RE: You Know You're A Jet Pilot When??
When you only own one prop plane and its made of foam. Worse yet you only fly it at sunset because its too dark to fly your turbines.

RE: Kudos to Jet Central
ORIGINAL: Vincent Why is this ''story'' so exciting?? i get that kind of service from my ''brand'' all the time.[:-] Vin...
Vincent, what was exciting to me was that I had a used turbine with 46 hours never having any issues, sent it in for a rebuild and it was returned looking absolutely no different than if I had ordered a brand new one. Seriously everything was new; the battery, tubing, solenoids, extensions, Festos, everything that comes with a new turbine for less than 1/5 the price of a new Rhino. I really have no idea what Jet Cat or anyone else charges but I'd guess its much higher. I owned 3 Jet Cat's in the past and know that service work was fairly expensive. Not sure if that is still the case or not. The Jet Cats were fine BTW...just praising the good work of one of the turbine mfg's.

Kudos to Jet Central
Although I’m a long time user of Jet Central turbines I generally stay away from the threads arguing over which one is the best, who has the best service and which ones are better served to be flame throwers. It’s just way too political and besides many of us in the hobby are brand loyalists that will never change. But something happened recently that is just too good not to share with everyone. At SJS in late September my 5 year old Rhino, serial number 60 with over 46 hours of flawless use and no service history flamed out on the takeoff roll. It had never been in for service frankly because it was produced before the lifetime warranty and I felt why mess with it at 25 hours if it was running fine. Well I decided it was time to let Eric take it back and let the factory rebuild it. To my total surprise what I received back was basically a brand new zero time turbine complete with kero-start and a new battery for a price that was very reasonable. Great job Jet Central and Eric!

RE: Jet Central Rhino or Jetcat 160
I have two Rhinos, one was used several years ago when i bought it and before they offered a life time warranty. Its at JC now for service for the 1st time in 47 hours operation. Never had any issues with it and its always put out a great deal of power, I'd guess at least 36 pounds. In the end it comes down to who you want to deal with, all the top brands are likely very close.

RE: What the jet community is all about
ORIGINAL: DavidR In light of the ''Not good for RC'' thread and the bickering, bigotry, and disrespect of people in general I got to witness the real good side of our community this past weekend at Shreveport, Louisiana. Ron Shwartzcof, a long time modeler and all around good guy did one of the most selfless things I have seen in a long time. Ron bought raffle tickets, won the raffle and in turn gave the airplane he won to fellow modeler and I might add also a another good guy Greg Moore who had lost his new model at Waco. Kudos to Ron! That was the highlight of my flying season this year. DR
+++ for David

RE: Who is going to Mid Georgia Jet Rally ?
I've been to Mac Hodges place several times over the last few years and flown my Kingcat, its a great venue for sport jets and some larger geared military jets. Probably not the best for heavy metal but if you fly a Flash, Lightning, Kingcat, Boomerang, Reaction, etc you will be fine. The runway is large and for the most part in very good condition except a couple places to stay clear of. There is also one of the best hobby shops in the SE on the property, not much in the way of jet related items but everything else you can imagine. The last few years the event was held in the summer, doing it in the fall will be a big improvement! Its always been a very laid back event, not well attended but I'm sure the heat had a lot to do with that. Not sure quite yet if I will head down or not, just getting back from a couple of weeks in Asia the day before it starts. Here are a couple of photos from Mac's that were taken during a full scale Cub evert this past April. You can easily see how large the runway is.

Touch base with Gary at Jet Tech, seems to me he made a smoke tank for a Kingcat that fit in the middle of the main tanks. If not he could make you one. http://www.angelfire.com/wi/jettech/page2.html

Without going through 60+ pages of posts here, does anyone know what manufacturing changes SM has made since the initial production kits to over come the "issues" the first kits had? I'm referring to canopy issues, rudder, leading edges, missing hard points etc. I'm thinking about replacing mine.

RE: Fule Ramp Issue on Rhino
ORIGINAL: BluFox Jim: Please re-start then watch the following readings: 1. Temp during the start/ramp process 2. PW - please watch this as it will tell us what the fuel pump is doing 3. RPM & PW recorded at time of ''slow down'' Is this new? We can adjust starter power at preheat which may help. Your question 1. Yes fuel pump auto shuts down during fuel pump test when it reached pump limit Your question 4. Normal. . .you opted to abort the start. You can turn the system off then on and auto cool will resume.. .or you can use your throttle stick to manually cool down. Please advise. Regards, Eric
Eric and Mike - thanks for the replies! OK I ran the turbine and Murphy's Law kicked in, no issue at the 27K-28K RPM level like before and it went right to running. I started it twice and neither time did it do what it was doing yesterday. I did fully charge the battery between yesterday and this morning, its a 2700ma pack and it took nearly 2000ma, so it was low but not dead by any means. I do have a video of the start up and high-speed running so you can see the exact parameters while it’s running. I did hear what I thought was a compression stall near full throttle although the turbine was so loud the video did not pick it up. Eric could you please take a look at the video and let me know if you see something wrong. Like I said before I'm leaving for Mississippi on WED and really need this in 100% shape by then. I do have an extra fuel pump and solenoid if necessary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu-ys4iZTjo

Fule Ramp Issue on Rhino
Trying to diagnose a problem on a Rhino with a fuel ramp. Turbine starts on gas perfectly, starts to ramp RPM, slowly (seems to be slower then normal) gets to about 27K-28K RPM and starts going back down in RPM and sputtering a bit, so I manually have to shut it down. This happened 3 times and then finally went to "running", then flamed out during taxi. Sounds to me like a fuel delivery issue of some sort. So time to start the process of elimination... 1) Fuel pump, go into test mode and first test the fuel pump with the supply line off the turbine. Pump spool up begins and the pump gets close to high RPM and then suddenly stops, is this normal? Or is it reaching some limit and shutting down? 2) No air or blockage in the lines that I can see. 3) Any idea what the symptoms are for a solenoid issue? 4) Separate issue, when I do shut it down or after the flame out its not going into cool down, any idea what is causing this? What else should I check? Its Easter and heading to Mississippi Afterburner on WED so need to get this fixed today if possible and Eric may be tough to get given the holiday. Thanks for the help!
