RE: RcGuys Pitt's
If you want a great Pitts you should look at Aeroworks. I have their Pitts and it flies great. I've had the RCGuys Decathlon which flew great, replaced some of the hardware but otherwise a nice plane. What disappointed me the most about RCGuys is they use ChinaKote. You will find it difficult to repair covering as Monokote and Ultracote do not match the colors. Jerry.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
I feel like from the time I first contacted you until this point there has been an issue of integrity. When I contacted Hobby Hanger last year about the short kit and contacted you about the plastic parts I got the same answer "any day now". This went on for many months while I worked on the model, gathered equipment and finally when to Fiberglass Specialties to get my nacelles, tips etc. I sent multiple emails to you which went unanswered or came back with a terse answer. Near as I can tell this issue with plastic parts has been ongoing for almost two years. Now I sit with a complete model probably worth $1500 with no canopy. Gaines is nice enough to work out a solution which has seemed to evade you for two years and you pull the rug out from under him. Either you intend to support your customer base or you don't. You can't keep telling us the check is in the mail. Jerry.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
I'd be happy to pay for a canopy at the $50 level. I've got an open air OV-10 ready to fly, I need a canopy BAD. Plus, I'm really irritated at those Hobby Hanger guys. When I ordered my kit they told me not to worry the plastic parts will be here soon. They are probably still telling their customers that same story. All the parts are currently available at Fiberglass Specialties except the canopy. Someone please send them a canopy so those of us still in a bind can purchase one from them. Jerry.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
I'm not getting replies on my emails either. Doesn't look good for the future of the OV-10 when the trial goes cold to the supplier of plastics. You can get the plastic pieces in fiberglass at fiberglass specialties but we need someone to produce a canopy. Jerry.

RE: so whos flying the aw 100cc ultimate
Several guys in our area flying them in IMAC. They are the best IMAC plane according to those that fly IMAC regularly. The issue with them or any bipe is the setup time. Its roughly 20 minutes to put together then another 20 to take it apart. I flew the 100cc Ultimate and it flies like its on rails just like the 150 version. The setup time was the issue for me since I tend to fly after work and have limited time I didn't want to spend 40 minutes each night setting up and tearing down. I bought the AW 100cc Yak instead. Jerry.

Any of you heard from Rich on plastics yet? I've got my booms and fuse done and I really need a canopy. Not to anxious to start on the wing if I'm never going to see a canopy.

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Opened mine up yesterday and was surprised at the quality. Looks very nice. Many of the parts look to be the same supplier as Aeroworks as they are identical. I see what you mean about the throw on the ailerons. Doesn't seem like much throw but I guess I'll wait until I fly it to judge that. Overall though a nice ARF but an expensive one. I'm going to build my first large scale electric using this airframe. Rimfire 160 and 12S, should be interesting getting all that in the airframe. Jerry.

RE: DS 821 throttle?
I really like the 821's on the 20cc gassers. Check the AW Proxy, I've got little mini servo's for throttle on that guy per the instructions. A good inexpensive servo is the 5645MG's. I use them on all my throttles and choke for the 50cc and up models. You can get them pretty regularly on RCU for around $35. fyi, I did have two 821's strip on me when I used them as throttle servo's on my 50cc rides. As noted I guess the vibration finally gets to them on the larger models. Jerry.

RE: E-Flite Retracts For H9 B-25
Snoop, I use the Eflight retracts on several warbirds but the H9 B25 is too heavy to trust those retracts in my opinion. I had a H9 B25 (nice flyer) with the Robart gear. I have put the robart struts on the Eflight retracts by simply boring out the strut insert to 5mm and cutting off the wire strut on the retract to into the Robart strut insert. I have found that the extra weight of the strut does require a 6+ volt system. I run a separate 6 volt battery for the retract to give them the extra boost they need when operating the Robart struts and wheels. Jerry.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Hey Wayne, I thought about that but I use the JR failsafe receivers which are $150 each. Figure I'd just throw more extensions at the problem instead of spending the money on multiple receivers and four batteries. I've got the main fuse complete, working on the nacelles then its on to the wing. Jerry.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
People don't realize how bad altitude sickness can affect a person. Every year we have folks coming to the mountains from sea level attempting to climb Longs Peak and die due to altitude sickness. At our altitude we lose 25% of our power and have to prop up due to thin air. Now on the bright side we average 10% humidity too! Jerry.

