RE: Took the Girls to the Field...
I take my 13 yr old daughter and one or more of her friends every couple of months to my flying field with rockets. Reminds me, I am about due again! We've lost several of the tiny 1/2A size rockets... but the bigger ones usually come back to us quite well. My five year son old just doesn't like the whooshh sound of the rockets... so he won't go with us. He has some sensory integration issues so I don't push it.

RE: Futaba 12FG Press Release Announcement
Gotta say I agree with that sentiment. With my Polk's Tracker III, for $200 I was able to fly on any of the 72MHz channels... both transmitter and receiver were synthesized. Also can fly anything with a standard FM receiver in it regardless of shift, with 100 model memory on the transmitter. With the mass exodus to 2.4GHz... that should free up some more receivers that I can get cheap from fellow club members who are upgrading... I should be good with my Polk's for a long time to come. RE: Step by Step Pro-Pex Runway
How does this surface (or at least your old GeoTex) compare to flying off very short grass fields... and how durable? Will it withstand prop-strikes, etc? Thanks, Jason

RE: Field/Runway Mowing Fix
Mowing seems to be the bane of our existence... there are some guys in the club that 'just do it' when it needs to be done... although they give up a lot of their flying time to do it... and there are those in the club insisting that everyone takes their turn. We had one guy last year offering to do it every week, and all he wanted in return was a few bucks for gas because he drives 75 miles round trip to do it. Our club owns the tractors and keeps up the maintenance on them with club funds... and I couldn't see why we couldn't just pay this guy a few bucks for gas so the rest of the members didn't have to worry about it anymore. Others didn't like that idea... and started talking about mowing 'assessments' members would have to pay up front and forfeit if they didn't take their turn... or worse... upping dues so we could afford a professional service! What is the big deal here... you have some dedicated members that will to do a job that EVERYONE wants done... why not give them a few perks for it? Or at least make sure it doesn't COST THEM to provide you that service?

RE: Stolen Planes
Jim... if you email me (webmaster@fremontflyers.com) an electronic copy of your flyer, I will put it up on our website... and let our club know to look out for your stuff... we are just down the road in New Hampshire. I can forward it to some of the other clubs down here as well. Jason

RE: NEED PICTURES OF YOUR RC CLUB LOGOS<<<<<<
Here is ours... [image]http://www.fremontflyers.com/wsimages/fremontflyerslogo.bmp[/image] Out club had a 'design' contest several years ago giving everyone a chance to design a club patch... we sent the winning design to a patch company and got them made up for the entire club, and I made it our logo on our website. RE: Worst Thing You've Ever Crashed?
That used to be a very LARGE plane... those splinters account for over 4 feet of fuselage plus tail and engine nacelle. If you click t the link... you can also see the plane BEFORE it was smashed up. The plane hit so hard, not only did it crush 4 feet of fuse... it also cracked the case on the OS 40FP on the nacelle... I am just glad I had swapped out the brand new OS 61FX I had on it originally!

RE: Worst Thing You've Ever Crashed?
How about having someone ELSE crash your plane on its maiden... [image]http://www.fremontflyers.com/images/DSCN0010_thumb.JPG[/image] I knew my flying skills weren't up to snuff back when I finished my Arrow from RCM Plans... I always let someone more experienced maiden a plane for me back then. After this one... I decided to start maidening my own planes... I couldn't do much worse than this. RE: Starting New Shop..
Keep a good stock of the 'essentials' for building/repair that people can't wait for... a good selection of coverings, wood, glue and miscellaneous hardware. I'll drive an hour to a hobby shop if I know they have a roll of that transparent blue (insert your color here) Monokote I just ran out of, or some aileron stock to repair a wing, etc... I really want to finish/repair this plane before the weekend, and I don't want to wait a week for mail order. I have been told by my LHS that they make their money on all the little incidentals... and barely anything on bigger ticket items like ARFs etc. So, as long as they have what I need... I buy all my little stuff from them.

