new brushed esc's have lvd. You're in PA ? Snows coming, both those are waterproof ! Winter Fun Fun Fun .. My vote summit, its so big what kid (or adult man child) wouldn't like it

RE: Ofna GTP2e or DM-1 Spec-e
either one you can get down to a 1:1 spur pinion if you order Single Speed Conversion, 8mm shaft revo spur gear from rc-monster.com you can get either cars spur or pinion to a revo 34t He also makes an 8mm to 5mm bore reducer so you can use a single speed conversion mount as a pinion, both with integy delrin 34t pinion for nitro revo. He has custom motor mounts for the DM-1 and the GTP also. Stock the dm-1 will only go 47spur 19p, the ofna mount sucks. Mikes mount and you can go much bigger pinion. But for smaller spur you need single speed conversion. Them being evenly geared now except the diffs, dm-1 has better adjustment and handling (can get a carbon fiber upright shock mount from snr graphite) but the chassis with all the cutouts isnt great for top end (people have fabricated chassis overlays) GTP has better diff ratio.

RE: Looking for an on-road/touring car
for the 1/8th onroad most people just thrown in a Castle Creations Mamba Monster system 2650kv combo or a smoother sensored Tekin RX-8 with TT2350 4030 2650kv motor which are both sick fun on 4s lipo for racing and anything more 5s,6s for speed runs over 100mph. Servo, faster and stronger the better, Team Associated DS1015 is a nice choice IMO (im running a savox 1258tg) skip that servo, very loud and power hungry. Any lipos with a roar rating will fit the battery trays (generally), 2s roar 5000 mah in series. Im using some gens ace 2s, some zippy 4s, some reedy 4s and for speed runs 6s (2x3s) neuenergy 5000mah for my DM-1e. Then new tires, stock tires with these kits suck, fun for sliding in a parking lot though. Get some wide slicks[link]http://www.ipanemasports.com/Pages/GTSlicks.aspx[/link], lower shore the softer

RE: Racers v. Bashers (the vehicles not the drivers)
ORIGINAL: supertib I do not agree with you on this one my friend( at least not when regarding 1/8th cars )............. Racing is all about durability....cant win if your car is broken.............. A basher cannot usually be made to be a racer simply because it usually lacks the durability needed to race.......A Racer usually has durability to spare to be bashed, as racing is more punishing on a vehicle then bashing is........ Now just to ask, which vehicle do you consider to be a basher that is more durable then a racer ? Also 1/8th race machines and 1/10th race machines are totally different... 1/10th usually lack durability, however 1/8th machines are totally different animals that have excellent durability..............weight is not much of an issue in 1/8th as the cars all have minimum weight standards to adhere too....... and they have been at this weight limit for years...... You will not find a 1/8th monster truck that can match the durability of a 1/8th buggy or truggy........most 1/8th tracks just tear the MT's apart..the last LST that ran at my track broke into 2 separate pieces on our big triple jump....the last Savage at the track couldn't make 2 honest laps without breaking, and the only way it could survive is if you rolled all the jumps and drove excessively slow...........by contrast the 1/8th race machines can run the track weekend after weekend without breaking............... durability wise Serpent 1/8th cars are nearly indestructible.........
ok yeah that makes more sense for the 1/10th and the general rtr. .. If I had to think of a more durable basher than my losi 8 t kit converted to brushless it would be far more expensive than the truggy like a supermaxx with vbs kit and racer-x setbacks and Ti cvds. Then you wouldnt want to bash that id consider that a racer too even though its a MT. Im thinking more like maxx/savage/muggy/lst2/ as basher, a car/truck thats can/has to be modified, be it diffs, mud flaps, a rubbermade bumper. RPM skids ontop of aluminum skids. Purpose built for urban assault, an all terrain vehicle that isn't great at either. Racer sure you can do all that but its a new set of proline pins after 1 run on 6s through the neighbors yard down the street 4 wheelies and a curb hop $60, all the buggys truggy racers are limited to ROAR type crap so they arent as individualized could have a weight limit, bashers must be over 11lbs in 1/8 and racers under lol just rambling

RE: Racers v. Bashers (the vehicles not the drivers)
Racing is alot about weight savings. Bashing is about durability and long fast run times. Racers will run a 3200mah lipo if its enough to finish the race, with the lightest components. Basher have shock boots, skid plates, 5-8ah lipos, heavy wheels/tires. When a racer breaks something they usually have another few of them in the field box. Where a basher breaks something they go home and look online for a more durable after market one adding another 12 oz. You can bash a racer but all you will do is thrash it, you cant race a basher (and be consistently competitive) IMO