RE: Two engines with one tank?
One other suggestion. I'd break those 20's in on another plane. We've found the 20's to be more temperamental than the DLE55's. They seem to need some break in time before they get good and solid. The other odd thing is that those motors don't seem to like synthetic oil. Several of us have had issues with dead sticks using syn oil on the 20's . We switched to non-syn and never had a problem. First time I had experienced that. Jerry.

RE: Two engines with one tank?
Thunderbolt, I've been using a single tank in my twins for some time now. If you do a search on AMR Twin Stick you'll see my latest bird that uses a single fuel tank. I'm building a OV-10 right now with DLE20's. I fly the DLE20 on my AW Proxy and you can fly a good 8 minutes on 4 oz. A 14 oz tank feeding two DLE20's would give you plenty of flying time. Jerry. I do my feeds just as you suggested with two pickups with one of those being T'd to the fill line. Here's how I do my setups;

RE: *Sig Rascal 110 ???*
If you are going to replace robart style hinges cut them apart with your dremel/saw and remove the metal pin that connects the two pieces. Then take a brass tube slightly larger than 3/16" (size of robart hinge), grind a coupe of teeth on the end put it in your drill and run it over the hinge point. It'll pop out of the hole and leave you with a nice clean hole that you can reuse when you re-hinge. I use gorilla glue as it expands and will fill any void. No need to redrill, countersink the holes etc. Just reuse the existing hole. Jerry.

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
Ron, been following your thread. I use only the failsafe receivers. I have left my batteries in the plane for weeks and never noticed a drain on the battery. There is a very small drain when in the off position but I've not noticed any issue with battery voltage dropping under load when I test them with a battery checker after weeks in my trailer. I have 8 planes with these receivers and love them. I have all mine setup such that I only have four battery packs to keep the entire fleet running. I simply switch batteries to the planes I intend to fly that day. Keep the dust flying, Jerry.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Its a AMR Twin Stick with DLE55's on it with Beila Props. The kit is made for 30's but since I fly at 6K feet I need extra power. This Bronco was suppose to be something simple for me to use up some of my stash of balsa after finishing the Twin Stick. Before you know it you got another big project, $600 worth of retracts, $500 worth of motors and about a million servo extensions, just to use up $40 of scrap balsa. Pretty typical of my thought process!

RE: AMR Twin Stick
Finally got this bird finished up. I built the wings per the plans except to add a hardwood plate at the bottom of the nacelle to allow a wing strut to be connected to the landing gear. Using DLE55's I was worried I'd get vibration and stress that the plane was not designed to handle. The addition of the wing strut was to give me some peace of mind that the wings are more secure. The strut is made of 1/8" x 3/4" flat aluminum with a balsa shell sanded to shape. In my previous post I mentioned I was concerned about the bird ending up nose heavy with the DLE55's so I moved the rudder servo to the tail. That ended up being a bad plan. I ended up putting 2 lbs in the nose to get to the CG. If any of you guys build this bird in the future keep the rudder servo in the fuse as per the instructions.

Maybe I'm missing the tree in the forest but I'm not seeing anywhere on this wing plan where it states the spar as being balsa or spruce. I'm guessing balsa is fine but thought I'd ask you guys first. Jerry.

RE: Reactor / gear ripping out
The Reactor has terrible landing gear. Its weak and the mounting plate is poorly constructed. What I did was cut out the fuselage directly under the gear plate and put a 1/4" 5ply plate for the landing gear. I then replaced the gear with a replacement set from TNT that was 2" taller and made from 1/4" aluminum. Make a balsa block sanded to shape to replace the fuse section you cut out and you are good to go. I had over 100 flights on mine with zero problems after this fix. Eventually sold it and repalced it with 100cc Yak. The Reactor is probably the best flying 50cc plane I ever owned. Check the Reactor thread here on RCU for more details about this issue and possible fixes. Jerry.

RE: 50cc Reactor
Go to TNT and order a aluminum gear with the same measurements of your current gear. Use 1/4" stock and add two inches to the height. Thats what I did on my Reactor. Part of the problem with their gear is that its not tall enough for a 23" prop when running a DLE55. You need the extra height to avoid prop strikes. Jerry.
