RE: eflite apprentic 15e 1st catastrophe
i would use either white elemers all glue for the wing/fuse (asumbing they are foam) or expoy (walmart/homedepot/lows/towerhobbies/ect) even though it may not look great it will fly again. another tip is if you have some "chunks" taken out of the wing/fuse that are to small to glue take some foam from another source (insulation/packing/ect), then cut a square out of the airplane and replace it with a square from another source. then sand it to look smooth again. (your cutting the messed up portion out, replacing it with a peice that is to big and sanding it into place) sorry if im not explaining this very well http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8844765/tm.htm thats a good link about someone who destroyed a foam airplane and repaired it, the method above is shown (pics included)

RE: Super Tigre RTS for G-51 and GS-45
how rich are you setting them? i have found that each engine needs to be tuned a little differently at the top end, for example my gms.47 likes half a turn, from peaked, because it unloads a lot in the air. i used this method with a os ax55 and got a horrible midrange, found out the ax liked 3-5 clicks richer from peak. if you are more than a half turn from peaked than i will bet that is your problem, their is no need to buy another carb. either deal with it till you feel your engine is broken in, or lean it a little.

RE: GMS 47 = garbage
i run two gms engines (.47 and .32) and tune/fly a tower .46 on a fellow club members' trainer (im his instructor) all of the engines run very well (best .40 sized engine for the money, by far). what i have found is you need to set the hs a little richer then os engines (.25-.5 of a turn from peak) while os engines like 3-5 clicks. the idle isnt hard to adjust, asumbing the engine has some time on it (half a gallon at least) the tower has about .5 of a gallon through it and idles much better than id did but it is far from perfect. the idle also needs adjusting all the time when first breaking in, if you want a prefect transition. the reason being the engines are rather tight when new and idleing doesnt create enough heat to expand the sleeve as much as it needs to, putting a bigger load on the engine...killing it. as the engine breaks in the tight ness starts to go away and now the engine doesnt need as much fuel to idle (because the load on the engine has decreased), so its flooding. my recommendation is to tune the idle as best you can one way to do this is, start engine go to full power, rishen half turn from peak (let it stay their for a 30 seconds or so to let the engine heat up), go the idle let it sit for 15 or so sec, then go to WOT (wide open throttle) asap. if the engine bogs down then its to rich, if it pauses then continues, its to lean. sometimes a overly rich idle will cause the engine to die when it goes to WOT. another way to tune a engine is follow the above advice, if the engine still dies, lean it, if the idleing gets better, lean it more, if it gets worse richen it. use the "if turning the needle this way doesnt work, then turn it the other way, if that doesnt work turn it the other way a lot " idea. then fly the engine (stay close) fly it around half throttle, just at the point where it doesnt load up from the rich idle. give the engine a good gallon of fuel to let it break in, it should run fine. the patience man will get a good running engine. i had a mag 52 that was having this problem. put it on a plane that i could fly blindfolded and fought with it for a day, now it runs fine.

RE: 2-56 vs 4-40
this is really one of those mushy questions in r/c. i think it has more to do with how the rod is supported and how much throw is involved . i will bet, that with enough reinforcement/rod support, you could use a 2-56 on just about anything. however that defets the purpose of not useing 4-40 to begin with (weight gain) in general, if your flying in circles with 90 and below, 2-56 should work fine. if your going crazy with your planes buy better servos and 4-40

ringed isnt a downside, its different. takes longer to break in but will last longer and someone can always make a new ring, cant do that with a new piston. however engines will mostlikely get planted before they wear out.

ok fisrt off take the limiter off the engine, its worthless. then check the muffler and make sure everything is tight (in the muffler not the muffler itsself) that can make the fuel black as already explained. also check your motor mount, if its loose tighten with locktite, if its rather flexable replace it.

all-battery.com has some good, but cheap packs. one cheap way to cycle a battery is ti charge it, then hookup a small electric motor, or a few of those mini christmas lights and see how long it lasted. compare how long it lasts to the new pack and you should know if its good or not. just remember it may take ten cycles for the batterys to really work again.

