RE: Houston - Are you there ?
I'm made it without too much damage at the house. A section of my fence was down, but I got that back up yesterday. A few roofing shingles were also blow off and got that repaired. Been without power since 1am the day of Ike and running on a generator. Lucky for me my ski boat holds 30 gallons of gas that I've been tapping into for gas up my generator. I've ran low on beer twice and had to restock. Did a big fish fry on Saturday with my a lot of my neighbors to try and empty out some of the fish in my freezer. Sunday we partied again with Fajitas and yesterday was BBQ chicken and pork chops. With the power out it's almost like camping in your front yard. JR

RE: GREATER SOUTHWEST PICTURES
Chuck and I became local Waco celebrities as we made the front page of the Local & Texas section of the Waco Tribune-Herald for Saturday Sept. 6th 2008 edition. However, you can't always believe what you read as I told the reporter that it was not my plane but from the article you can see it was reported as being mine. It was actually Chuck's new Reaction 54 ARF. There are more pictures of the event to be found at - http://www.wacotrib.com/photos/mediahub/09052008_modeljet/slideshow/index.jsp?tId=118524

RE: GREATER SOUTHWEST, WACO TX 9/4-9/7
I'd like to send out a big thank you to Larry and the other HOTMAC members for putting on yet another great jet event!!! And I finally achieved a long time personal goal of burning at least 5 gallons of Jet-A during an event. I met my goal late Saturday afternoon and was almost 3 tank fulls into my second 5 gallon jug when I had a brake problem and was not able to get my Discovery jet to rotate. It was already late in the day so I decided to call it a day and enjoy a nice cold beverage. A special thanks goes to Steve Ellzey and Bob Price for helping me to degaus (sp?) my rpm sensor magnet on Friday. It's nice to have friends with skills!!! It was also nice to visit and talk to all my other jet buds that I've had the pleasure of meeting over the years!

RE: Central Texas Jet Rally
I would like to thank the Austin gang for putting together another great jet rally. Unfortunately I came down with a cold some how riding with Chuck from Houston to Austin. I didn't really feel up to par to fly my Discovery jet so I sat back and enjoyed this year's event as a spectator. And as always enjoyed the many conversation with all the regulars. Also, Thanks Sean for letting us see your workshop and drink a few cold ones. You've got a cool shop for constructing anything jet related. Just surprised you have tried to build a turbine yet with all your CNC stuff. See everyone at the next jet rally! JR

Sorry guys. I moved servers and have not had a chance to upload the information to the new site. Give me another day or two and it will be back up. At least I know someone is getting some benefit out of the stuff I did on the site. Oh, I now have an HD camcorder (Canon HV20) and will be putting some more stuff online soon in HD! JR

RE: I need help on a scratch wing I'm doing
Sean, I would just round the corners and be done with it. As long as you are installing spars they are going to distribute most of the force during a landing. If you're worry about the retract plate being too small, just add a layer of carbon fiber underneathe a bit. But I don't think it will be necessary. What wing is this for? Megabar??? JR

RE: fuel tank material
I've made a few fuel tanks over the past 3 years and I prefer a couple of layers of 6oz fiberglass cloth and West System epoxy. I have a method of securing 6mm Festo fittings to the tank which makes for easy plumbing. Depending on the crash impact I don't think any tank will survive. I've made a tank with Kevlar and I much prefer the the fiberglass cloth. The fastest method of molding your own tank is to carve the size you need from foam and then saw the tank in half. Wrap clear tape around the foam and glue each half to a piece of 1/4" MDF that also have clear tape on the surface. Mix up some epoxy and drape fiberglass cloth over the tank. When cured, pop off the halves, plumb the tank, and glue the two halves together. Can be completed over a weekend. JR

Austin - Central Texas Jet Rally 2007 - Pictures
David and I just got back from the 2007 Central Texas Jet Rally held this weekend in Austin. The weather was great and the wind was little to be found and what was blowing seem to be straight down the runway. As usual the Austin gang put on another great jet event. For those of you who did not attend you missed out! Instead of driving to the event, David and I flew a Cessna 172 from Pearland airport to Austin Bergstrom. We managed to get in 3.6 hours of flying time round trip of which 1.6 was logged as night time. Here are some pictures for all who did not attend. JR

RE: Discovery Jet Pictures
Barry, Had fun and need to fly out there more. Sean, A little clenching for the first few flights as I was learning this new jet. Totally different situation then the Super Reaper. The Discovery is really a great all around jet. Chuck, And who commented they were still shaky? Gary, What can I say...you missed a out again on a great day of flying. I actually few around with a few prop guys too. Scobee is really a good field for jet flying in Houston. All, How about another round of fun on March 15th? JR
