RE: Help - Is this BL motor good or ?
You have determined that the motor runs well on the T-28, so the ESC is now in question. I assume the power requirement of both motors are close. Next step is to plug the T-28 motor to the questionable ESC, using the same battery, and see if the T-28 motor behaves in the same way. If it does, the ESC is toast. The ESC should work well with inrunners and outrunners. However, it must be an ESC for brushless motors (3-leads) and the rating should be appropriate for the motor being used. The brushless motor should run no matter how the cables are plugged in. If it runs backwards, then switch two of the leads and it will be OK. Let us know what happens. Good luck!

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club
Well, the unexpected happened. I was showing off doing some HiRate rolls and spins and the right servo got stuck all of a sudden. The Diamante spunned all the way to the ground as I watched, not being able to do anything about it. Surprisingly, only the fuselage and cowl were damaged beyond repair. Also, I ended up with a bent shaft on my Eflite Power 32 motor. I'm back on E-bay looking for good deals on a replacement.

RE: parkzone BF 109 touchdown issues
Sounds like you are landing on a grass field. You may want to bring it in at a higher speed. Assuming you can taxi around without it nosing over, then add some up elevator when it lands and give it a little throttle as when taxing it around.

RE: Trojan T-28 maiden flight!!
It sounds like your Center of Gravity (CG) is off. Too tail heavy. Check it out according to recommended position. You may have to move the battery around or add weight to the nose. The elevator should be in neutral position (not up, not down) to start with.

RE: E-Flite DHC-2 Beaver Anybody putting one together???
The cowl attachment and properly adjusting the hidden flap servos were the only difficulties I encountered. I also had to ad extra extenders when mounting the Power 32 so it would properly clear the cowl. Everything else went well and as described in the manual. I did learn that you need to apply sufficent power on take off while keeping the tail down to keep the Beaver straight. Mine did a ground roll on a windy day and there was damage to the nose, cowl and firewall. It took me a couple of evenings, but I got it fixed and looks like new. I now apply full power and it just takes off easily and straight. It really looks good in the air. Just like the real one! I usually fly it last, after all my attempts at 3D maneuvers with my other planes. Very relaxing.

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club
I experienced some aileron flutter while flying full throttle. I noticed that the wing was not fitting tight enough against the fuselage. I cut out and glued thin pieces of balsa wood on the edge of the wing fitting against the fuselage. This created a tight fit when attaching the wings and I'm no longer experiencing aileron flutter, even when flying at higher speeds. Check your wings and see if you experience the same problem.

RE: How do i learn to hover.
Let me preface my comments by stating that I'm still learning 3D maneuvers. I can hover my 3D planes, but only for about 10 - 15 seconds. My best 3D planes are the Eflite Eratix and the Eflite Mini Showtime. Here is what I've learned so far: Before you go into 3D maneuvers you have to make sure of the following: Your plane must be a proven 3D plane Make sure you look at videos of these planes to satisfy this requirement Your plane must be properly trimmed Lots of literature on this subject on RCUniverse and other Internet sources Your plane must be properly balanced That is CG most be such that the plane is tail heavy. I keep adjusting the CG until my planes can descend slowly, flying level (horizontally no nose dives), with throttle off also, requiring very little (almost none) down elevator when flying inverted It will be very difficult for anyone to hover a plane without meeting the above requirements. Here are the maneuvers you need to properly execute before you should try hovering a plane: Elevator Go up high and make your plane descend horizontally with full up elevator and slight throttle adjustment with no wing rocking. Harrier Go into a harrier after performing an elevator by increase throttle, making the plane fly forward with its nose up with no wing rocking. You should be able to do a harrier up and down the field without loosing control of the plane. Once you master the Harrier, you can then advance the throttle so that the plane goes vertically. Do so in such a way that the plane continues to climb slowly in vertical position without loosing control. Continue to practice this maneuver and each time reduce the throttle a little so the plane continues climbing, but more slowly. Finally, reduce the throttle until the plane stops climbing. From then on, it takes lots of practice to anticipate your plane's moves so you can counteract with the proper control inputs and short bursts of power to keep that nose up and vertically. The main thing about 3D maneuvers is that you will be learning something new each time. No more boring flights with just loops and rolls. Good Luck!

Did you switch some of the leads on the motor? Try that. Also, check the balance on the prop. If it is still in balance, you can still use it.

RE: E-Flite DHC-2 Beaver Anybody putting one together???
Well, the maiden flight went perfectly. I was very lucky to have great weather and less than 5 mph winds. The only trimming was a couple of right-airleron clicks and it flew straight. I didn't use the flaps and the landings couldn't have been better. I didn't have a lot of time, so I only flew it a couple of times using 4-cell, 2650 mah packs for 8-minute flight each. I'll check how much of the charge was used during each flight to get a better idea of flight times in the future. Overall, I'm very pleased with looks and performance.

RE: E-Flite DHC-2 Beaver Anybody putting one together???
I finally completed it! The maiden flight is planned for today and I hope everything goes well. I have built several E-flite ARF's and this has to be the most difficult and time consuming so far. A couple of parts were missing, there was some sanding needed, holes for the wooden pegs on the wing did not match and had to be redrilled a little, mounting of the cowl was probably the worst part of it, with aligning the flap servos being a close second since it took me quite a few tries. However.... at the end..... it is all worth it! The Beaver looks great and I hope to enjoy it for a long time (I'm plan to be really careful with it).

