Good luck Mods! I found some information on the tomahawk elsewhere, if it'll help out. It sounds like a good addition to the speed forum... The only ARF F-18 I know of is the one by VMAR. It's probably not in production yet, but its been on their website for awhile.

RE: my cermark f-16 project,
That's just awesome work! I really like what you guys are doing. I love seeing those airplanes that are unique and really stand out and you're going to have a show-stopper once finished. I'm not an ARF basher by any means, but I get really tired of seeing the same 'ole airplane schemes over and over. I also love the attention you've given to the landing gears...for some strange reason that's the first thing I look at on an airplane (I'm just a weirdo). [:)]

Great Planes F-15 ARF?
I just found this interesting little item on e-b-a-y. It bears so much resemblence to the Great Planes F-15 that it must be a clone of the same airplane, but in ARF form. Heck, it even has the same dimensions! It's no speed plane, but the propjet jockeys might be interested. If anybody is curious, do a search on item # 6003490997. It's ironic that I sold mine just a month ago and this pops up. humm....

Quite interesting in a cartoon-ish way (as with their other ones). I think it looks better than the F-5, A-4 and F-4. However, you have to give them some respect for punting out 5 ARF propjets here lately. Taildragger, I think you've made a very good choice on the Cermark F-16, it's way too nice looking and at the same price as a VMAR. However, did I read this right on that F-18? Fixed gear? [8|]

Okay, I'll try something...[8|] I dug out my old plans and scanned them on my home scanner to see how they'd come out. I didn't resize them or anything but here are the plan sections that show the CG range on the F-15... Maybe they can be of some help. I'm sorry I can't give you a good CG measurement from my F-15. Given the recent changes, I wouldn't trust it until its has been flown and proven. [:o] I think adding a second aileron servo is a good idea. The F-15 is coming along very well, Neil! Looks good!

RE: F-15 Greatplanes
I have a F-15 currently. Like CRFlyer, I also had problems with it being nose heavy. Matter of fact, I flew it all last year with a nose heavy condition. I even cut a hatch out in the tail of the airplane to fit my battery, but it still needs some more weight back there. Even with that issue, it flies predictably....it's not going to blow you away, rather, it's almost as docile as a trainer. Lands better than a trainer too, in my opinion. I have too much rudder throw on mine and it does strange things at full deflection, so keep them low. Conversely, mine requires a lot of elevator to rotate, but I think that's mostly due to the heavy nose. I have a Thunder tiger .46 pro on it and I think that it pulls it around okay, but it definately won't win any speed records. I also fly from grass, and had a lot of problems with ground clearance and the grass beating my landing gear to death, so after the canopy parted company with the airplane on that last flight of the season, I intended to do a lot of revisions to it this year...namely to fix the nose heavy condition, fit larger wheels, longer/stronger landing gear, reinforce the nose gear former, and put a new canopy on. Unfortunately things have came up this year (namely a baby) and I haven't had a chance to finish working on it. So sadly, I can't report on how it flies right now with those problems (hopefully) corrected. Neil, if you can, I'd like to see pictures of your retract setup in your airplane. The fixed gear looks goofy on mine! [:D] Best wishes!

RE: Patriot XL Mech Retracts options
I've done a Thunderbirds scheme on an Altech F-22 and a demonstrator F-15. The way I did it may not be the best way, but it worked alright, provided you've got a good eye and not too picky about the results. Doing the scallops was tricky for me. I covered the airplane in white monocote completely, and when finished, I would freehand draw where the scallops should be on the monocote with a black sharpie. If the position/size/shape didn't look right, I'd just take some trim solvent to remove the lines and draw them again until they looked right to me. Once I was satisfied that the scallops were okay and in proportion, I took a piece of plain white paper, taped it over the a scallop section and traced the sharpie outlines onto the paper. Take the paper off of the airplane, put it the colored monocote and cut both of them out. I usually break them up into left/right sections that join in the middle of the top and bottom of the airplane. Once have all the pieces ready, I use the "windex method" (see this thread:http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/How_to_make_a_3D_American_Flag_on_your_planes/m_603331/tm.htm )to position the scallops in the right spots, let them dry overnight and hit it with a little bit of trim solvent around the edges and low heat in the middle. The trickiest part is getting them lined up at the break sections of the scallops, so be careful that you're very accurate in regards to the width of the scallops. Also if you do late-model T-bird scheme like I did, keep in mind, you'll only have to cut out a red scallop, and a blue scallop because for the white one in the middle, you'll just leave the base white showing. I used the same method to do the tail sections and the 'bird on the bottom of the F-22, but I'm never going to put an outline around it again. My result turned out pretty lousy and was time-consuming. (although from a distance, you can't tell it) The stripes are just measured out and cut for the wing tips on mine (not done very well, though). Hope I didn't confuse you too much and maybe it'll help. If anybody else has some other suggestions on how to do it, I'd like to hear about them as well!!

