RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
Mine has a OS 95AX/MVVS pipe and Eflite retracts and only needed the battery mounted about 4-5 inches behind trailing edge of the wing to balance, just make a tray in lower fuse turtlledeck and slide it thru the opening. Cheers Greg

Same amount of back stick pressure and forward stick pressure for upright and inverted flight straight flight I think.

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
I think the length of the std gear might be an issue for electric and they are super stiff as well, transfer lots of load back into the fuse which doesn't have a lot of reserve strength in the gear area. I got a Graphtech for mine which I think is about an inch longer and much more flexible, I used one on a previous model and it was great. Cheers Greg

RE: Composite-ARF Integral, kinda build thread
Joe Mine came with silver canopy thankfully, for some reason I don't like clear canopy's on F3A models. I bought it to power it with Brenner's contra drive but I think there are better airframes for that power system so its just been kinda sitting around. I currently fly Oxai Austral XX's with YS power and like them a lot. Not sure what to power the Integral with, I keep changing my mind between an outrunner and IC. The post from Woodie is encouraging on weight because I thought it might struggle to make weight electric. I think I'm in a similar class over here to you, just need a true flying machine which my current Austral's are hence I haven't been in a hurry to replace them but I should get cracking on the Integral anyway. What are you going to power your's with? Cheers Greg

RE: Prettner MAGIC build
David Yes 91VRDF, using 18% Klotz KL100/10% Nitro. Tried 20 and 30 Nitro and didn't make a lot of difference. There is plenty of room for the header to get past the carb but the header I had made for the MVVS91 wont't work I have to get another one made, unfortunatly the header will end up a tad long for peak RPM according to my testing but still should be good and may even be a little more forgivig to operate. I haven't had to chop or modify the airframe at all get this thing in so if its no good in the air I can swap back to the MVVS91 easily. Cheers Greg

RE: Prettner MAGIC build
Its been a while since I touched this thing but done a little bit in the last couple of weeks. After a lot of bench testing I've decided to give the OS91 ducted fan motor a try, it turns an APC 11x7 at 17,000 with a MVVS muffled pipe (same rpm as a Macs but much quieter). Made the rudder and elevators which were missing from the kit and hinged them, faired in the bottom the wing and made and fitted the servo tray. Cheers Greg

Will Thanks, here are some pictures of Magic/Tragic/Phoenix I'm working on, do you think it looks like the HB fuse? Did you send Don a modified fuse to mold or will each one have to be done, actually you can see some of Dons fuses in the background. I need to clean the freeking workshop and set up for measurement. RE: Making Molds of Classic Pattern Plane Fuselages & Parts to Keep them Alive for all of us to Enjoy!
Will Great info thanks man. I found an info sheet for my kit and it matches totally with your numbers of incidence +.75 degrees on both wing and stab, 70mm dihedral and 110mm anhedral and 1 degree downthrust but it looks like more than that. The thing is I have seen pictures of the Hobby Barn fuse and mine is the same down to the wood parts all being in the same place but mine is actually branded FK and wait for it, is called a Phoenix. I need to clear the bench and assemble it all and measure some stuff. Just did a big incidence check on my 2 metre model with anhedral stab and it was a pain, if you dont get the incidence meter exactly parallel with the fuse centre line you get false readings big time, you never totally believe your readings. Anyway I'll try to upload the info sheet and some pics of the model when I can figure out how to do it. Really appreciate your input. Cheers Greg

Flywilly 1.5 degrees which way, I'm about 2/3 thirds through a glass Magic and have the wing fitted and faired ( bummer if I have to change it) and the stab glued in but not faired. Do you know what the wing/stab relationship is supposed to be and maybe I change the stab and thrust to suit, I haven't measured anything just assumed the fus would be OK. Cheers Greg Hede Australia

Hi I'd like to know what everybody thinks is the best out of the box aeroplane for the Contra, about six months ago I think the concensus was the CARF Valiant and the Wind S Pro needed the least tweaking to fly great, any other Contra natural airframes out there. Cheers Greg

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
Matt I'll let you know how the PTE36 goes with the pipe. The little bloke on one shoulder likes to test and experiment with new stuff and the sensible little bloke on the other shoulder says just stump up the cash for a DZ175CDI and a heap of fuel and go practice. My number one plane is an Oxai AstralXX/DZ160 so I won't be able to compare to a DZ170/175. Got a new Integral to build and just kicking around engine options, gut feel is the PTE36 won't make it but I'll give it a fair go in this other airframe anyway. The other thing is on the Integral you have to fabricate a pipe tunnel for anything long, the Hatori just fits. Cheers Greg

Matt Thanks that does help, sounds pretty good might be worth a try. The only one I've played with is a thing called a PTE36 which is a rear exhaust 36cc Chinese jigger, only had about 20 flights on it and it went OK on the standard muffler but I am about to try it with a mvvs tuned pipe in a better airframe but it sounds like the OS might be a bit stronger and would be better built I guess as well. I'll be thinking about it while flying at the local, sounds cool. Cheers Greg Hede Australia

RE: Contra Rotating Propeller Drive for f3a 2m Pattern Planes
Brenner How do think the Chip style split rudder would work on an Integral with the contra. You could vary the thickness of the TE by having it slightly open at neutral to get the on centre feel dialed in, or does it only work as I believe Chip uses it as a single sided movement with the other side staying centred. RE: Contra Rotating Propeller Drive for f3a 2m Pattern Planes
Hi You guys are amazing in your detailed aerodynamic predictions although for a while there I thought you might have a tad too much eggnog over Christmas until Brian mentioned the Midrex. I have no data or knowledge to support my gut feeling but I think the bipe with the narrower fuse just might work a treat with the contra, that straight prop blast through those two wings just shouts locked in to me. And by the way Seba will be producing a 2Metre Miss Wind bipe to be called Miss Italia in balsa to be released last quarter 2012. I'll be getting one regardless of power system. Cheers and happy new year Greg Hede Australia

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
The way it was dragging that Slick around would suggest it has more grunt than a DLE30 and also the suggested props from the factory are all a bit bigger than the competition is recommending, I would just like to see a positive owner experience and some numbers after MATTK's issues. I know Tower gets bagged pretty bad on most forums but I buy heaps from them and find the service great so I have no problem with the whole Great Planes juggernaut backing a young talent like Joey I think its great. I am looking at it from a pattern perspective as well but my gut feeling is this class of gasser is going to just miss the mark, I went from a piped/pumped 160FX( I have never owned a 4 stroke glow motor) straight to electric which is really good but I would like a real engine again, the YS170/175 remains the benchmark power source for pattern. After 20 or so flights on the PTE36 with stock muffler in a really old and heavy F3A airframe I think maybe it will come up short, but I have another lighter airframe to try it in and an MVVS tuned pipe so we'll see. Even though the OS is side exhaust being the same bolt pattern as the DLE means there is heaps of exhaust options out there already which is good, getting a header for the rear exhaust PTE36 was a chore( a Webra 120R header fits if anyone is interested). I hpoe its really good, I just can't imagine OS getting it wrong after the 55. Cheers Greg

MattK Come on don't tease us , a bad engine doesn't just decide to make great power one day and then not. It must make power given your YS 170 comparo. You know what they say about race cars, its a lot easier to make a fast car reliable than it is to make a slow car fast.( and the same goes for drivers for what its worth) Cheers Greg