RE: E-Flite DHC-2 Beaver Anybody putting one together???
I am in the process of building the Beaver. Not as easy as the other E-flite ARF's. That cowl is nearly impossible, especially with the motor piece. I've decided to just mount the cowl using four small screws on the outside to hold it in place. I want to be able to remove it easily in the future and this is my approach. Next, I hear the mounting of the flap servos is also not fun at all. That is, trying to adjust them to neutral position with the servos hidden inside the wings. Also, I have an Eflite Power 32, but looks like I'm going to have to use much larger spacers for the motor to clear the cowl. That will probably affect the CG, so will most likely have to ad weight to the tail so it's not so nose heavy. Any help on this? I might be better off purchasing a Power 25 since it's lighter and longer than the 32. I have an Ultra Stick 25e with a Power 25 and it's very powerful/fast when I plug in a 4 cell battery. I assume it will be the same with the Beaver. Any help/suggestions on set up and uneventful maiden flight will be appreciatedf.

RE: E Flite Eratix 3D 25e ARF Owners Club
Eflite just announced price reductions on most of their airplanes. The Eratix went from $179 to $169, but other reductions were even better. Like the Mini Ultra Stick is back down to $109. The Beaver went from $229 to $189. This is what happens when sales drop because customers reject new prices they start buying other products.

I just got an email from Eflite stating that the Eratix will again be available by December of this year. They didn't mention if this was a "new" Eratix or the same old one. However, the price will be increased from $149 to $179. I will wait and order one when they become available. It's a great 3D trainer. I was already up to a 2-1/2D level ;-) when I crashed mine!

Thanks for the advice. I do have an Eflite 480 I can use. I was just wondering if a Power 10 had been used before. I saw a couple of other postings on RCGroups.com where they had used 450 - 500W systems and had problems with wings folding, elevators cracking, etc. They also did not recommend higher than the 480. Again, thanks for quick response.

RE: Deans Connector fit ?
ORIGINAL: -pkh- That can make things worse. The one I melted did have the male and female plugs together, and the spring force of the male pushed the female contact away from it, so when it cooled it was a loose fit. After that happened, I figured if the plastic melts or softens, it's best not to have any pressure on the contact so it doesn't move much. After I started tinning both the wire and contact, I didn't have to heat it nearly as much to get a good solder joint, and I haven't damaged anymore since then. Red, you use Vaseline on the pins?? I didn't think Vaseline was a very good conductor!
Well, if you overheated it that much, then I agree, things would melt out of place. Regular soldering should not create that much heat.

RE: Deans Connector fit ?
ORIGINAL: -pkh- I've been using the real Dean's and the HobbyCity knockoffs, and both work well. The HobbyCity knockoffs have a ribbed grip molded into them, so they are easy to pull apart. I've only over heated one of the knockoffs soldering it on, and had to replace it. As Leo said, the trick is to tin both the connector and the wire first, then solder them together quickly. I also use one of those gator clip helping-hand devices to hold the wire and connector for me, then I have two hands free to hold the soldering iron and solder.
To avoid overheating Deans connectors, make sure you plug the connector to another connector while soldering the leads. For example, plug a male connector to a female connector before soldering. This will assure that heat is properly disipated without deforming the pins.

RE: E-flite tribute FX
Hobby Zone still has them in stock, but I don't think for much longer. Here is a link: http://www.hobbyzone.com/rc_planes_e-flite_tribute_fx_3d.htm This is a great plane for the price ($65). I flew one for quite a while and it can handle anything you throw at it, if you are an experienced pilot. If not, then you should fly it at low rates and be gentle with the controls until you get used to it. The plane is rather fragile, especially the landing gear area so I would first try to reinforce this area. The way one side of the elevator is attached to the other (a small round carbon rod) is not adequate, so I added a thin wooden strip to make sure it wouldn't come off. Also, the canopy has a tendency to come off in flight, so you need to reinforce this area as well. The plane does excellent knife edges, harriers, hovers, flat spins, etc., etc. I had a lot of fun with it while learning 3D maneuvers.

RE: suggestions for 2nd plane?
You should definetely move to 4ch airplanes. I think you will quickly get bored if you stick to 3 ch. You can stick to the trainer type for which there are several good ones in the market or move more into the sports type airplane if you are currently comfortable with the J-3. Ultimately, you may want to move into the 3D type if you like that kind of challenge. I started with a J-3 Cub when they first came out (brushed motors and gear boxes), then moved to a Parkflyers 540 Edge, an E-flite Mini Ultra Stick, then the Parkzone Typhoon 2. I'm still flying the Typhoon 2 but my favorite plane now is the E-flite Eratix 25E. I'm also flying the E-flite Diamante 25E and the E-flite Ultra Stick 25E. There are so many good planes out in the market that is hard to recommend a specific one for someone else. Nevertheless, I'm biased towards the E-flite brand, as you can see from above. Hope this helps out.
