RE: Back after 5 yrs away
The ys140 was sold as an option by QQ with this plane. I had an os 160 on mine, and had to put the battery pack on the engine box in order to balance. If you have to do this, a a123 pack might be a tight squeeze underneath the cowl. I doubt you would have to worry about that though with the ys.

RE: Spectrum DX8, Love it? Hate it? What?
It will bend- if you push the sticks all the way up or down they'll bend/flex slightly. I assume this is without much pressure. Like I said, this is what I have read in a review.

RE: Spectrum DX8, Love it? Hate it? What?
If you fly helicopters, the dx8 has a 5point throttle curve. A radio at this level (features/price) should have a 7 point curve. I read a review that said the gimbles would flex when moved up and down to the end points. Looks like quality wasnt as big a deal as telemetry.

RE: Landing Gear Fairing attachment help
My fairings had a strip of wood infront and behind the wire, about a half inch wide, the full length along the wire. I put a landing gear strap towards the top and bottom, makes it easy to remove.

RE: OMP YAK 47
When I put mine together, I put a sullivan tail gear on it, thinking it needed it. When the steering wire broke I put the original wire it was suppose to have on, and I think it works better. One benefit to the tethrite gear is it won't stress the airframe as much -shock absorbing. If you fly off grass not abig deal at all.

RE: OS Max 60 FP Not Running
My 60 fp is a sweet engine. Gave me trouble only once when I replaced the carb and didn't have the airbleed screw set right. Other club members have noted how impressed with its performance -power and transition. I've had it on a big swamp buggy, PT60 trainer, and back on the swamp buggy. Very reliable for me for 8 years. I did lap the piston/sleeve before I used it, more or less did a complete teardown when brand new. You would not believe all the little filings that I got out of it.

RE: OMP YAK 47
Follow the directions, and it will turn out good. The only concern I had was the teatherite landing gear, they are abit spongy when landing and prop strikes if the landing isn't somewhat smooth. Be careful to not get any glue in the servo wire channel when gluing the sheeting on the fuse. I used gorilla glue and it foamed into the channel. I used plenty of weight evenly on the fuse so the glue would not move the sheeting or produce gaps. Wish I had another one fo these kits, real fun plane.

RE: Rimfire 42-50-800 substitute?
I used a eflight power 32 in mine after getting frustrated at the backorder getting pushed back and back.... I've only made a few flights, on a 3S 2200 pack and it does alright for pattern, but I bet it would come alive for 3-d really well with a 4s pack.

RE: Flying on a frozen lake.
Flying in the center of the lake is great, even in 20+ mph winds, since the wind is less turbulent. Down lines are quick and up lines take forever though. Doesn't matter which way the wind is, flight line moves accordingly, until some snowmobiler comes along and parks his butt in the way to watch, and creates plane eating ruts in the snow.

RE: GP T-Craft
The front half of the head does stick out, the back half I kept enough clearence. It could have been cut tighter, but I've had cowled engines that needed to breathe a little more than what I thought they needed. I don't know if putting the engine at a differnt angle with a different muffler would make it better, but I'm not looking to spend money to find out. I'm just using what I have laying around to complete it. If I could throw money in the air, I'd put a four stroke and some lighter servos in it, heck -it would even be fun as an electric I bet.[:D]

RE: GP T-Craft
My friend has a lower vert. stab. on his Decath float plane. Looks simple enough to add if needed. Well, closed on the house, started cleaning and painting, moving a few things in, and a little electrical work. Seems like it takes forever to get something done, and I'm almost always needing something more for supplies to fix or touch up this or that. At least I made an order with Tower Hobbies last night, and got the few last items I need for the T-craft. It's will be a busy weekend, but hopefully I can treat myself to some covering of the tail pieces next week.

RE: GP T-Craft
I was wondering if anyone had put it on floats.[8|] Lengthwise being a short plane, I was curious how it would handle water.

RE: Are all great planes kits this BAD?
My T-craft kit was good (just need to cover it). I've built about 6-7 GP kits, and all were good. I'd like to see what a bad one looks like, make me feel really fortunate...

RE: GP T-Craft
I got your message Rich. That's an idea I had not thought of, but I think I want to keep the solid plastic windows. I built an Old Timer 40 with the side windows, and it turned out really nice. Just need to get the right amount of glue on them so it doesn't look like a mess. There was no way the stock muffler would fit in the cowl. I had to cut the cowl to get it to slide back to the firewall. The front of the muffler is over an inch out from the cowl at the farthest point. I figure on covering with Monokote, with a red and white scheme similar to advertising picture scheme. Likely use some checkerboard trim tape to dress it up a little. Don't know when I'll get done with it, have a few higher priority items to take care of next week. Closing on a house on Wed., have to update the electrical right away (get rid of buse fuses to satisfy insurance), shampoo carpets before moving in, and begin moving in. I have a few months before things get busy with work on the farm, I hope I can have it at least covered sometime in the next month.

