RE: Dodger stadium / RC Field???
Here's is a good link. I wonder if the flier had an AMA card? Not a good thing for the Park Flier membership. This may be harmless and fun for some people, but still hurts the hobby. AMA I think was right to at least try to lessen any damage from this kind of thing to the hobby. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090902&content_id=6744262&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread
I'm very much looking forward to get it built. I plan on putting an O.S. 120 in it. I got like the week before I went to Iraq for six months will make a good spring project. It is glad to see others with the same plane.

RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread
I got a ME-109 a few weeks ago and I'm not sure who manufactured it. Does anyone have an idea who made this and where do I get a manual for it? I included some pictures.

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
Why is the AMA not growing? Maybe it has reached a point of saturation. Nothing hurts an organization to encourage its members to go out and look for members to join. What is the point if you are just trying to add members for the sake of increasing numbers. If you are doing all you can as a club and an organization to get out and show that you are there and that you provide a service to individuals that are interested in the same thing that you are then great. If there is not anyone interested in what you are about that’s ok. It seems that what I see is sometimes a trend to go out and sell the hobby like it is a business or a religion. By looking at some of our collections of aircraft we maybe considered like we are running a business or a religious shrine. I consider it one of my missions as a member of AMA and my club to talk to anyone that is interested in the hobby. I don’t consider it my mission to sell the hobby to people like I’m selling a product. That is what happens when a club becomes business orientated thinking it has a service that it has to sell. You put yourself out there and if people want to join then great. If they don’t then that’s fine too. I couldn’t have a good feeling belonging to an organization that strives to get more members just to increase members to drive up numbers and money. After a while you have to realize that all things considered there are on more people out there. On the other hand each club has to look at the fact that they got all the people in a certain area and the only other people out there are the ones you have chased off. But that is what a club is all about. My experience with my club is that they are the closest field to where I live. Good, bad, or indifferent to the organization I love to build and fly and so long as they don’t bar me from flying I’m there when I can. I’m just sorry work won’t let me be as active in the club as I would like.

RE: AMA Buddy-Box Rule
Never said or try to say that anyone would try to teach or therefore try to let some fly with out use of a buddy-box. It would be fool hardy for a member to try. The instructor should in my mind have control at all times and hold the main controller and the student or intro flier the slave. If course this is all unenforceable, but if you follow the guidelines set up by AMA I can't see where you could go wrong. Of course that is up to the instructor to follow if he wants to apply and let Intro Pilots fly with. I would choose not to. It is a lot better than the old method of passing the transmitter back and forth.

RE: AMA Buddy-Box Rule
Personally I don't see anywhere in the AMA rules that refer to the use of a buddy box other than the Intro Pilot Program. The guidelines there (if followed) seem to me to be for the most part clear and precise. The potential Into Pilot gets as many flights in the period and as long as all the correct paperwork is done and the instructor is qualified. The period is covered by AMA (we hope). It even gives guidance for who's equipment is to be used and such. Which gives the potential pilot the time to learn to fly and discover if he/she really has the interest and ability to be part of the hobby. As far as the use of the Buddy Box outside this for a one time flight for a person that just shows up and wants to try to fly is to me a volition of any members AMA insurance. How many people out there have just picked up a transmitter and started to fly the first time with no instruction? Or even after the first flight?

RE: Aug. MA and AMA thoughts.
I agreed with your comments with regarding the unseen class of sport fliers. I consider to be in that group and don't feel AMA or my club does enough to promote sport fliers. I would show up and participate in more events, but there is always some restrictions to most AMA (Club) events. Big Bird, Military, Jet, Float, and so on. I try to show up for fun flies, but most are not AMA events and my club puts no interest in them, so why should I travel to others. Either no one shows or the weather figures in the lack of interest. My club expects me to show for the one event it has a year (Big Bird) and pay entry fees and participate even if I don't fly or own a plane I could fly. I know I'm going to hit for that comment, but I send a good deal of time away and can't get involved in the planning and execution of events. I feel there is little interest in sport fliers there is more interest in the big money in the hobby and don't take in account there are people out there that just fly because of the enjoyment and fun that could be had.

RE: Love my Tiger!
Nice Tiger I been flying mine for about 6 years now love it. Had to hook up the flaperons for landings, but have put endless flights on mine. To me one of the best 2D or 3rd airplanes out there.

RE: Not worth fixing?
Nothing like a good RC NTSB project. Like said let it sit for a few days or more learn why it all happened and rebuilt it better. I have allways been put off after a bad crash, but after the crash blues subside I pick up the peices and rebuild and go fly again. I allways makes for good conversation at the field when I bring a rebuild bird back out. Most guys just loss the wreakage in the field trash can.

RE: Attaching and finishing canopies
Its has a grove you insert the canopie into. It allows you to do all the extra inside work before you attach the canopie.

RE: On board camera
Nice camera. Just got one and have been playing with it. The only problem is I got the reciever control cable and have not been able to get it to work. Connected it to both the gear and flaps channel, but nothing. The camera won't turn off and on. Have tried several different things and nothing. Has any one else had this problem or what is the seceret I'm sure I'm doing it wrong the directions are not very clear.

RE: Attaching and finishing canopies
I build a frame out of 1/32" ply (easy to cut with sissors). Then fill the gap with tinned epoxy and fit the edge in the gap. I have done the same for curved sections, but is alot harder to do. Takes longer fiting the edge to a curved area when both the mounting surface and canopie are curved, but it can be done.

RE: Pica FW 190 D
Been working on one for the past year. The work has been going slow to say the least. Trying to get it done in the next month. Plane to mount a .91 two stroke in it. I have concerns that the engine will not fit in the cowling without some modification to the front.

RE: How does your club handle this?
Does not sound like the case. Will have to look again. Sounds like to me that if you have not renewed this is just a grace period to renew and not be charged new member fees. As for other benefits (insurance, standing, and valid membership) they expired 31 Dec. I would be interested to see the process if someone files a claim after 31 Dec on an accident and get results. I don't think there is on any other insurance policy (if there is tell me which one so I can get it).

RE: How does your club handle this?
Zero tolerance is the best policy. The club has every right to bar a person from flying if their by-laws spell it out what the requirements for a person to fly. My club only really requires that the flier has a current AMA card. My club seems to be rather lax at times in enforcing the rules on who is allowed and not allowed to fly. This puts your flying field at risk if the club does not own the land outright. I feel for the guy that is new to the hobby who shows up and wants to fly and does not have the proper documentation. I do not feel any thing for the club member that is not responsible enough to pay his AMA or club dues on time and expects to fly along side me. I feel that he has violated by right to use the site (as a due paying member) especially when he is competing for my time to fly or on the same freq as me. I will pay my club dues late this year only because I'm in Iraq and don't get back til spring. I have let the club know about this and will still pay for the full year. AMA was sent in when I received the notice. I consider it the same as a bill to be payed when I get it not when I feel like it. I expect that when I get back I will go fly prior to renewing my club dues (only AMA is really required), but will pay on my first club meeting as I should. To me that is part of being in a club. If your not going to join the club then don't fly at their field on a regular basis regardless of what their requirements are to fly their. You can only be a guest for so long.

RE: Frequency Flag?
Does any one know where one could find out where all of this is in print. It is bound to come up at our club. The reason that it is a rule because AMA says of FCC says it not the answer. Allthought I trust what is said to some degree I'm from Missouri and I like to see it.
