RE: whats the baja 5sc top speed with stock gearing?
ORIGINAL: bbuzzard I got 43mph on the 5B with stock gears and 23cc motor...I'm sure the SC/5T should be faster due to the tire size.
The 5SC / T has a 19T gear opposed to the 5B having a 20T gear in the transmission. It is lower geared to make up for the tire size.

RE: Dodge's Custom Puller Build
ORIGINAL: dodgedude780 I cant say I have. I think with all the weight on the rear of the truck once the sled is attatched, it would be that much harder to keep it in a straight line. If your talking about doing that in order to keep the weight of the engine over the front, to help keep the wheels down, its not necessary, Between the 5 to 7lb skid plate I have coming, and the 6lb bull bar, I cant see the front of the truck coming up very easily
I was just thinking so you would have steering if and when the front end came up off the ground.

RE: RS4 MT2 convert to car? + Engine questions
Mine is a MT2 and it came with a T.15 engine, and purple chassis. It was fun for beginer rc but after having a savage it was kind of pointless to even fire it up. I had an OS .18 TZ Turbo engine. It would literly twist the main shaft that the spur gear mounted on. It was fun to run in the snow with paddles on all 4 corners. Carburetor was the same size as the ones on your 4.6 savages. RE: Savage decision?
I have an X and prefer it to stay an X. It is a monster truck. It is supose to be tall, narrow and short. If you want something that handles well buy a Truggy.

RE: Can all savage engines fit each other?
Pretty much any .21-.36 car engine can be fitted in to a savage. It just has to be pull start / roto start because you cannot use a bump box to start the engine. The .21-.36 car engines are pretty much universal. They have the same mounting demisinions, and crank demisions. Traxxas on the other hand decided to build their own engine so you would be forced to traxxas for replacement. There have been other engines that are desinged to replace traxxas engines so stay away from them as well.

RE: Bulletproof differential questions...
ORIGINAL: cummins driver Ok guys, got some time to fool with the differential tonight. [8D] Got the old one out and I didnt take it apart, but couldnt see any flat spots on the ring or pinion gears. Started moving the ring gear, and apparently it lost the bearing on the ring gear side and is causing a lot of play. The gears still look pretty good though, I must have shimmed them well, so I believe they will be salvageable for another day [:D]
Yea bearing failure is what usually what happens to me. Dont shim it to tight side to side other wise you will put excess side load on them. The newer style bearings are larger on the ring gear side to help with the problem.

RE: Manifold studs?
Here you go. 30mm or 35mm lenght is your choice. It has an allen wrench in one end to make for easier installing than a standard cut pice of threaded rod. http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.7222/.f

If you run race fuel in your gasser's then you will get no fuel smell. Mine is sitting the the living room now with 3/4 tank of fuel in it.

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers
Wonder how the power is. If the engine is around the same size as a regular .28 then I bet it is pretty gutless. The reason why the nitro motors make so much power is the fuel that they run on. Take one of these and mod the carb (more fuel flow) then run it on methanol and nitromethane and you would have a pretty powerfull engine. They dont even have a round exhaust port. It is rectangle like the old car engines, and air plane engines.

RE: Advice on 1st 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: cheezer1222 More power? Yes (more parts to move). A lot more power? Absolutely not. A stock 23cc engine will move any 4wd vehicle just fine.
Move under its own power and fun to drive are two different things. If you can drift or do doughnuts with your 4x4 1/5 scale on pavement then it would be fun to drive.