GP T-Craft
Been working on building a T-craft the last month and a half, kind of a stress releaver for me. About ready to cover now, just need a few items to complete. I have a OS 25 fp in it, wanted to put a 26 four stroke in it, but read too many saying it was a bit underpowered for this plane. Was thinking about buying a cowl from Fiberglass Specialties, but I kind of want to keep all costs down and not spend more money if I don't have to. I gave a try at putting the three piece cowl together, and it turned out good. Felt guilty to cut it up in order to get the muffler on. The side windows are butyrate sheet, does this mean I can glue it like regular plastic? I have Pacer formula 560 canopy glue for the windsheild, will this work fine? I've used it for a number of windsheilds, seems like the level in the bottle never goes down.

RE: Funtana X100
I didn't like how loose the metal clevises felt when threaded on the rod, felt like a lot of play -way too much for me. I used the dubro clevis also, makes things feel smoother.

RE: engine for Funtana 100X
If you look in the 3D forum, the funtana 100 thread, people have put an os 160 on it, but I think they moved the firewall back. Will it pull it in half -if you don't respectfully use throttle management, yes... Many pin the firewall even though they are using a smaller engine.

RE: How do y'all control balsa dust?
The furnace filter on a box fan is a cheap way to go, works alright. I have an old air purifier that works basically the same. Instead of changing the filter, I can vaccum the prefilter out and it's good to go again. Usually do sanding in front of it so the dust gets sucked up right away. Like having it run when working with CA too, helps to deal with the fumes.

RE: du-bro snow skis
I don't use a flat spot on mine, but I do put on an extrawheel collar. Make it easier to make changes for conditions, change the angle... The springs do a great job, strong yet flex. Too bad they don't included a picture of how it is set up. I need to get a second set for another plane.

RE: 7/16th Aileron Stock?
Best to make your own, not too hard to do. YOu just need a stock piece, ruler, pen, razor plane and a sanding block. Doesn't take long to do, and it beats looking/running around for what you can't find.

RE: US40 and Skis
I have the dubro skis on my SS 40 and they work perfect for that size/weight. Wish they made a bigger size for 60 sized planes. Springs help keep the skis up for landing, yet flex for bumps. If the snow is soft and dry, they'll cut in a little, 3/4 inch at most, but so will everything along with creating drag. Need to hold some up elevator when at slower speeds while taxiing, like going through thick grass. On crusty snow, it's like being on ice hard to slow down quickly. Have old pictures from years ago, need to get some new pics.

RE: Funtana X100
When I put my Funtana together, I used great planes CA hinge material. I noticed how long the slots were for the hinges, and thought I could put a longer hinge in each slot. I ended up using an old GP kit's uncut CA hinge material so I could have longer hinges. I'll likely have to one day put in hinge points, I just hope this will make it last a little longer.

RE: Winter Season????
Wind isn't that bad. Lakes freeze and suddenly the airfield is really big and it doesn't matter which direction the wind is from. I've flown in 25 mph winds, kinda fun -quick down lines and slow getting back upwind. It's also nice to fly indoors too.

RE: Wing tube for servo wire
I put some tubes in my bipe after it was framed up, before covering it. I used someone else's suggestion of cotting some holes in the ribs and use rolled up typing paper for the tubes, a touch of CA to hold them in place and they have done rather well. They don't have to be really durable or heavy, they are only for routing a servo wire. Very simple to do, and cheap too... There are several ways to put tubes in, but they sure make life easier.

RE: nitro & extreme cold
Your plane, engine and fuel will fair better than you when it's that cold. You won't be out in those temps though (those aren't norm temps, just the lows). You haven't seen -65 at Grand Rapids, -40 would be more like it for a extreme low. I've flown on Mil Lacs while ice fishing a few times, wind chill becomes a factor... A good shack on the lake works good for keeping things warm before flight. Sunglasses are a must, even when cloudy. I find if it's in the teens, it's bearable. I haven't flown 2 strokes during the winter, just my 4 strokes. Only thing needed to change is fuel mixture to deal with more dense and much less humid air. Batteries don't last as long, which gives time to warm up.
