RE: TD .049 mount
ORIGINAL: Dan Vincent Sure looks like an old OK Cub mount to me. Here is my mount for a Cub .099.
I have a box full of old cubs but I don't think I have ever seen one of the mounts. Thanks for posting the picture. I try to learn something every day. Now I have gotten that over with for today. jess

RE: Glow Plug Temperatures
There are a number of factors that make up the "heat" of a plug. The insulator, volume of the space housing the coil..... There are also short plugs, long plugs and OS plugs which are sort of in between. Some engines are sensitive to changes in plugs, most are more tolerant. Glow plugs have been in common use since 1947 and sometimes there are still no absolute answers. jess

RE: Aero .35 Does anyone remember it?
ORIGINAL: skydevil1 Here's a picture of mine. Bought it about 45 years ago and it was originally mounted on an Ambroid Ares Stunt C/L airplane.
What a beautiful airplane! I had the pleasure of watching Bill Werwage win the Nationals with the original. The shape of that Aero 35 must have been a perfect match for the nose of the Ares. jess

RE: Problems balancing wood props??
ORIGINAL: Charley What's wrong with wood props on 4-strokes? CR
The greater weight of a synthetic prop provides more flywheel effect thus making it easier to achieve a smooth idle. RE: Anyone get their credit/debit card info stolen lately?
I have had two instances of credit card fraud. Both were caught by the company and neither had anything to do with online usage. In both instances my number was copied when I had used my card in restaurants. the number was evidently sold and used in another part of the country. In one case the culpret was caught and turned out to be a multiple offender. I don't know about the other. I was tolt that this tyoe of ID theft is far more common than that resulting from online usage. jess
ORIGINAL: combatpigg A toy is an object that you use for play time. I guess if you made your living with it we could think of it as a tool? Dragsters are also dangerous and none of the men who I have raced with or been around had any trouble thinking of their cars as toys. There's got to be something Freudian going on with the exact scale crowd?
I agree. My personal toys include some $3,000+ precisely made chemically operated paper punches otherwise known as target pistols. Improperly used they could be as deadly as an automobile or even a book of matches. They are still toys as are golf clubs, motorcycles, model airplanes and an endless list of other recreational artifacts. jess

RE: Cool Power 5 % glow fuel opinion
I understand that with some of these miracle oils the oil need not be mixed with the fuel. If a couple of ounces of the oil is placed in close proximity to a container of methanol for a moment the methanol can then be used as fuel, providing hundreds if not thousands more RPE than other fuels, requiring no break-in running and giving infinite longevity to the engine which runs for long periods on only a few drops of the miracle mix. There are rumors that the next generation of the oil will enable the substitution of tap water for methanol. jess

RE: Is there more to AMA than paying your money and flying your model airplane?
I suppose the value of the AMA to an individual would be in part dependent upon how that individual views his hobby. It seems that most here describe their hobby as "RC". I consider my interest to be "Model Airplanes" and "Model Building". I enjoy freeflight and control line as well as radio controlled model aircraft. I enjoy building and have no interest in ARFs. Perhaps an organization such as "Academy of Remotely Controled Flying Devices" is needed? jess

RE: Norvel .074 - when is tight too tight?
ORIGINAL: gkamysz We don't really know how Norvels are produced. I did some investigating a while back and no anodize shop could say what would be best for manufacture, whether the bore is finished before or after anodize. I'm under the impression that the bores are lapped after hard coat anodize for appropriate surface roughness.
Greg, You use the present tense when referring to production of the Norvels. RE: Norvel .074 - when is tight too tight?
ORIGINAL: AndyW Jess, You probably had two of the regular Norvel engines, which were set up pretty tight. LiteMachines helis used Norvels and they had immense problems with tight engines. On the last production run however, the engines were quite loose to the point where there was almost zero pinch at TDC. This doesn't seem to hurt as some of my best Norvels use the LM piston and liners.
I had not known that, Andy. (Your post now represents 100% of my knowlege about LiteMachines helis). I have a dozen or so Norvel .049s & .061s which are pretty consistent in pinch. Your explanation makes perfect sense. Thanks. jess

RE: Norvel .074 - when is tight too tight?
I have three Norvell .074s. Two were too tight to turn over slowly, the third not tight at all. In the case of the two tight ones I just heated them with a heat gun and fired them up. After a couple of runs they still had a noticeable pinch, but could be turned over without binding. jess

RE: AMA and what does it do for you??
I remain puzzled as to why those who view the AMA with such fear and loathing feel they must hang out here and leave post after repetetive post. Why not drop out of the AMA (if you are a member), don't communicate with members and clear it from your mind. If you find you are still obsessive seek professional help.
