RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Hi Gary, Good to hear the Javelin is still going O.K. I really liked that plane so smooth to fly.[:D] Decided to get my L39 back in the air but thought 100 plus psi was a bit high, nice to know it is the same for all of them. More powerful cylinders might be the solution?[8|] Will give it a go again with the stock units & see how it gets on. I remember with mine that the doors on closing use to push up the mains for final lock & they would come down with 35 lbs psi. Shows hoe heavy the legs and tyres are. Maybe worth getting lighter tyres? All the best for now, John p.s. Anybody tried putting a spring in the cylinder to help with pushing the legs up or is this a no no.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Hi Guys, Just started cleaning up & reworking my L39 ready for some nice weather. ( after a year + layup ) Am I right in thinking you need plus 100psi for retracts to lift the mains? I remember putting plus 100 psi in when first set up but even after stripping & relubing cylinders etc still need 110 plus to get up & locked. Is this the same for all L39's? All the best. John

RE: Do your Jets Scare you
Not scared, but very respectfull. I love flying my jets but always get a buzz flying my low cost reaper trainer, my first jet. Probably because I have flown it so often that I know its limititations & never worry if the turbine runs out of fuel again because I know it will land out safely without any damage. Fixed undercart and light wing loading. ( have so much fun with it often ignore timer & run out of fuel.Dead stick landings add a challenge/hone the skills of flying) I use it as a test bed for smoke systems, new radio 2.4 on board cameras, etc, again because I never feel uncomfortable with it. I try & get a few flights in with it prior to taking out one of my more expensive scale machines just to get back in the groove & relax a bit. I fly of a very short grass strip with my local club.( 120yds long X 8yds wide ) A bit like carrier landings with a stationary carrier. So good to get a few non scale flights in first. I think nervous would be a better description than scared with the anticipation getting the adrenalin flowing which tends to hone your skills & when you land the scale beauty on the mark with a gentle roll out what a feeling.[:D][:D] All the best, John

RE: Simjet Turbines Help needed
Problem sorted. Just found that the screw on the block next to the thermocouple connecter is used for calibrating the thermocouple. Noticed that the vibration from the starter motor is just enough for the little blighter[:@] to turn itself backwards slightly. Turned it forwards about 10 degrees and all works fine[:D], will reset the value for start up manually, then a dab of paint on the screws head & sorted. Thank you all for your help, Regards, John [:)]

RE: Simjet Turbines Help needed
Hi Andersaa, I don't have a data terminal for the turbine, just the three light system. I don't think it is an rpm problem. As I said as soon as you switch the unit on it goes into cool down sequence red & green lights flashing which according to the hand book is a sign of over temp. After it spins up about three times the ready light comes on & it does a full auto start. It seems as though the temperature in the turbine is high even when cold. I am wondering what the white block with screw on it next to the thermocouple connecter block on the small pcb board inside the turbine cover does?? Re Xicoy FADEC, that was going to be my solution if I cannot sort out the original ECU. Unfortunately just been made redundant, so no income, so trying to keep costs down to a minimum & yet still enjoy myself. Thank you for all the help so far, Regards, John

RE: Simjet Turbines Help needed
Just come back in from the garage after putting it all back together. Same fault as before straight into cool down, then after 3 spin ups the ready light came on so did start up procedure & blow me she fired up perfectly onto gas & then onto fuel, shut it down due to being inside garage. It did cool down sequence then ready for restart. Started perfectly again about 5 or more times. Had a break then retried, again straight into cool down sequence but again after 3 or 4 spins ready light comes on & she fires up perfectly. It seems that the overtemp sensitivity is to close too ambient temp. e.g. as soon as gas fires up within a second or two the fuel pump starts to ramp up. Question, Inside on the pcb board is the mag sensor plus associated diodes, then there is the connector block for the thermocouple wires & along side it a white block with screw on its side. Is this screw for temp adjustment ???? or for something totally different. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks John

Simjet Turbines Help needed
After a lay off from flying, just dusted off a couple of my jets ready for this season only to find a problem with one of the turbines. Simjet 2300aes which on start up keeps going into cool down sequence. I have two of these units so have plugged working turbine into the others ECU & it still works as normal. Plugged faulty one into good ones ECU & it still shows faulty. So have sourced fault to the turbines inner control. I disconnected the thermcouple & tried it on my Wren & temperature was same as wren & went up when held inbetween fingers. So I assume that is working correctly. Fault light ( flashing red ) goes out if either the glow plug lead is diconnected or if the thermocouple is isolated from the turbine.i.e. if I touch the end probe or body of the thermocouple against any part of the turbine with the glow plug lead attached it goes into fault mode. Any ideas? or help would be appreciated. Thank you, John p.s. These are both the old style 2002 fadec in silver case with 3 light remote switch system.

RE: JetLegend F20.Tigershark.Maiden Video & in air shots.
Hello Andreas & congratulations on your maiden. As I said you will enjoy the Jetlegend F20 which I still think is a highly underestimated airframe. Good value for money with great performance with an average power turbine like our Simjet 2300's. Great to hear it all went well, All the best, John

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Denny, The advantage of the By-pass is that all of the hot gases are contained in it so you don't get any inside the Fuz accept for convection. Also you gain a Ram effect on the Turbine as you fly.i.e. As the plane moves through the air it causes the air going in the inlet ducts to ram/greater volume onto the turbine giving more aerodynamic thrust. Basically makes the turbine more efficient & helps with cooling. Without the by-pass all the excess air entering the intakes gets blasted around inside the Fuz untill it finds a way out. The bonus of not using a By-pass is that you can sometimes get more static thrust from the turbine scince it can scavenge air from anywhere around it and is not restricted to the influx of air from the inlets. But once flying the turbine will not get the ram effect. Personally I like the By-pass on the L39. Much neater install, quieter in operation & scince I am using a Simjet 2300aes, 25lbs thrust, helps when flying. A couple of photo's attached showing By-pass & tail exit. Hope this helps, Regards, John C

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
As per Banker, Don't use the bell & trim a bit off the inlet to bring the turbine as far forward as possible. Saves having to put too much weight up front. Very quiet using the full ducting & neater. Regards, John C

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Stivvy, Well done on the maiden flight. Sounds like C of G a bit too far back I know Jeff likes his that way, but unless you use a fair bit of neg expo ( Futaba ) it will be a bit twitchy on the elevator at that setting. Don't forget she's a big bird so it will take a lot to get her to roll. Also as you say flaps are great for slowing the L39 down. Also keeps it stable at lower speeds. All the best & regards to Jeff, John C Cardiff

RE: FlyCam One Video
Hi Guys, & Gals if any, Just got back from flying field. Had to wait while the rain passed over. Managed a flight with the camera on top looking backwards using the inverted video capture mode. Don't know why it stopped recording when it did,but what came out seems O.K. Paul, No music just lovely Turbine & wind noise need to turn down volume on speakers, don't say I didn't warn you. Plus a couple of Sun spots & even got a couple of smoke loops & a smoke stack. Great fun. All the best, John http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7mD8JudRcE p.s. You can tell how much rain we have had when you see the field behind the runway & pools on the strip. Over 4" in 24 hours. It was our clubs Flyin the day before but had to be cancelled due to the continuous rain.
