RE: GWS EDF 40
I need a brushed replacement motor. The original is brushed and I am using two EDF 40'S and one speed controller. I don't really want to go to brushless. I remember about two years ago there was a replacement motor for these fans however I can't remember what the number is or who sold it. It was a drop in redplacement with the two attachment screws even the same. John

I noticed that GWS EDF's come in 2 40 size. One is a high voltage model. I have already burn out two motors and want to know if there is an after market replacement motor for the GWS 40 that will accomadate 3 cell lipos. Thanks John castronover

RE: JR PCM9X On 2.4 Can it be done
We are talking about two different PCM9 TX's. The one I am talking about is the Single stick PCM9 that was available in the early 90's. It was also sold by Circus Hobbies in las Vegas under license from JR. This PCM TX was only 512 and not switchable. Although the 2.4 module will slip right in it will not work.

RE: JR PCM9X On 2.4 Can it be done
It is my understanding that the JR PCM9 is NOT switchable from G and Z PCM to either PPM or S PCM. Am I Mistaken? If it can not be switched from PCM then I don't believe the 2.4 Module of any manufacture will work.

RE: JR PCM9X On 2.4 Can it be done
I'm confused. I thought that you could only use a 2.4 module with a PPM (FM) TX. If I'm not mistaken the PCM 9 is only PCM and the modulation is 512 (Z and G ). Are you saying that there is some after market 2.4 modules that will work with the JR PCM9 TX?

JR PCM G series (512)
I am an old single stick flyer and I am using a JR PCM 9 TX. I bought a JR 2.4 module and it will only work with a PPM radio. The Horizon hobby people were less than friendly with my inquiries. They either didn't know about my TX or didn't want to help me. Since this TX is ONLY PCM, is there any way to get it to Transmit on PPM (FM). I know later JR TX's could be switched to all three modes PCM 512, PCM 1024 and PPM (FM). So I quess the circuitry is there or available to do it. John Castronover

RE: new f9 panther at hobby-lobby!
I got my Statmax F9F from China and have flown it twice. Great flyer right out of the box. I did have one problem and it was with the Fan blade. On the second flight it thru a blade. No damage to the A/C. The shop in China that sold it to me said that is a problem with the stock fan. He is sending me a replacement and an upgrade fan for the 64mm unit. Has any one had a simular problem with the Starmax F9F?

RE: Cannon R/C Systems
Skypilot, I have several of Bill Cannons systems. I have known Bill for almost 30 years. I might add that I have never had a Cannon system failure. I talked to Charlie (Bills Wife) a couple of months ago and Bill was not doing too good. The last time I saw him (Toledo) he had some health issues. As far as getting info on his systems your best bet would be to contact him or Charlie, They live in Hendersonville, NV. Bill liked to fix ,repair all his stuff personnally. He closed his shop in the early 2000's I believe there was a person on Sarasota Fl. that he was working with to repair his units. Not sure if that was ever consumated. You might give Tony Stillman a call at Radio South and see if he has any info or works on Bills Stuff. John C Gainesville, Fl.

Thanks Krysta, Is it possible to modify my 8SSAP to also transmit an FM signal? I know some of Futaba's tx's are capible of doing that. I wonder if there is an FM module that can be wired with a switch to choose between PCM and FM. I understand that I am stuck with 512 and can't get 1024 out of it. RE: Ncmh Battery.....is this a normal thing?
No this is not normal. There is a couple of explanations here. You did not say what type of esc, bec you have. If you are using a bec that is programed for Lipo's then it could cut off at around six Volts (2 Cells). This should be OK because your NiMh should cut off at around .9 per cell or 6.3 volts in your case. But check that if you can. Another problem is that if your NiMh battery is old it may have a cell that reversed polarity during high draw. I have had this happen. The battery appears to have charged normal and under load after about a minut one of the cells will give out and reverse polaritycausing the voltage to drop below your bec cut out.. If you can check each cell under load you will find the problem and you can replace just that cell if you are capible of doing that. The best bet is to just replace the battery pack.

RE: Alfa F-86
The servo wires run inside white tubes. These white tubes are only glued at the control end. You should glue them to the servo end also. On the two elevator tubes glue them to the top of the motor mount housing and on the aileron tubes glue them to the wing just before the aileron servo. That way they are secure on both ends. When you look at the aileron wire at the aileron end you will see that they just insert into the aileron control horn you must do something to keep them from coming out. The factory supplies you with s very smal white tube to insert on the wire to act as a keeper. A small drop of instant glue would be to keep it on the wire. Be sure that you don't get any glue on the actual control horn or the aileron will bind. My F-86 has been upgraded to the Hi Max 2025-5300. I use three different Batteries when I fly so I don't have to wait to recharge at the field. I use a TP 2000 Pro lite 3 cell lipo and a Kokam 1500 3 cell and a EVO battery from The U.K. All work just fine. I would not go any larger than your 2200 battery as weight would be a factor. Also you might have a problem with getting it to fit under the Canopy. Good luck let us know how you do.

RE: Alfa F-86
The Alfa F-86 was my first EDF and I have had many enjoyable flights with it. As far as the Kit goes the putting together is pretty straight forward. There are a lot of Blogs on the construction of this Model you should do a search and read them. A couple of things that the instructions are light on are. Glue the servo ends of the control rods to make sure that both ends are secure. If you don't the control wires will bend giving you less control throw. There is only three well four if you count the elevator as two. Make sure that both elevator control rods are glued to the top of the engine mount and the aileron rods are secure just before the aileron servo in the wing. The little pieces of white tubing are to secure the aileron wire to the ailerons, just a touch of glue here. Another thing make sure the control throws are set correctly, this model does not like large control movements. The weakest part of the model is the nose area, the foam is weak and the plastic nose cone is very brittle. It does not like nose first landings. Beef up the nose area if you can. Your model should end up arount 16 to 18 oz. If heavier that this it will de grade performance. If you are using the recommended JET motor be sure that the aluminum fan collete is centered and tight. A small amount of lock tight is provided for this. The Inside of the collete is just a loose fit on the motor shaft take care here as I had one come off and it chewed up my ducting and cut my aileron servo cable. If you follow the instructions here you should be safe just remember to let the lock tight harden. Another promblem associated with a loose collete is the chance of the fan blade wobling. Be sure that it is centered and balanced. The reccomended 1320 battery is probally a bit small. Most of us are using 1500 to 2100 MA batteries. I have enjoyed my F-86 very much , good luck to you let us know how your first EDF flight went.
