RE: New full 3d capable Eurosport
Hi guys! I am on the way to buy an Eurosport 3d universe. I want to use an iGyro to control ail, ele VT and rudder VT and a separate gyro for canards (if needed) There are 2 different opinions: 1. Some guys recommend to use 2 gyros, one for elevator/pitch and one for yaw/rudder vectors. Ok. I agree but I cannot unerstand what really these gyros do for me! I understand the yaw gyro will correct me the plane during a roll (we know that a plane intend to yaw to right if the plane roll to left). In this situation the gyro will do the correction for me. Am I correct? But I cannot understand what the elevator (elevon) gyro do for me insteed of the fact that helps me when an external force comes on the plane (wind)? 2. the 2 Germans flying the J-10's have totally 4 gyros: 2 gyros on VT, one on roll (elevons) and one on canards. Oh my god! What am I thinking is as follows (but not sure): Please correct me if I am wrong! I am thinking at the following setups: Which setups you consider the best (or other modes are welcomed) MODE1 I assume the plane is tail havy Canards connected independently on a gyro1 to correct the pitch movement (plane tend to pitch up because tail havy), elevator mixed with TV, gyro2 on aileron, gyro 3 on rudder So, in this case the plane will take-off short thanks to the VT and the unwanted pitch movement is corrected by the canard gyro 1 because there are enough airflow on the plane. Is it correct? This setup will help me also in level flight because the canard will make me all the pitch corrections. Do you think that the purpose of using the gyro on canards is to make the plane more stable in flight? I cannot see other explanation because in high alfa or hovering the gyro1 has NO effect only during flight! The job in slow flight could be made only by VT pitch gyro. ! What do you think? Mode 2: I assume the plane is balanced properly canard mixed with elevator, elevator mixed with VT and VT gyro 4, ailerons connected to gyro2, rudder on gyro3, no gyro on canard (or?) What happen in this mode in slow flight? The pitch VT gyro 4 is ON but it is really active only when the elevator stick is in the neutral position or an external force appear!!Same for gyro2 on ailerons! if i pull or push the elevator stick the gyro doesn't work! Could somebody explain me what really such gyro4 on elevator VT can do for me and when? These are my oppinions theoretically!! Could somebody explain me other setup opinions for an eurosport or other canard plane? To use 2 gyros or 4? Why 2 and why 4? what are my benefits? i would very much appreciate your help thanks Zoli

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Hi guys, Could anybody help me in a turbine issue? I have a Frank turbine 14 kg and a projet electronics old version. I start the turbine and the engine started without any flames. Immediately (maybe i made a mistake) I push the throtle to full max! The turbine does not accelerate and I have seen that the cone of the turbine get red and at above 10 cm from the end of the exhaust the fiberglass of the fusselage started to melt! I stoped immediately the procedure and the GSU gave me the message "OVERTEMPERATURE" I decide to make a CALIBRATION RUN! What happened? The engine started and during the acceleration process a big flame arise at the back of turbine and no acceleration! The message on the GSU was "Under RUN RPM min". After then I checked the turbine and was wet! I thought that the kerosin valve is blocked because does not close and push the fuel into the turbine. I changed it but is doing the same thing , does not accelerate , flame appears and give me the message (UnderUN RPM min). Could you help me to solve the problem? What to do? Could be the pump? Could be the ECU? could be the RPM optical leds? could be the engine damaged after the OVER TEMPERATURE start? many many thanks Zoli

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Hi Jim, Regarding the fuel tank we spoke before. I understand that larger fittings and tubing are better if the tanks are connecting in series. What I want to do? I replaced now the hopper with a BVM made UAT and I increased the size of the fitting from 3 mm to 3.2 mm because my tubing have 3.2 mm inside diameter. I checked the whole instalation separately and I filled in, and took of the fuel with my fuel pump filling set and everything is Ok now! Additionally I want to use additionaly my friend idea to use a 90 degrees bended aluminium tube (airwent witch comes out from the fusselage) with one end in the direction of flight and the other goes into the fusselage to the last tank airwent. In this way during the flight I will have overpressure in the fuel tanks and this way the pump will work properly and no boubles can be arise to create flameout. It was tested in my friend Grippen and works perfectly. What do you think? zoli

Jim, Thanks Jim! How you switch the landing gear up after take-off? On your 3 pos switch in UP pos (3D and take-off) the landing gear must be down at takeoff and up when 3D flying. In the middle pos (normal flying) the landing gear must be UP ! I am wrong? Zoli

Jim It means that if I will have the mix set as you suggest, during takeoff I will have the canards 18 mm leading egge up (9 mm initial setup and + 9mm coming from the mix when landing gear out). After landing gear is IN I remain with the 9 mm canard initial setup. Is this correct? Zoli

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Jim, Many thanks for your kind reply. Nice video and super cool plane!. Congratulations! Looks fantastic. Maybe the real Gripen is tail heavy and deflecting the canards down (leading edge down) to lower the nose would have a very high effect to slow down. In my case I need to rise the nose during landing and let say 25 % throtle to keep a high alpha to slow down and land safety. As the manufacturer suggest the canards are set at an 1.5 degrees angle (9mm) as initial setup. From this position I can move the canards 30 mm up and down. Do you mean to add 9mm more(leading edge up) when mixing the airbrake with canards after the switch is activated when initiate the landing procedure? I already mounted an airbrake down on the fusselage in the CG. Greetings Zoli

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Jim, How do you use the cadard for airbrake? Do you have a special switch for landing which mix the canards to become airbrake during landing procedure are initiated? If this switch is on, the canards still works together with the elevators (elevon)? I ask you this because I have a Kithira (2m60 lenght and 2m wingspan). You can see the modell at http://www.generic-fly.de/produkt/25_kithira.html. No airbrake was developed by constructor for this model.I mount an airbrake at the bottom of the fusselage, arrount the CG, in order to slow down the plane (too much speed at landing). This airbrake is not enough and I was wandering how can I make another mixture...let say with canards. Any idea? Zoli

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Hi Jim, I checked my fittings and tubings. All tubings are 3mm (inside diameter) and 4 mm the fittings. So, I will do what you suggest, and I will increase the fittings and tubing diameters. Additionally I would like to place the 2 main tanks in paralell with an Y fitting. So, from the hopper i will have 2 equal lenghts tubes to the tanks and the suction will be made from all the 2 tanks at a time. I will place the airwent on both 2 tanks separately and both out in the fusselage separately. I think that must work. Do you think that idea would be a better choice? Zoli

Hi Jim, My friend recommend me to use a fiberglass hopper and no more problem by collapsing the hopper at full throtle! he use it in his Grippen and other jets without any problems. It is home made. This way the pump is placed close to the hopper tank for a best suction purpose (about 1.5"). Rgs Zoli

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Hi guys, Question: I have in my plane one hopper tank and 2 other 2l tanks. What happening? When I take out the fuel from the tank the hopper tank cannot get air and get smaller (due to the missing air). I rtied also on the ground at full throthe and do the same issue. This is a big problem. The tanks are in series. The end tank has to air-intakes with 3mm inside diameter. What to do? need some help! The tubing is the standard Tygon yellow colour. Maybe during flight when I will fly at half throtle the hopper will recover, but who knows....! In this way the pump could create boubles and in consequence a flame out and.................
