RE: toys-r-us sea shadow
Taken the sea shadow out for spin. I don't like that it always runs forward. You only have control of right and left and up and down. It's still pretty kewl though. One good point is that the range is really far. I didn't measure it, but I sure I was out aleast 20 feet and down about 3 or 4 and still had total control. Now it's time to tear it down and check out the electronics. Might try and replace the receiver to 3 channel so I can control the speed. My vote is for 39 bucks it's worth it. jjp

I went and bought one just to try it out. Haven't had the chance yet, but it looks cool for 39.00. I'll try and post a pick. It's in my gallery if you want to look. Can't figure out how to post pic. jjp [image]http://www.rcuniverse.com/gallery/galleryItem.cfm?itemID=136990&dummy=5122.690944348842&opener=/gallery/galleryCat.cfm%3FmemberID%3D94280[/image]

It's the same gyro that came with my kit. It's ok for hovering and some basic flying , which is all I do. You will have to control the tail a bit more, because it's not head holding, but it works fairly well. I have since upgraded to a jr 500t, world of difference.

I need to know if the 4 screws that hold the black peice in for the dive prop will let water into the electronics. I just got my sub back from nikko and they fixed it, I use this term loosely, they just needed to give me the right TX since they sent me the wrong one in the first place and said I needed to send the whole sub in to get it fixed. It looks as if they torn the sub down and put it back together. I found small cracks around the 4 screws on the bottom of the sub that hold part of the dive assembly and only one of the screws gets tight. They put some kind of sealant all around them, I think to get them to hold. I'm going to call them Monday and insist they replace the bottom Hull, which is mostly the whole sub. Thanks, jjp

RE: nikko seawolf
I received my new/ or should I say used remote from Nikko today. The reason I say used is because the back is all scraped up. I'm thinking they must refurbish them. I think the remote may be bad and I wanted some opinions. When I put all the batteries in and turn it on both the f/r motor and submerge motor runs. The steering doesn't work at all. When I move the f/r stick the prop does change directions, but it's backwards. When I move the steering stick the submerge motor spins. When I press the submerge button both motors spin.I have no idea if the sub was in working order when I got it, but when I took it apart it appears brand new inside. I was going to see if Nikko would send me a replacement remote to see if maybe I got a bad remote. What do you think? I guess someone could have cleaned the guts at one time, but if it did get water in it I would think I would see some type of corrosion. I know the worst case is the sub is just dead, but even if it did get wet I can't see everything working so weird. I could be wrong though. Thanks, jjp

RE: nikko seawolf
oceanfox, I just bought a Ocean Explorer from ebay with no controller. You can order a controller from Nikko America for $34.00. You'll need to know what the feq. is, mine has a sticker on the top 27.009 band 3, From what I understand they have the other parts too, but I only needed the controller. I've taken the advice from here and tore mine down to see everything inside, I was wonderfully supprised when I opened it up and it looks brand new. All the rubber seals are soft, no cracks, doesn't look like a drop of water has ever even touched the inside. i have a guestion for everyone, the front seal, behind the nose cone, mine looks new, but it's not a real tight fit, it seems to seal correctly, but I want to make sure how tight it should be before I take the first run. Another thing I have done with my wally subs is tie a fishing bobber to the sub, it doesn't look the best, but I can take my wally sub down under in the lake and know were it is. Plus If the little guy decides not to surface I can retreive it. It's kind of cool when I take it down and and bring it up 5 -10 feet away, not knowing excatly where it's coming up. jjp

RE: Walmart Submarine = Cool ! Part II
Hey Crunchyfrog, It worked. I gain control of the seawolf again. I took it for a spin in the pool and was able to get it down to 3 feet at approx. 15 feet away. On a side note the foward/reverse motor bit the dust. I figured it was going sometime ago when it got water in it. Has anyone been able to find replacement motors? I do have a few slightly larger motors that I hooked up and they work, I'm thinking of going direct drive for the forward/reverse prop, but I have to figure out a new water tight holder. On another side note I won a Nikko Ocean Explorer on ebay and was able to obtain a controller from Nikko for 34 bucks. Total cost 64 bucks. Should be a nice project to mess around with.