RE: Golf ball dimples
asumbing the mythbusters data is correct (i believe it is) im betting their are two main reasons that car manufactures dont put dimples on a car. one reason...looks their have been a lot of cars out their that look really weird but perform well, they never sold because they were so strange. reason 2....cost it would cost a lot to dimple a car, parts would have to be moved, new machines to make the dimples, some space would be lost, ect. the manufactures dont care how much we have to pay for gas, if the retail price of the car increased by a few grand that may be enough to scare people away from the design. and thats just the main reasons, how much fun would it be to clean a car with dimples? or what happens when it rains and the dimples are full of water or snow or leaves or mold, ect? how fragail would the design be? the argument, if it worked so well we would all have dimples on our car, is not valid. their is a lot more to it.

RE: two questions??????
check your engine mount, those tower trainers are clamp mounted and it may have come loose and is shifting in flight. if your plane can all of a sudden roll faster, that will have little to do with the stab (which looks fine btw), unless the stab is shifting in flight (can you move it around? does it feel different than before). im guessing that your engine is flopping around so when you turn right the engine shifts right thus pulling your plane to the right more than usual.....right? [:D][8D] or maybe your battery is loose and shifting around in the fuse, or your wing is shifting. did the plane fly fine for a little while then all of a sudden start acting up? or were you fighting it the instant it took off?

whats the point of insureing a $500 plane, if you crash you will only (most of the time) loose the airframe and possibly a servo or two. worse case senario and the plane flies away (rare), your out 500 bucks. now if you have a 50cc + we better hope that you know how to fly, if you dont and you crash it, its your fault for biteing more than you can chew. if it was a mechanical failure then you should have bought better equiptment. (if you bought better equiptment.....well.....) i dont mean to be a jerk, but i find this to be one of those thing for the pilot to dump the blame on when he/she gets reckless. a long story short, why waste your time getting insurance, i will garentee that it will be better for you, without insurance, in the long run.

RE: Super Tigre prices appear to be heading up
ORIGINAL: Alex7403 When flying an airplane there are so many things that can go wrong so I try to minimize it with a reliable engine that doesn’t dead stick every 3 out of 4 flights. There are people who like to tweak their engines to peak performance or as a challenge and that is fine, I see it all the time with ST’s and evolutions, its running well on the ground and once in the air dead stick. Personally I’m building kits so it makes the value of an airplane even higher so I wouldn’t save $50 to take the chance of loosing the whole airplane. That is my reasoning staying with OS’s and looking at Thunder tigers and tower hobbies. And now those “cheap engines are not so cheap anymore.
you obvioulsly havnt tried anything else besides os. gms, magnum, st, ect will run as good IF NOT BETTER than a os engine for half the price. i have a ax55 that dies on me way more often than my gms .47 which is half the price, i almost lost a plane more than once with the ax55 on it, the gms never dies. does that mean the ax55 is a hunk of junk and will never run right????? no it doesnt, i got the ax55 running just fine after i perfectly tuned it (tunes diff than any of my other engines), and replaced the glowplug if the engine isnt working 90% of the time its the opperators fault (tank setup/glowplug/fuel/ect/ect/ect)

RE: jump to giant scale
i would buy a .40 sized plane before you would even think about going bigger and here are the reasons. landing a electric and landing a .40 are much much different, electrics for the most part need little if any approch, just cut the throttle and your down in 20 or 30 yards. some 40 sized planes need at least a football field worth of approch, and will take that long to loose 50 feet worth of altitude. they also have a 20-50+ yard roll out, something electrics have little of. now take that into a 37% plane, your talking a quarter mile worth of an approch, 100 yards+ worth of rollout, ect ect ect its a big big jump also in the air big planes cannot manuver like little electrics they require tons of space. something that is very weird if you have only flown electrics that can turn on a dime. i started off with small electrics and went to .40 sized planes. it was a jump but it was doable. my friend let me fly his 100cc yak and thats a whole nother ball game i wouldnt try the electric to 100cc any day

RE: NiCad batteries/starter issue
if you want, build a starter pack out of these http://www.all-battery.com/3-2v2000mahlifepo4rechargeablebattery.aspx they can discharge at an insane rate which will give your starter some serious power. and they can be over discharged and it wont damage them the most common problem with starters is not the starter at all, its the battery most small 4.5-7ah lead acid battery's have no chance of delivering the amount of current needed to turn over large engines 90+ so most people buy a bigger starter and are confused when that wont/ or will hardly start their engines. so find a battery with a decent C or amp rating and get those battery's and never look back
