It's a shame Vegas doesn't put on any Big Bird type events. A lot of the modelers wives enjoyed the QSAA events for the Vegas scene.

Dans' message was posted over seven years ago. I don't think QSAA exists anymore. They haven't had the QSAA fly-in for at least eight years.

Yes, thanks. I'm trying to get a prop nut similar to a Harry Higley type. Higley only has them in 10x1 and 10x1.25 and won't return phone calls.

Does anyone know the pitch on the crank threads on the Laser 180? The web site says the threads are M10. Is the pitch 1, 1.25 or 1.5? Thanks, Jay

RE: Club Laser?
The 120 is going into a Proctor Jenny. It's about the same hight as the 80 and will fit in the Jenny. The 100 is too tall. The 80 would be good at a lower elevation but I fly at 7,000 ft. so the 120 should be a good fit. Thanks for the info.

RE: Club Laser?
12x8 prop unless you're at a high elevation, above 3,000 or 4,000 ft. then I'd use a 13x6. OS F works good.

Yes it should. A Laser 70 flies the Proctor Jenny which weighs 11 to 13 lbs.

Yes. Used flaps with a touch of elevator down trim mix. Camera man called in sick. I'll get some pics next time up.

RE: Let’s discuss facts about stall-spin
Finally got around to making some changes to the funny looking "Gee Bee". I added close to three pounds of weight to the nose, increased the area of the upper fin 70% and the area of the rudder 30%. I flew it yesterday and it flew like a trainer. No stall tendencies. I think being tail heavy was letting it stall at a higher speed. Thanks for all the help. Jay

I'm going to enlarge the fin and rudder as well as move the C.G. forward before the next flight. I'll report back. Thanks for the help.

RE: Let’s discuss facts about stall-spin
Thanks for all the input. I'm going to add a little nose weight and give it another try. I think that's the safest next move. I did incorporate as much wash out as I could but the wing tip shape doesn't lend itself to much wash out. I feel the horizonal stabilizer has sufficient area and has a two degree positive angle of attack. The vertical fin is another story. There's not much of it. Could that contribute to the stalling? The wing has flaps but with the problems I just wanted to get it down and didn't engage them. I built the fuselage super light in an attempt to lower the wing loading from that of the Y/A Spit. One more question. The fuselage is very long. Could the excessive distance from the C.G. to the tail area be causing problems.

RE: Let’s discuss facts about stall-spin
Here is what it looks like and here is what happened on maiden. Took off and immediately seemed tail heavy. Several clicks of down elevator leveled it out. Flew several circuits of left turn pattern. Decreased throttle for final. Right wing tip stall into a steep spin. Recovered, several more circuits at 3/4 throttle. Decreased throttle for final. Same thing. Recovered. Third try, kept up speed on final and landed. The wing is a Yellow Spitfire. About 90". Engine is a Taurus 62. Weight is 21 lbs. Yellow recomends C/G 5.5" back from root of wing leading edge for their Spit which this obivously isn't. I balanced it at 5.25". Without recomending a complete redesign, can anyone offer an opinion of whether it's nose heavy or tail heavy? It just seems nose heavy when balancing but seemed tail heavy on take off. It sure felt nose heavy when that spinning prop headed to Mother Earth. Please try to address the C/G issue. If that doesn't help on the second flight I'll work on the redesign issue. Thanks, Jay

RE: NIEUPORT 11-C WWI Triplane
I purchased the BUSA Nieuport 17 kit along with Cleveland's plans and three view drawing off the internet. The lower wing BUSA ribs from the 17 are the ribs for the other two wings with no sweep back and no diehedral. The fuselage is the same as the 17. Best flying airplane I own.
