RE: 12v power supply question
True for that particular power supply, however, most that you can get at places like the ones sold by Batteries America ( http://www.batteriesamerica.com/power_supplies.htm) are switching supplies and can be connected to 110 or 220. And the one similar to the one pictured above does not require any changes, just plug it into which ever you use. I have two of these units that I have used in the USA and in the Middle East. They work just fine and provide plenty of current for my needs. John

RE: Trouble with Hi-Tec Optic 6 Sport 2.4 Radio.....>>>
JIMF14D, sounds like he bought the basic system as I did. TX, 6 channel RX and nothing else. The TX comes with a 7.2 V pack, but there is no RX battery. I think he may have one servo that is stalled or other wise sucking a lot of juice. I run 5 servos on mine all the time with no problem (running of the ESC). Not sure what the current drain is on the Futaba 3003s. John

RE: Trouble with Hi-Tec Optic 6 Sport 2.4 Radio.....>>>
Just as a quick check, try to disconnect your aileron servos one at a time and try it. The beeping may well be telemetry telling you the receiver battery is low, indicating a high current drain from at least one of your servos. I would try a higher capacity rx pack if they do the same with just one aileron servo attached. And as mentioned in an earlier post, if you can get an amp meter, check the current. Bet you it is very high with the "wing on" John

RE: Electric power f/60 size classic pattern planes
I would suggest that you check with the Senior Pattern Association. They are running the old pattern planes with 90 4 strokes and running some rather large props. They are however running conventional gear, so the prop clearance may be somewhat better. http://www.seniorpattern.com/ John

RE: Silk application
It has been a lot of years since I used silk and dope, but as I remember it, we got it wet with water, layed it over the frame work, used dope to stick it down around the edges and when the water dried, it shrank up nice and tight, we never used heat to shrink it, it was not needed. Back in the 60s, we even mixed Amboid glue with the Aero Gloss clear dope for the stick it down coat. Caused it to stick very well. John

I would go for the Hitec Aurora 9 if you can afford it. I have flown both the Eclipse 7 and Prism 7 &7X for years. When I return to the states, I am going to convert the Eclipse 7 to 2.4. I have never lost an airplane to a Hitec radio. Fumble thumbs maybe, but never to the radio. John

RE: Optic 6 2.4 Sport question
Turned out that when my tx glitched last week, it dumped all the programing in it, including the low battery voltage setting. It had gone from the 4/5 cell battery to the custom and was set for 6.5 volts. Once I reset that, all worked fine. Now all I need to do is get confidence in the transmitter before I will use it again. Might just send it back for service since I am moving back to the USA in May. Thanks for the ideas guys, I appreciate it. John

Most batteries charge well at 1C or in your case, 1.2A or 1200ma. I charge everything at that rate and have not damaged anything yet. I charge my 3350 3S cells at the field in about an hour at 1C. And since I carry 2 of them, I don't have to spend a lot of time waiting. JOhn

I would have thought so too, but it continues. And this has never happened before. I noted that I had a proper bind as everything else seems to work OK. But the beeping just keeps on going. That, I do not think is normal. Could be have something to do with the telemetry stuff (which I have never gotten into)? John

Optic 6 2.4 Sport question
My Optic 6 2.4 tx appears normal when I turn it on, however, when the rx is turned on and I bind it to the tx, when the power is cycled off on both and they they are turned back on, the tx will make a series of 3 short beeps with and intervening silence. It seems to be working, but I would really like to know what this is indicating. Powering off the rx and leaving the tx on stops the beeps. Is it an indication of a rx problem, thought it did it on 3 different rx. Any help would be appreciated. I am returning to the US in May, and will hand carry it back if it must be returned for repair. John R Lingrel

RE: Another ARF bashing thread?...Not really
The big difference between the older die cut kits and the newer laser cut ones are the lack of the smash cuts. Building a laser cut kit generally makes a straighter airplane. My preference, laser cut. I have had 2 ARFs, and they are the last that I will own. They flew well, but did not have the pride of being built by me. John

RE: Hobbico Quick Field DC Charger MKII > Hobbico 12 Volt Charger
If that wall charger puts out a pulsating DC, I would not do it. There are several threads on here that show how to make a 12VDC supply from an old PC power supply. Inexpensive and probably a lot safer. John

Look at post # 39 in this thread. There is a map to it. Where do you live in AD? Might be able to give you directions, also, in one of the posts on this thread, there are GPS coordinates to the field. I fly there most week ends, not the greatest, but it is an intersection, so we have two directions to take off and land. John

RE: Shop Build
In 1995, I built a 10X16 shop in my back yard in Rio Rancho, NM. I actually picked up a 16 foot work bench from Intel and put it on the slab before the shed was built. I put in 25A electrical service with a breaker box in the shed. Before I could insulate or put up dry wall, I was transferred to Austin, TX. In about 6 months, I am going to retire to the shed, finish the interior and start working on the 35+ kits I have accumulated over the years for retirement, can't wait. Since I am in Abu Dhabi, I can't send pictures right now, but will when I get there. Plans are to put in heat and air conditioning, insulation and drywall, run the TV cable out from the house and have wireless internet available. Should only have to go to the house for dinner. Heaven!!! John