RE: Gonna have an RC buddy
rc-sport: My son was 10 weeks early as well... 3 1/2 pounds when he was born. He is 4 yrs old now and has been on my simulator for the past year... He finds it very funny when he crashes... especially into trees. It makes me worry a bit when he asks to play on the simulator... he doesn't ask to 'fly planes' he asks to 'crash planes'. I think I may wait a bit longer before trying the real thing with him, I am worried he will go hunting trees with my 1/3 scale Spacewalker! Jason

RE: Plans or kit
Try checking around [link=http://www.balsabusters.com]Balsa Busters[/link]. This is a club in Western PA. Jim Florio is still a member there, I believe... and it was either his or his dad's design. I built a Florio Flyer 40 back when I was a kid that I got at the local store in DuBois, PA. Loved that plane... but everyone down there has Nifty 50s. You will see pictures on their website, so someone there has gotta have plans, or maybe if you are lucky... access to a kit. Jason

RE: A great day mostly wasted
I live only a single mile from my flying field. Heck, sometimes I run back to the house to pick up stuff for the other flyers who live the 20-40 miles away... packing tape and CA for repairs, fishing rod to pull one out of the pond, camera to take pictures of new planes at the field, etc. I guess I am one of the lucky ones!

RE: US 35cc - Carb continually going rich... need advice
Thanks for the advice...and yes, that prop is getting LOUD. I don't think I have the clearance for a 20 inch prop... I will start looking for a 3-blade... good thing I have a good handle on this plane... bumping a 3-blade into the ground could get expensive! As for the airflow issue... that is DEFINATELY an issue with the cowling on... the cowling wouldn't fit around the carb... so I cut a hole out for the carb so it got directly exposed (makes it easy to choke with my thumb, though). I taped a dome over that carb with only an opening in the back so the air wasn't getting forced down the carb... and that helped a lot... but still have the problem with it getting richer on subsequent flights... with or without the cowling.

US 35cc - Carb continually going rich... need advice
I have a US Engines 35cc on my Dynaflight Super Decathlon. I bought the engine used off eBay about 6 months before I finished the plane... so other than mounting it to a stand and running it for 1 minute just to make sure it would start when I bought it... I didn't really get to run it much until lately. The engine seems to run well... my first flight will be great... into the second one it will start going rich on me. I will lean it out before the next flight (I have gotten to the point that I just leave the cowling off now because I am doing so much adjusting)... and the 3rd flight will be good... but it starts to go rich again on the next flight. The needle is not moving while running... it is always in the spot I left it after last adjusting. I was told this may be a sign of the engine still breaking in. Could that be the case? The seller didn't specify how much it has been used, just that it was used. I have about a gallon of gas through it now myself. Any help would be appreciated. I am afraid of continually leaning it out... it already throws my prop faster than I thought it would... I was expecting 7K+ RPM at the top... I am getting just under 9K with an 18x10 Master Airscrew Classic Series prop. As you may have guessed... this is my first gasser. So I just am not sure what to expect here. Thanks, Jason

RE: Think this might be a scam?
Sounds like a scam... it works like this... They offer you a good chunk of cash... but because they are (you choose: disabled, sick, out of the country) they will have to get their 'agent' to pick it up. Of course they have to pay for the agent's cost... so they ask to send you A LOT of extra money so you can pay the agent for them... and of course, you can keep te extra cash if they overpay. They send what looks like a cashier's check... you take it to the bank and cash it... and then give a chunk of that cash to the 'agent' (either directly, or via mailed money order, etc). Most of the time you don't meet anyone directly... and a lot of the time your stuff isn't even picked up. But in about 2 weeks you find that the 'cashier's check' wasn't really a cashier's check... and it bounced... and know you owe your bank the FULL amount of that check... and you already gave a chunk of it to the 'agent'... so you are screwed. That was the story my inlaws got when someone offered to pay over full asking price for their old car advertised on local boards in New Hampshire but wanted to send several thousand extra to pay their 'agent' for picking up the car. They thought it was funny when someone supposedly in Florida would want to pay effectively 3 times what the car was worth including the 'agent fee' when they could just find one closer to Florida. They asked the police and were told it was a common scam going around. So... something sounds FUNNY here... but you will most likely not be the one laughing in the end if you try to deal with guy.

Interesting... that list posted included Cocaine as a banned substance for causing cancer... how are all of those beautiful people in Hollywood supposed to get through their hectic lives if they start taking away the blow? On the other hand... someone with moxie could sue their drug dealer for big bucks for selling a product without the state-required warning label!

Piper_Chuck, Funniest thing I have seen yet here on RCU! Made it funnier because I know and fly with Roby... and we have had the grill at the field at least three times in the past 2 months. Only thing that would have made it funnier is if someone had asked if maple syrup made a good grilling sauce! Would have tied the whole thread up into one neat little package. Jason