RE: Advice on 1st 1/5 scale
ORIGINAL: cheezer1222 Your statements about 4wd vehicles lead me to believe that you've never driven one.
My first two RC's are 4wd. HPI MT2 with an O.S. .18 TZ Turbo. Second RC is a HPI Savage with a LRP .30. Take the front drive shaft out of ethire vehicle and it is out of control. You cant get past half throttle with out doing a couple of cookies on the way. With the OS .18 TZ in the MT2 you could balloon the tires up like a pizza cutters.
I just dont really find my Baja totaly out of control to the point where I need 4wd. In order to make 4wd fun to drive you need a lot more power. If your racing on a track then 4wd would be a lot easier to drive, but not nessessarly faster. That is all I was saying about 4wd, and if I want a 4wd vehicle it would be the Losi 5ive right now, maybe a HPI Baja if they ever decide to come up with a gasser. As for the bad looks, the buggies are not to bad. I could live with that but the Ramage XT is hidious looking from the side. http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/1-5-Scale/Rampage-XT-GAS

RE: Advice on 1st 1/5 scale
I dont know how much of a difference 4wd would make with a large 1/5 scale. It isnt like they are insainly out of control in 2wd. At least not until you start buying built motors. I have a Baja 5SC SS LE kit that came with no engine or radio. I put a stock Zenoah G290RC engine in it. The biggest draw back for me is how the redcat's look. It looks like you took a 1/5 scale on road car and put a pickup body on it, it doesnt fit or look natural.

RE: sensored brushless vs non-sensored
I would go sensored if it was me. You get smoother brakes and throttle at lower speeds. It isnt a huge deal though. Once the brushless motor is running at a certian speed it switchs to nonsensored mode.

RE: Bulletproof differential questions...
ORIGINAL: cummins driver Thanks guys, I knew the ratio was slightly different. 29/9= 3.22 43/13= 3.30 Pretty small difference. I dont think it would hurt anything on an offroad 4x4. Id rather do em both at once, but the front diff has about 12 gallons on it and counting... hate to replace something that aint broke[:D] I can buy the whole unit for about $35 a piece I believe. Assembled diff, case, and shock tower. Probably should just do that, but we'll see. haha Or I could always bulletproof the back and make it 2wd[:D] Might be a lot of fun that way [:)]
I would do both other wise it is going to be hard on the whole drive train from the tires to the clutch on the engine. I guess I like my savage to be able to coast freely and not have it feel like the brakes are dragging. My front diff usually goes first due to the back flips.

RE: Losi Diff Locker by Vertigo
ORIGINAL: junior driver I am wondering what the locker is ? what is the difference between the stock one and this ?
The factory losi setup is a center differentail. It has side gears and spider gears in side. It is more of an All Wheel Drive steup than a 4wd. If the front end comes off the ground the front tires will spin and the rear will get no power. Kind of like when a left or right tire comes off the ground with a 2wd car. The diff locker replaces all that makes it so the front and rear tires both get power equally no matter if the font or rear comes off the ground or not. It is more of a true 4wd setup. Kind of like most 1/8 scale monster trucks.

RE: what advantages does the baja 5sc have over the 5b?
If the price of a body is what determines if you buy car x over car y then you probably shouldnt be getting in to this hobby (or at least large scale any way). The larger the car the more expensive parts are. It isn't nothing to drop $100 bucks in parts for these things. The price of a body, or the arugment that they (large scale in general) are cheaper because they run gasoline vs glow fuel is not really a valid arguement. If your going to make the plunge and get a large sale rc, then get the one you want, not the one that is the easiest on the wallet. If the wallet is the ultimate decision then keep all the money and dont buy one. You will be much farther a head if the goal is to save money.

RE: Whats a better gas to oil ratio for the baja 5sc 26cc?
Regular Klotz Techniplate is 100% synthetic. Klotz Benol is 100% Benol Caster oil. Klotz SuperTechniplate is 80% synthetic 20% Benol Caster oil. If you want to run a 100% synthetic Klotz oil look at R50. It is a good clean burning oil.

RE: cheap servos.
ORIGINAL: llkoolskillet Eh... minor details and you cant beat the price tho I use the CS-170tg for steering 333oz/in tq @6V $84 shipped @ advantagehobby.com
That is the one I run as well. I prefer a High Speed servo for the Throttle / Brake duity. If you have enough torque to lock up the tries and flip it on its top, I dont see any need for a stronger servo. A fast throttle is nice to have for doing wheelies, and indo's. That way you can just blip the throttle or brake to keep it up on two wheels.
