RE: Pics of my scratch built Whizard finally!
ORIGINAL: propbuster Thanks guys for the nice comments! I have to thank jboy381 for donating the plans, and hfenn for the wing set, and not to forget vicman for the trailing edge! Rog, I'll be bringing it to the Fun Fly for sure! Depending on if I crash my contest plane on it's maiden or not, I will have to swap out the receiver to fly it, as they are sharing one as of now.[8|] If the contest plane will stay in the air, I'll use it in the pylon race[:D], Prop
prop, you can thank me by having lots of fun with the airplane...after all you did the work...the plane look fantastic BTW... hope to see you at the meet, maybe i'll get a shot at flying the wizard[8|] john

RE: First Annual "REEDY" Pylon Race
ORIGINAL: BobHH Well, I beleive the course we used to fly was 200 feet from 1 to 2. Then 60 feet at a 90 to 3. Maybe 225 feet for 2 pylons. I will try to try it out this weekend. Rog, I have yet to build my racer. Got the laser cut parts coming in tomorrow. Too lasy to hand cut them out. Bob Harris Early RC Models www.earlyrcmodels.com
Bob, ok,now i understand...i'm flying at a football field...it's 300 feet...i'll try to fly from goal post to post...then i'll short'n the distance between the flights... does anyone know how long the quickie 200 race is??? john

RE: First Annual "REEDY" Pylon Race
ORIGINAL: hfenn How are you going to pit an airplane while others are still flying around the course? Suppose yours quits and lands on the backstretch? I wouldn't run out there to fetch a plane while the others are still buzzing away. I'm just saying consider safety.
well i can't think of everything(LOL)...really i didn't think of that, that would be quite dangerous... john

RE: First Annual "REEDY" Pylon Race
ORIGINAL: ptulmer Assuming that the power level is the same for the product engines, you could limit how much fuel is put in the tank to 8cc's and keep a level field. Just stating the obvious![;)]
thats right,if people want to use the product engines, they are haveing worries about running out of fuel...8cc's will get you about two laps before you will have to refuel...1oz will get you though the whole race...now should we stop to refuel or fly the whole race??? john

RE: First Annual "REEDY" Pylon Race
bob, will there be any rule on tank size???are we talking about a fuji tank or a "store bought" one???how much fuel will it need to hold???if we're talking product engines, these questions need to be addressed...i'm for eather one,but i do think it will be more fun on a regular cox...with less fuel there will have to be a pit stop or two before the end of the race...witch means land, refuel, restart and launch... BTW, has anybody flew 5 laps, the distance of the pylons???has anybody said what the distance is between the plyons???or are you going to surprize us so we can't get in any pratice time[:D]...this is going to be so much fun...i can bearly stand it[:)][:)][:)] john

RE: What airplane for Cox Sure Start .049
look t the GWS line of airplanes...just about all of them would make good glow planes...i'm not sure how the fuel will act on the foam, but if it works out ok it will be a great plane...it should fly better than electric due to the weight saving... good luck happy flying... john

RE: First Annual "REEDY" Pylon Race
ORIGINAL: BobHH Yep, Dan I think just keep it simple. the rules are: 1. Must have a Cox Reed valve integral tank mount engine. 2. Any design is legal as long as the pilot can demonstrate complete control 3. 2 pylons will be used to simplify the course. 4. Fuel and props will be provided. 5. Still need to come up with an entry fee to cover the awards. What are the suggestions $5.00? 6. Each flier must have fun. How's that? Bob Harris Early RC Models www.earlyrcmodels.com
i like rule #6[:D] john

RE: 1/12 scale pilot figure-where to buy?
warhwk, try a GI joe man with no legs...you might even have to cut the torso a bit,but not to much it'll make the arms to long...you can get a really cheep one at walmart for 88 cents...granted it's not a true GI Joe but it'll work... give it a try... john

RE: 1/2 A STARTER "HOME MADE"
i built one of those...i used a 2 inch piece of PVC...used a motor from a power wheel vehicle...also for a starter cone i used a 1/2 inch piece of PVC with a wood insert and a piece of hose from the auto parts store...oh i forgot about the switch from radio shack...i plug it into my power panel and it works great...i made some end caps from 1/4in plywood...never got around to painting it tho... john

RE: First Annual "REEDY" Pylon Race
i really like the idea of a reedy pylon race...i've read the other posts, and think that a BW,BB/wbig tank,GB,and texaco would make for some fun for all of us...but i haven't heard to much talk about a plane...are we going to (fly what we bring) or have a single design???it don't matter much to me eather way,but let me know if i need to build something... are we going to use three pylons or two???i think two would make for a nascar type of track,or maybe we could have a figure 8 race...yeah i'm going to suggest that we have a figure 8 race...who knows we might have some midairs[>:][X(][:(]now if we use three,it would make for less lap due to the larger corse...eather way it would be great fun... i don't know alot about this kinda stuff...so don't ask me to make any rules...i just want to fly with you guys and have FUN doing it... john

RE: Guided Mite
i built one a wile back...it weight in at 7ozs...it flew ok but a little slugish...if i was to build another iwoulduse lighter wood than the plan calls for...1/16 sheet sides with 1/16 as doublers...also i would use lighter wood for the bulk heads...but i would not make holes in the sides to lighten it...the dope finnish on theses models really makes them look their age even tho there build in the present... build one and have a ball... john
