RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
Thanks for this thread, provided everything I needed, great help! Bought it new in December 2011, just got around to it this summer. About 3 hours on this engine now. 2-1/2 static break in. Little longer than I usually do, but it does me well & ending up with problem free, powerful engine(s). Zero issues with carb or ignition, just took awhile ( and some patience ) to "get it". Final adjustments now leaned out, very little oil blowing out the exhaust or vent. Sips fuel. *I liked the mess it made set rich, with the Keleo exhuast: darkened up the covering and made a very weathered look on the H9 Bluenose [:D] Idling steady at 1800 & getting 8500 w/ an APC 16x6 on the ground ( lost about 300 w/ Keleo, compared to stock ) But what a sweet and surprisingly very quiet sound. Nice scale speed with this prop. -Pulled the OEM plug at 3 hours, cleaned & checked gap, just fine at 0.026in, no wear on electrode or bar. Just needed a 20 min soak in WD40 and a stiff toothbrush to clean up like new. Just a touch of baked light tan, completely normal and good. It was a little bit fouled (wet sticky) from rich break in, but nothing too bad. -Pulled the valve covers and checked clearance: Intake was at 0.002in, exhaust at 0.0025in just fine, no need to touch. Now: after a good prime, she will hand start. 1-2 flips...every time! No kick. Throttle at 1 click up from idle. Slight sputter & into steady run. Warms up quickly, under a min. Great power. Great Engine ! About Bluenose? Mine=1st production run... read the thread, heed the thread, for sure, open up the wing bottoms and build up the retract areas as sugested ! But a nice flier after all said and done. Would I but another Bluenose...??? Not sure. Is it a one off cheapening on assembly error(s) & but hopefuly not a trend with H9 overall. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8623566/mpage_6/key_/tm.htm]Bluenose-retract pg[/link] *Running Evolution synthetic oil, as per manual 20:1

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
Maiden flight. Kit is from 1st batch from Horizon, just got around it this year. Overall experience: 8 out 10 1 issue: Retract support area not enough glue, no glue in important area(s) - -7 ch. 2.4 setup ( ailerons mixed ) y-harness; flaps & gear. -Saito FG20 w/ keleo exhuast, 16x6 apc plan to try 15x7, Keleo exhaust robbed about 200rpm (stock Saito 8600rpm, ground) -2x 6v 2700ma, NiMh -throws as per adendum. Rudder at high settings for both low & high rates. see horizon site for correct throws, original manual wrong. -Balance set by moving batteries. No wgts used. -Flaps set on 1 sec delay & slowed about 60% ( digital is so great ! ) Mods/changes: -Firewall re epoxied -tail wheel changed to Dubro scale 90-120 size. pull/pull on tailwheel -Fuel tank change to 11oz, moved rearward about 2-1/2 inches. -CG set at 4-1/2", w/ very slight nose down -Flaps set to 1/8" down -Ailerons set 1/16" up *forgot to reinforce retracts.. Take off: 4-5 mph headwind, 75 F, low humidity Allowed 300' of field. Flaps up. Rates low. Slow, slow steady application to throttle, tail up quickly guessing 5 mph, slight pull started to left just after that, easily corrected and maintianed with slight rudder. Light on gear about 15 mph, rotation at about 20 mph, slightly past 1/2 throttle. So about 175' of field used. Kept it level and straight easily, climb at about 30 degrees, 3/4 throttle. Raised gear, no change in flight. Shallow bank to left, tad bit rudder and elevator...smooth turn, no issues. Trim out, 3-4 clicks right aileron, 3-4 clicks nose down. 2-3 mid throttle-3/4 throttle passes. Steady and tracking like a bullet. Full throttle pass- slight climb as expected. Pulled a few hard turns, 70 degree bank, 3/4 on elevator stick, pressure on rudder just slight prior to elevator, smooth sharp and tracked well, nose remained level, no sign of stall or snap out. Landing, full flaps. Dropped in from 100' out & 100' up, chopped throttle to idle plus a couple clicks, nice smooth approach, no wobble (signs of stall), nice easy descent rate. Applied a little throttle to stretch landing on main only touch down, propably a little below 20mph. Very stable & smooth. Right landing gear tore out maybe 10' into roll out...VERY VERY WEAK, as touch down was not hard at all. ( I forgot to reinforce it as mentioned in this forum ) aaarrrggggg. Conclusion: Fly it like a warbird should be for take off & landing. She is very scalish for sure. Slow easy throttle, use your rudder. Keep your climb out steady and straight. Allow yourself a nice slow long approach. Fly it all the way, gently on low. Matter of fact, don't even bother with high rates ( except rudder for taxi reasons) Keep it scale. Wonderful flyer, once tweaked!