RE: Walmart Submarine = Cool ! Part II
ORIGINAL: CrunchyFrog >Regarding your Seawolf with distance problems, I had a problem like that on my scratchbuilt sub (cobbled together from two r/c car boards). Marking the coil position where I started, I tuned the coil--carefully, maybe 1/4 turn at a time--checking reception range at each interval, and suddenly my hard-of-hearing sub was HOH no more. The top of a coil is often covered by grease, but under the top covering on a coil there's typically a slot for a small flat screwdriver. Did it again tonight...I think. I'm no expert...but my 27MHz board (I have a 49MHz and a 27 onboard) had not been able to pick up signal, even on fresh transmitter batteries, from more than a few inches. I kind of played with the 27MHz receiver coil until it responded to a 27MHz transmitter. Seems to be holding. Just one more thing...I've heard it recommended that a nonferrous tool is best, though personally I've always just used a metal screwdriver for lack of having something better. During the adjustment, whenever I left my metal pliers next to the coil, I never got a response. Sometimes moving the pliers out of the area made the difference.
Do you mean inside the black box in the sub, there is a screw I can turn to get better range, Sorry I'm just a bit confused. I have no problem opening up the box. Have done it to seal it up, but can also seal it up again if I have to. Thanks, jjp

RE: Walmart Submarine = Cool ! Part II
Well I got to take the new Gator out for a spin yesterday. The rudder steering is much nicer, thought diving you also go foward. I like that you can use rechargables without it being to heavy. I got like 45 minutes on a set of 1900 energizers AA. I went to the bottom of the 4' pool just a few times and no lose of signal and if you just stop all commands it floats back to the top. My old seawolf still works but I have lost all distance, I have to be less then a foot away to get it to work, still trying to figure that out. Going to take it apart today and check for leakage and seal everything up. Since I bought 2 new ones I'm going to try and put the guts from one into the seawolf because I like the style better. I'll have to reduce the size of the rudder, but it should work OK. Will post if I get it work. jjp

If you call 1-800-walmart, they will give you all the Wal-marts that have the subs in stock around your zip code. You will need the item and UPC numbers that Crunchyfrog was so helpful and supplied. I got 2 last night, one shark and one gator. There were 89 subs avalible around my zip, but unlucky as I was the closet was 100 miles, but I like to drive so no big deal. I have to say the Walmart customer rep was very helpful and very nice. Item no. 13000 (do you think Gator might be Item 13001?) UPC info : at top of bars 13000 at the bottom of the bar (at left) 6 (at middle) 02608 13200 (at right) 0

Thank Glvincent, that is what I was thinking of doing. I have a jr 4 channel radio and a couple of 6 channel receivers. I was going to just try and rewire the whole sub. I'm looking for another wally sub, but they are hard to find in the stores and I just can't get myself to pay 30 + dollars for a 20 dollar toy. Thanks, jjp

Well it looks like my wally sub bit the dust. Seawolf. I just can't get any distance on the remote. If I hold right on the sub it works. I've done both the antenna mods but nothing. I think water got into the control board of the sub. Of course I can't find any of the new ones here in PA. Going to start looking on ebay, they just want to much. It's been a good run with the Seawolf. Unless someone comes up with a way to convert the electronic with aftermarket stuff, hint hinit. Enjoy. jjp

RE: help with 6102 and g500t setup
Here are my set numbers with jr 500t and 6102. This is for a mx400 and Hawk pro. I have the top right switch as on and off. back is on. With a jr radio when you add to the + it increases the gain hold. Most people will tell you these jr gyro are a bit touchy to get set up, but once you figure it out they hold great. Mines rock solid in all moves. Get it set up as close as possible mechanically. They also don't like any vibration. Any vibration will case them to drift. MX400 Both the radio and gyro switches are reversed. Travel ADJ screen Gear + 32 - 38 Subtrim Rudd L 2 Hawk Pro Travel ADJ screen Gear +72 -12 Rudd L1 For some reason I can get the + up to 72 on the hawk, I think it's because it's a larger digital servo, large arm, etc. The key is to keep increasing the gear channel until you get wagging, then back off some. I hope this helps some. jjp

Sorry for creating another post on this sub, but the other one is so huge I thought I wouldn't get an answer. Does anyone know were to get the motors that fit. I pulled mine apart yesterday cause the main motor wasn't working and it's all rusted. Guess the seels didn't hold to well last year. I did manage to clean things up and get it running again. Are they hard to replace. They have that board soldered to the end. I'm Ok at soldering so that doesn't bother me. Just not sure how it's soldered on. Part number for motor and resisiters would be great if anyone has them. Thanks, jjp
