RE: questions for you redcat owners
and more parts are involved... and one more thing that sucks about the ez start, is the wiring nightmare that it is (there isn't much, but it's horribly done). That thing is a nightmare in itself, plus it has a weak motor!

RE: questions for you redcat owners
ORIGINAL: Swingline76 my only dislike of redcat rc's is there is no way to hook up easy start like traxxas has. i am not a fan of the roto starts. blew too many OWB's
Your post makes absolutely no sense... The EZ Start is the same starting concept. The ONLY difference is that the electric motor is on the vehicle and not in the hand-held. They obviously both have OWB's. If you had ez start, then you'd be complaining about how expensive their owb is, 20 bucks, yep. Rotos and bumpin is the best way to go [:D]

The SH engine is a better build, quality and performer. Here is a list of small block Vertex engines (AND 2 .15 big blocks)... http://www.chungyang.com.tw/e/e.htm Vertex/Chung Yang also manufactures engines for Duratrax and CEN.

Less load = more horsepower put to the ground. The only downer of 2wd is handling when compared to a 4wd vehicle.

Good lord... If someone is driving one of these in the street, and manages to snag a mailbox, PLEASE catch it on video! I'd try with my rampage, but the mailbox is the one that doesn't stand a chance at surviving. Inanimate objects are ALWAYS in the way.

I've owned both redcat and traxxas... i'll keep my redcats! I spent a ton of dough trying to get a tmaxx to last a tank, after about a grand in upgrades (mostly RPM), I deemed it impossible.

RE: Buying a new Engine
Clip, did your sandstorm come with a .21 or a .18? If it was an .18, you'll need a few parts before you can bolt in the .28. As far as someone saying that an engine has more horsepower, or WILL have horsepower because it has more ports... that's not true! It is all in how the ports are designed Example, the OS V-Spec (a 3 port) has an incredible amount of power compared to the SH .21 8 or even 9 port. This is just advice, I'd steer clear of Axial engines. The price is tempting, and there is a reason why it IS that low. Personally, I'd go for the sport .28 engine that Go Tech has to offer. Amain has the non-pullstart variant, they might be able to get you a pullstart version ;)

RE: Hurricane XTR and Tornado BB Pics (HUGE)
The OS will smoke it on track ;) The only SH's I've seen hangin around with faster cars is if they are heavily ported. $220 SH vs $300 OS, I'll take the $300 OS. Go Tech is the other route to go, quality that SH could only dream of having. But that's just my opinion. Never liked SH, not enough power, not enough speed.

RE: Hurricane XTR and Tornado BB Pics (HUGE)
If SH took the time to refine their porting on the sleeves as they do on some of their cranks, you'd probably see more SH engines at the club and maybe even regional racing level. Take a peek at the angling of their ports, compare it to Italian or even OS's porting designs. Regardless, YES, SH's engines with more ports are more powerful than their fewer ports because of this ;)

RE: Hurricane XTR and Tornado BB Pics (HUGE)
ORIGINAL: bkfamily1 more ports means more performance if all else is equal.
It is all in how the ports are designed. SH found out the hard way that more ports doesn't mean more power. There used to be 9 ports on some of their mills, they ended up splitting sleeves like crazy. Even right now, SH still goes with a ton of ports, but if you notice, their port designs aren't much to brag about.

Is this the "hurricane" but with PBS instead of kingpin suspension? I've seen this platform, so it is a little familiar.

RE: RC Cleaning recommendations...
I dono what you are doing different, all it takes is an air compressor and my vehicles are clean, then again, all I used to run was 1/8 scale after I got sick of 1/10. Regardless, one of the many reason's I no longer run nitro. [8|] I used to run nitro a few years ago, now I'm either gasoline or electric... nitro is too much of a chore and too slow.

RE: RC Cleaning recommendations...
where are you accumulating build up? Assuming your engine and exhaust is sealed the way it should be and has absolutely no leaks, the ONLY build up I could see happening is on your rear shock and the axle behind the exhaust. To be honest, the only buildup i'd ever get, is because I blew a manifold gasket... or if I had a cheap exhaust system that has the manifold connected to the pipe with silicone and zip ties.

RE: RC Cleaning recommendations...
depends on the quality of fuel you are running. on my nitros, they don't have any leaks at all from the exhaust port to the manifold, let alone manifold to pipe. My manifold and tuned pipes are held tight with a silicone "seal" and springs. Whenever I used to run nitro, if any of them had any slack, i'd replace the springs and/or the seal. I can't stand having leaks, whether intake or exhaust! If I suspect anything, I tear it down and seal it. BUT, to answer in depth to your question, I used to use synthetic/caster blend. My pipe almost always aimed downwards and never accumulated on other parts.
