RE: RCU member and jet modeler in a serious accident
Just think about all the practice time he could get while mending. Quick, somebody get a flight sim to him. Get well soon!

RE: 1/5 Hybrid Hellcat
I have video of the first flight of the Strato. But I did not get any of my Fokker first flight. It went well also. I have some great video of the Hellcat and LOTS of different people hand flipping the prop.[;)]

I wish mine had 3 rings. I have one of the first ones. It only has 2 rings. But it runs nice so no problems.

RE: Fokker D.VII 1/4 Balsa USA
Gee...you might have to twist my arm for pictures.[;)] I looked at your F4U build. It looks like re-building an ARF is more work than building the thing from a kit or scratch. But I know your builds, and it should be fantastic.

RE: Fokker D.VII 1/4 Balsa USA
Well the first flight is in the books. Just like all of my Balsa USA DVIIs it needed a lot of down trim. But I was ready for that. The NGH 38 cc four stroke ran perfect. Lots of power for this bird. And it was not too loud out in the open of the flying field. The one thing that gave me a surprise was how much of a floater this bird is. I had to go around on the first attempt. It is sort of nice, but I will have to keep in mind that my other DVII is not so soft on it's landings. Smiles for Balsa USA and this kit![:D]

RE: NGH 38CC 4 stroke
Well I put in the first flight today. The motor ran just great. And it had more than enough pull for this airplane. It is not that loud at the flying field. But it still shakes a lot. Oh well. So far I am happy as can be with this motor.

RE: Bulding a 1/4 sccale BUSA Fokker D7
And here is an interesting question. If after building my DVII and painting it in the color I always wanted to do, black and yellow, I win another DVII at a flying event. (Which I did.) What should I think about for paint this time? I thought about doing a V11. No guns, no paint, not a lot of cowl detail. But how would it fly? Oh the fun has just started all over again. [:D]

RE: Northern Alliance Military Fly In - 2012 (Owatonna MN)
And the cost is going to be around a grand. But that is just the price that the BUSA guys "thought" it might be. They were not sure. But they said that it came with a bunch of the goodies, spinner, fake motor, interplane struts already bulit, and others I can't remember. Boy, it sure flew nice on the gas 64.

Here are the few I have. The new Balsa USA 1/3 scale Albi, VERY NICE. Dawn patrol roll out and a low full size fly by.

I built and flew the 1/3scale Spacewalker. The kit was about average and the construction was not hard. But man-o-man did it fly well!

RE: Taylorcraft crash
ya know...You ask if we think the Mfg should replace your plane due to bad design. And when people tell you "no" you get all up set. If you don't want people to answer your question with an honest answer, don't ask. Or at least tell us that you are not really asking for our opinion, you just want us to confirm yours. My answer is also "NO" for the reasons stated already.

RE: Top Flite Giant Corsair ARF Disappeared.
Balance ALL planes that have gear that retract to the rear with the gear UP. That way, it will be a bit nose heavy when the gear come down. And a bit nose heavy with a dead motor will help land it.

RE: 1/4 scale Balsa USA Focker D7, leading edge question
And if the W2 (or W4) rib is taller than the rest, that is a problem. The top of the top wing should be flat across the top. It is built upside down to help in that area. So if you have a taller rib, mine was W7, it will need to be made the same height as all the rest.

RE: 1/4 scale Balsa USA Focker D7, leading edge question
I thought when I built mine the top sheets butted up against the leading edge and the bottom shetting went over the leading edge and was blended in. So if the ribs are too tall you have your choice of fixes. 1) get a bigger part 2) sand the ribs down 3) add a strip of scrap wood the the short part to make it taller 4) just send it to me and never worry about it again.[;)] I think the fastest way to fix it is just to add some scrap. It all gets covered up anyway, so you will be the only one that knows about the fix. I think I have my instructions here someplace, with notes about the build in them. I think I ran into the same problem, along with others.

RE: Painting Solartex fabric
I love Solartex. I painted Lusterkote right onto the stuff and it has been fine for the past 2 seasons. And I like the dirt build up, makes my WWI birds look sort of "used".

Well, i gave it a try and the wife said, "You should do the one with two wings, you have had 2 tri-planes already." So I will get one on order as soon as they are ready. So cool. But I think I should have told her I have a tripe on ordere already......Naw![:)]