Mike, I'm sorry to hear that you've gotten this close and have to put things on hold for now. [:o] I know there are a lot of people that were anxiously waiting to see the Eliminator and King Air make it to production, but I know you're doing the right thing. Given the past misdealings that have been dealt to you and the current costs that the composite design is facing, I sincerely hope and pray that those storm clouds will part soon and you'll see sunnier skies. And when they do, check back in with me, because my interests in the Eliminator will still be there, regardless. Let me know if you need any assistance in any form or another....take care up there!

RE: "Eliminator 2" sport jet final assembly
Hey Mike, I re-read my post and wanted to tell you that I'm not trying to tell you how to build your plane, I just was curious if you had taken it into consideration. If everything goes well (like we all hope!), I'd like to see it as an option for the builder. Also, thinking ahead if you make a turbine conversion, a tail skid will be redundant. So I like your idea of letting the builder add it on, provided it's a fairly easy job. [:)] I don't think it would be hard anyway.... Just mount a length of piano wire in the motor mount and drill a small hole in the fuse and that would be all that's needed from ruining those hard-to-find pusher props...

RE: "Eliminator 2" sport jet final assembly
Hey Mike; Quick question, but have you incorporated a tail skid on the prototype to prevent prop strikes during take off and landing? Or is it there and I just don't see it in the pictures? I know that your design will allow quite a bit of rotation before the prop will strike, but I was just wondering if it was there or not... RE: SIG Mid Star 40 or Great Planes Easy Sport 40 Kit?
I don't think you could go wrong either way so I'm sure you'll be happy with the Mid-star Phillip! [:D] GP's wood selection does get me down, which is sad because they've got a fine selection of kits. I've built five of their kits and the wood ranges from fair to downright poor in quality. The worst I've ever seen was in my F-4 Phantom. Lots of lite-ply and rock hard balsa. I haven't started building it and that is the primary reason why..... I'm not bashing great planes but this is one area that I do think they should improve upon. I got a Patriot XL I'm working on right now and the wood is a bit better, so maybe on the newer kits (like the RV-4) they're tightening up on Quality Control. My apologies for taking this discussion onto a tangent... Good luck on the Mid-star![sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: SIG Mid Star 40 or Great Planes Easy Sport 40 Kit?
I never had a Mid-star, so I can't compare it to it but I can share my experiences with the Easy Sport. In my opinion, it's very easy to fly, it was like going a more agile trainer but mine took off and landed better. It wasn't great at aerobatics, because mine needed more power (plus I didn't get too adventureous either, I was just tickled to take off and land successfully). It was absolutely the best airplane to fly off of my club's grass field. I built it as a taildragger and it had the beefiest wire main landing gear I've ever seen! Add some larg-ish wheels and it was a joy to perform a slow and easy climb outs on take off. Never, ever had to bend the gear back into position after doinking down on the runway.... I second Matt's opinion that neither look well, but with some work they can look better. I made several mods to mine including mounting the engine sideways, carving a cowl and moving the canopy forward. It came out little porky and with a lowly OS 40FX pulling it, I wouldn't say it was a powerhouse. Still I liked it a lot as an everyday flyer. About the only complaint that I had about my kit was the quality of the wood. The wood selection wasn't outstanding, and I had to replace an aileron because it was warped. Build is straightforward, but with the kit you have the choice to make it either a trike or taildragger. If you do go for the easy sport, watch out in the manual. It covers the build on both the 60 and 40 sized easy sports, so keep that in mind when building it to avoid mistakes and confusion. BTW, don't cover it gray on top and white on bottom, like I did!
