RE: Classic trip to Kansas City
We had a great time looking and touching all those classic planes. Glad we were able to buy some and will get them back into the air soon. Going to update the servos and tighten up the Monokote, go thru the motors and get them ready for flight, Had a good time talking with Duane and looking at the old pictures of him and Bob the original owner and flier of the airplanes. Robert, Dont you have a V3 from you earlier post? Not sure on the V2 but on the V3, positive 1/4 degree on the wing and 0 on the stab per the plan is what I show. CG is at the front of the wing tube. Joe

RE: Help with TurboCad set up
After looking in the help files and doing what RG said. I multiplied by X and Y scales times 8 and there it is. Now its measuring to full scale. I tried to make the DFX to scale but due to all the information on the scrambled and dusty DFX it slowed the computor to a stop. Scaled my traced layer and it comes right up. Im all happy now. I may get this thing done someday.... HA Thanks for all the help guys, Joe

RE: Help with TurboCad set up
TurcbCad doesnt have a way to import a PDF that is why I converted over to a DFX. I looking thru the help files to see if there is a different way to input. I agree on the time consuming process. I have hours into tracing around my project and to find out I cant get it set up to full size even thou AideCan says that it was scanned to DFX at full size. Confused on this.

RE: Help with TurboCad set up
It is a very dirty or scrambled DFX File. Looks like dust all over it and the drawn lines when zoomed in are a bunch of scribbles. Im wanting to clean it up and draw out some missing formers and have the parts CNC routered. It looks like when the file was converted it didnt convert full size. I have a added new layers over the converted file and have traced the outline of the fuse to create a line drawing. Im lost on how to scale it up to full size.

Help with TurboCad set up
I have a set pf plans that are a PDF file. I have converted them to a DFX file using AideCad PDF to DFX converter. They are loaded and now come up in my TurboCad 15 program but the problem is when I measure the fuselage on the converted plan it measures 9.5" total length. The fuselage on the PDF plan file measures 76". I cant seen to find where I went wrong in my set up. Im wanting to redraw the plans in a DFX file full size. Anybody know and can assist me. This is new grounds for me VS paper and lead. Thanks in advance, Joe

RE: Fiberglass cloth
Yes Pete you are correct the the lows do simulate a aluminum panel nicely on a warbird. Looks like the real thing. But a poor build will not be able to be sanded out and if you sand thru the glass cloth your heavy handed or your chasing issues. I am used to covering modern pattern style planes where a blocked flat panel is pristine and a polished surface. I do have a Ziroli bird waiting to be assembled. Still gathering parts.

RE: Fiberglass cloth
To keep from sanding thru the fibers of the glass do a good sanding and filling on the structure prior to laying out the glass cloth and epoxy. If you do see you have a slight low spot put on some putty over or in the low spot. I use a guide coat spray that will show where your lows are. Joe

RE: Fiberglass cloth
I would also buy from Thayercraft. 75.00 for 50 yards shipped. If you were to order the Sig glass in the 2 yd pkg you will end up spending 30 to 40 dollars, and it is a pain to lay the glass out the way it is folded to fit in the bag. Fine weave cloth is easy to distort and snag the fibers. I roll it straight of the pvc tube directly on to the wing or fuselage. Buy the roll and split it with a friend if cost is the factor. You will have enough to cover 10 warbirds. Joe

Matt, when you glass the ailerons using dope is there any issues with warpage if both sides are done at different times? Im thinking of covering my new bird using nitrate dope and light weight cloth. Joe

RE: Molding a Dirty Bridy 60 Fuselage
What I use for the alignment pins are plastic feet that you would put on the bottom of wood chairs so they dont scratch the floor. They have a small nail that is molded in them. I drill the parting board and ca the glide or foot to it. Makes a nice size alignment pin that is easy to wax due to the size. Ill post a picture later if you want more info. Joe

RE: home made wing tube sleeve?
Chris, I do the same as Mark but i have found if you polish the aluminum tube and give it a couple coats of wax the fiberglass sleve will come of easier when dry. The wax paper will be stuck in the sleve. Use a smaller diameter brass tube to work out the wax paper. I wrap the wet out glass with a peel ply material that will let out the excess epoxy. Joe

RE: Electric Retracts - Modifying existing Air/Servo-operated Retracts
Tom, Is the binding issue from the motor when cycling repeatively or from the threaded shaft into the gear or the gear mesh. I cant see by the video if the threaded rod travels parallel to the to the gear frames or if it pivots for alignment. I have seen a couple different styles of retracts where the cam travels parallel in the side frames and some where the frames are arched with up and down stops milled in them. If the coupler or the rod doesnt give to the drive I could see some binding. Could a coupler be used like in this attached link http://www.ruland.com/ps_couplings_flexible_pcr_a.asp to take up for any alignment issue? I have PCR12A couplers and they are flexible to some degree and may possibly eliminate your thrust bearing. Joe

RE: Electric Retracts - Modifying existing Air/Servo-operated Retracts
Tom, im watching your retract modification with great intrest. Ive bought almost all the materials etc for making a Ziroli Corsair. Im working on making the main rotating retracts and now instead of using air ill go with electric. Do you think the same gear motor will pull up some 6" wheels? Still havent put much thought to the retractable tail wheel but will probably go the same electric route using a separate board. Joe
