RE: Guillows Cessna 150 RC
I finnished my 180 some time ago. It flies great. Weight is 12 oz. Used a dual ips motor with 8060 prop and a 2 cell 12ma li. I just doubled the plans to 40". Guillows kits can be built much lighter. Now for the bird dog.

RE: Home Made foam cutter question
You could use a dimmer in the circuit with an incadesent bulb (100 watt ?) and the cutting wire. Series the circuit in this order from the hot, dimmer, bulb, cutting wire, neutral. It would be much better to use a battery charger though. And a whole lot safer. Keep in touch, I need to build one also. John Smith

RE: Disappearing cox
Hang in there you guys. Plenty of vintage engines on e bay. I remember when the baby bee was like $2.99. And the testers .049 was $2.49. I have always loved the half A. I remember the free flights in the 60's, now almost gone, but some great memories. Now I enjoy electric flight. And collect vintage kits and supplies I remember from the 60's. Just let it go---------------------- John

RE: GWS Fokker Monoplane
I have that plane but never built it. With the 350, might as well go with the ailerons. How did it fly with the IPS system? With the right Li Poly, it should fly for over an hour. Looks like a real calm park flyer. I fly a slow stick and think it's great for the park. John Smith

Make sure the wing and tail is still aligned, and the motor thrust angle did not change. Also that the battery is still in place for ballance. Check the prop for damage.

You should get in the building when you cant fly. Try a small rubber free flight kit, great fun. Hang in there and good luck on the wind condition.

I always remove the battery from the plane after flight. Electric planes can be built lighter, plan on that from the start. Good luck and keep in touch.

RE: Lil'Roughneck - what motor/prop?
No John, the plane is not to heavy. You will need at least 12 oz. of thrust to fly well. With a 7 inch prop, a brushless motor is probably needed. I have built an electric Jr. Falcon with a 37" wing span. It weighs 13 0z. I use an IPS dual motor with 4:1 gears and a 8060 prop. Has a 1200 ma 2 cell Lipo and flys like the old .049 ones I remember in the 60's. You need to build lighter

RE: Lil'Roughneck - what motor/prop?
Yes, lipo's are lighter, a 3 cell 1500 ma pack of the new generation type would weigh about 3.5 oz. and will deliver more than enough current at 11.1 volts. I dont know much about brushless motors. Remember, if you use Lipo's, get all the info needed to handle them safely. Above all, keep the fun in it!

RE: Lil'Roughneck - what motor/prop?
Verry nice plane. It would be better if it weighs under 16 oz. Then it would fly good on an ips dual motor with 4:1 gears and about a 8060 prop, real inexpensive. You will probably need the brushless motor. What about lithiums?

RE: Comet 54" Aeronca Chief
I would sheet a lot of the structures with 1/16 sheet over the standard balsa frame. Use cap strips on the wings. Beef up the landing gear. Be careful and dont add to much extra weight. Try a dual IPS motor with 5.6:1 gears and a 9070 prop, or a higher gear ratio and larger prop. I like lithiums so about a 2 cell 1200 ma. E-Tech would do. Get some modern silk span. Dont go with the paper in the kit. Dope with a 50/50 mix of thinner. Dont forget to install a steerable tail wheel. Sounds like much fun. Give us the progress reports.

RE: Sig Li'l Rascal wing modification
The Rascal is an old timer. It must have a light wing loading to fly slow. The wing used is thin, needs to be thicker. If you keep the air speed up a little it flyes good. Sig's Lil Rascal is about 4 ounces too heavy. Try about a 36" old timer re-kit. Like the play boy or Miss America. Keep it about 9 ounces and use a GWS geared motor and 8" prop. They have a great selection. [8D]

Looks much like the glider we get for 5 bucks and add the mini radio and GWS DD motor with 3" prop. Flies about 50 MPH and very tough, almost none destructable.
