RE: FP or LA
I prefer the OS40FP engines , they seem to be made much better than the LA series. But I like the TT GP42 best. I have 2 GP42s, one LA65 an LA46 and one 40FP. All run well , some just better than others. I like air bleed carbs just fine. I would rather have a good air bleed carb than a bad (cheap junk) twin needle carb.

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***
If the rotary intake valve system is well fitted it shouldnt leak too much while its running, I use fuel with plenty of lube to provide the extra seal needed there and with a good percentage of castor.

RE: need help picking a engine
And contact Bruce Fischer down in Iowa City for an engine. brucercengines.com he is the president of the Aerohawks. He has several large 4S engines available, he runs a few YS engines in his planes and is really good with them.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
My name is Jeff and I have a Saito addiction (Saitoholic?). I now own 4 Saitos and have 2 mounted to planes that I fly weekly . I currently own an FA40, 45, 50 and 62. I fly the 40 and 50 but plan to replace the Magnum 52Fs on my Escapade this winter with the 62. Surprisingly the Mag 52 runs "almost" as good as a Saito (provided I feed it 30% nitro) . My Saitos will all happily run 15% nitro. I think the 45 is the smoothest , I need to get it mounted to something.

RE: TT .39 heli engine ruens glow plugs
If you are having fuel delivery issues it is probably going lean and burning up the plugs. Check for things like cracked fuel nipples, ho;es in fuel lines , carbueretor gaskets leaking, loose fuel fittings etc.

I have also had a throttle servo that was jittery at idle and caused problems, it was supposedly digital but it was a cheap chinese one so who knows.

RE: Glow engine woes...
Auto parts store? As an aside, I am not a huge fan of Magnum engines but I have a 52 FS on my Escapade and have flown it for several hours now with great success. It took a long break in but it runs like a champ now. It lacks the refinement of my Saitos but it also lacks the price tag. I purchsed a Saito 62 to replace it but to tell the truth I am so happy with the Magnum 52 that I am dragging my feet swapping it out (that and I am a lazy SOB lately). I landed some 30% nitro fuel for cheap, and the 52 LOVES it !!

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***
I use Merlin Plugs myself, I often end up with a cold car plug like a 2006 in my airplane engines. they are long reach plugs of excellent quality and he has enough heat range selections to satisfy any need.

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***
Lowering the nitro content or installing a colder plug can improve the midrange.

RE: Glow engine woes...
Glow heat affects timing, if the glow plug is too hot the ignition will occur too soon and lower the power output. This can also be affected by higher nitro and higher compression. With the glow igniter attached you are artifically making the glow plug hotter.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
Perhaps yours has had the mods to prevent flutter? Or maybe you got one of the better ones. Mine fluttered with an Irvine 53 using an 11X7 prop. No damage but it did get my attention. And I had made mods to stop flutter. I am not being critical of the Epade it is one of my favorite planes but it has its limitations. In fact I am leaving just now to go fly it.

RE: Fuel lubricant not slippery?
Clean the carbs and try them again, it may be dried castor oil in the barrel or you may have some burrs on the carb parts that are causing the issues, it isnt unheard of.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
The Epade is known for having difficulties with high speed flutter so pushing the speed is done with caution.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
I just brought the Saito 62 home yesterday, I plan to do some maintenance to the Epade and install it perhaps this weekend. It already flies so well with "just" a 52 four stroke that I imagine it will be excellent with a 62. I have an OS 70 Surpass but it looks way too bulky to put on the Epade.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
You can remove the seals from your bearings to promote lubricant flow. I leave them in the front bearing and remove them from the rear one.
