RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet
[8D] I look, but all I can see is the pretty blue. Great picture. I might say "wrong engine", but that E-60 just loves that color.

That was impressive. In the real old days, when we had a bad day at the field, we would say, "I'm going to buy a boat". Now I know what they really meant.

RE: Sundowner 50 Results. JETT 60 LX
Good news!!! We probably just stumbled into the right combination for ours. On another note we broke the nose completely off ours a week ago when we decided to see if it would stay on the table in a 20mph wind. The airplane was apparently not trimmed correctly as it did not pull out of the dive in time. As a result our continued tests for the optimum propeller are on hold.

RE: Mounting Remote Needle?
In this installation, all you have left to worry about is the tank. Remember 80% of your engine problems are the tank and the other 20% are your tank. You will actually get more (good) run time with a smaller tank installed correctly than with a big one installed incorrectly. always make sure you have 1/2" of dense foam around the tank--front, sides, back, bottom, everywhere--such that nothing can touch. Then pack it lightly inside the nose. If you wrap the tank, then cram it into too tight a place, then you defeat the purpose of the foam. Place the center of the tank at the center of a a side mount engine and carb or at the center of the fuel outlet of a more vertical engine (I do not buy airplanes that are not side mount--not worth the trouble of getting the tank right). Finally, if the tank is clean and there are no leaks (make sure the needle packing nut is tight) you will not have any fuel flow issues. Finally, this engine runs a 11 x8 for break in. Run it up to peak and back it down at least 1000 rpm, then sneak up on the setting until it is running nicely in the air, transitioning fast, and not blowing plugs. After you get the setting close, you can try the 11 x8, 12 x 6, or the 12 x 7. If you start getting heat, or have trouble backing down the needle a full 1000 from peak without falling off the pipe, then your prop is too big.

RE: BSE .60LX
I have stayed out of this because I am dead out of crankcases and can't weight an engine at the moment. However, I just weighed a brand new .50 and it weighed 16.9 with a nut and washer. This is the way we publish the weights so you can compare with other engines. However, I weighed a piston and liner and crankshaft of the .50 and .60L and the difference is 10 grams. 1/3 of an oz. All the other parts are the same except the case and it is actually lighter on the .60. This means the difference is less than 10 grams. dub

RE: jett 90 lx
I love to answer these kind of questions, which by the way are good ones. Nevertheless, I get to lecture a bit: First. I have a saying: If you assume the obvious you are probaby wrong. It is obvious that rods need oil holes, right. Well, guess what? They don't. The majority of the pumping is done by the motion of the rod moving up and down on the crank journal. Sort of like flopping your underarms and hands to make crude sounds in Jr. High....Every time it flops from the top of the journal to the bottom it creates a vacuum in the gap, sucking in more oil. Also, the majority of rod breaks are through the oil holes, so we learned (by not listening to the "Experts") that you do not need the holes and that, in fact, the holes make them weaker. This brings us another of my sayings, " People who say, "I know for a fact", usually have their facts wrong." Be careful of the advice you get at the field. Finally, the ports on sport engines will bring in more air and fuel if they do not have the angles. Mine do not have angles. The high rpm racing engines do. Thanks for the questions.

RE: Diamond Dust Modified
Nice Remote installation. If you still get some bubbles in the line due to heat or vibration, you might try a piece of thin plywood between the new bracket and the remote for additional insulation. I tried it years ago in a F-1 racer--just used 1/32--and the problem disappeared instantly

RE: Champ Race
Dave, the Radar gun was set at about 150 ft from the #2 pylon. We usually set it at 200. You get the most consistent results from being back, rather than standing at #2. We also carry wind meters to try and get real with the data. You get between 50 and 75% of the benefit of the wind. I have forgotten that you beat me. In fact, I think I won.
