RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
You bee`s right on the power to the starter being the secret, I have a 180 starter mounted on a 7 amp gel cell 12 volt with about 4 inches of wire to it and can turn my friends 30 DLE real easy..the secret is in the length of the wire for voltage drop...... John Saito # 119

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Thanks OF but that don`t seem feasable or even possible to run it around and around the crank case ???? I can`t find anything on it from the past posts, I may try it for an experiment, don`t see where it would be any different than an OS, a motor is a motor is a motor if you know what I mean, at worst it would kill some power but I have plenty............ Looks to me like with the oil entering the intake, that if one was running 18% oil that it would raise the percentage up to 20 or more into the engine..just thinking about it, but that thinking sometimes gets me into trouble :-) ......... thanks again..... About the ceramic bearings, in my misguided life talking to the boys that make the noise etc. 99.9 cases of ceramic bearings going bad is in the installation, they are prone to crack if they are not installed correctly, cocked or hammered on, a lot moreso than metal ones.........John

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
W8ye, In reading the posts on tapping a crank, I had a 150 Saito that sort of hit a little hard, you might say, and bent the crank, I took it over to a friends place, Larry Jenno, ( the J on the Zinger props), he lives here in Vegas, he has a milling machine that it takes 30 seconds to walk around, as he is still building engines, anyway he was going to try and straighten it, but it snapped being so hard, so he drilled and tapped it to a 1/4X28 thread, saying that props start out at 1/4 in. anyway so it won`t have to be reamed, anyway, now if it bends I just cut off a piece of allthread and make a new shaft, neato, I have ran the engine but have not put it on a plane yet..... just a line to say that it can be done.....thanks ...John Beings he is a friend on the charges I do not know if it would be any cheaper than a new crank or not if one had to get it done at a machine shop at full price........

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey Chemoman, find a A/C repairman and get a stick of Sil Fos from him it will work on steel to steel and has a tensil strength greater than brazing, it will need flux, but so will the brass....unless you have ready access to brass, which will work........ gud luck

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Chris, I use a 13.5-8 Bolly on a couple 100 saitos and it gets the job done pretty good for me, but I don`t do the 3-D stuff, would probably be to much pitch and to short for that....would probably depend on the plane and what kind of flying you want to do, I have them on a 60 Super stick and a Tiger 60....good luck John

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Birman: Suggestion for the Saito 100 I built a Tiger 60 and took most of the dihedral out of the wing, put the servo`s back by the tail feathers, had to put the batterie way forward, ( still close on the balance, brass nose cone) put a Saito 100 on it and it was a sweet plane to fly, for sport or acrobatics, still on the order of the 4* and Venture .......John

RE: What was your first engine?
First engine, a .29 Pierce, about 1946 or 7, had 3 planes, 2 control line and 1 free flight, just changed the engine when I wanted to fly each one, was flying it when the glow plug came out about 47 or so, thought I had died and gone to heaven couldn`t wait to get all the condensers etc, stripped out of the planes, and my fingers healed up from changing the timing up behind the prop, still have the Pierce, don`t know why as I never touched another plane or motor till 2001, and then went ballistic, have way to many now.....thanx...John

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Harleyflyer: When you put the muffler on your 100, take note that one end of the pipe is tapered, that end goes into the engine, put 3 wraps of teflon tape around it first and turn it in to bottom out in the engine, then jam the nut down with the teflon that is left outside from screwing it into the head, that seales is from leaking fuel, and like the William says run it to hot and then tighten the jam nut, you can do the same on the muffler with the teflon and jam nut if you want to, works good, no locktite.......good luck......John p.s. if you have plenty of room you can cut off the pipe quite a bit so the muffler is mounted closer to the engine also.......(just cut the nontapered end)