no pablum m8. They did that to keep the speed down & lift up when coupled w/ the droops, the 3 blade is a 10x4 also help ease the throttle management/speed, so you end up w/ slow or just a little faster than slow [:)] You could take the droops off also. Just tape holding them on. Easy to put back with a strip of scotch tape. When he's ready, knock out the 2oz flywheel on the propshaft, rebalance and stick an 11x7 on her.

RE: New Hanger 9 p-51 mustang **Trainer?!?**
Hi Hombre, guessing your intermediate flyer or more. Completely stock set up is very easy to fly. Max airspeed about 35 mph, very stable. It'll lift off around 14-15 mph. Keep it straight ahead, level till about 20 mph. Stall is about 17-18 mph. Trim out is easy and quick. She'll loop easy and slow, you be amazed how well it holds when going so slow. Rolls are tough all stock, wait till droops are off. Land it scale or just bring around on a short final and 3 point it. Just watch out not to get too slow, its decieving because it does fly well very slow. With droops, she will drop a wing, right side usually, but recovers very quickly and not too much alt is lost. With out droops, she just drops the nose, gains speed, recovers, drops nose,..... Gear are well forward, so she tracks well & hard to nose over on the ground.

I really only wanted the engine, but hey...need something to put it on [8|] http://www.keleo-creations.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_28&products_id=207 & a kyosho 50 size "Tony" not ready yet, stripped out the little 51 to move into the Tony. Looks different and have never tried Kyosho http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/HIEN-50_p_340.html Other than that, the H9 Fokker D.VII & the GP Fokker DR.1 still flying regular, the Tiffy was flying a ton last year, 18 lbs of heaven to fly, honestly what a plane! But a small hole in the field grabbed a main wheel on a fast landing and flipped her about. Fairly easy fix, have an auto shop buddy offering to repair ( it's 100% composite ) but parked for now. ( I'm pretty sure the hole was from a heli, that was planted nose first at speed [8|] ) Just picked up a good deal on a used RCV90 SP 2:1 reduction, so I'll try it on a Seagull Texan II Have heard good things about Seagull....But this will winter project or a emerg back up if we crash everything this season [:@] http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=SEA2565 http://www.rcvengines.com/rcv90sp.htm Almost ready to go, just need a week of sun to dry up the field... Hi Guys! How is everyone? Jeff, how is your son? I've stowed my pony in the rafters for awhile, needs a recover & some TLC... She'll be back for sure however. 4-1/2" back, measured from leading edge, beside the fuse. If you want a slightly more scale, less acrobatic feel, put the cg at 4-1/8". This slight nose heavy, smoothes out the flight controls a tad, not that its twitchy in anyway at 4-1-/2", just useful for new or nervous folks who may be heavy on the sticks. Flaps fixed or operational? Leading edge extensions on or off?

No, rotating won't be nessesary. As long as the lado were made for the this tiffy or "will fit" design, you should be ok. Once you get them test fit, sometimes pictures and the actual thing look different. Let us know how it turns out, i've been looking at new retracts maybe this year.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Just breaking in a FG-20. Sweet, sweet, sweet is all I can say. Question to put out there, as we have some debate around my place. When setting the high needle peak, do you run at wide open or do you pick a certain higher rpm, ie: 6500 rpm and peak from there ? One other question regarding the FG-20 specifically. -Any problems running just the cooling header w/o a muffler or flex exhaust: ( valve burn or other issue, due to lack of back pressure )?

Droping in to say hi to everyone, been a longgggg time. Changed my handle sometime back, beats me why but.... ( was wild-ccr ) Original pts yellowtail, arf version $ 125.00 bucks-remember that :-) Still flying, black tape holding down canopy, clear tape on all the leading edges; aileron, rudder and flaps on the rear edges, scoop almost bare. Retracts still work great, but every landing they need a push or pull to adjust the wire and yet it still keeps going & going & going....most importantly STILL FUN. I'll fly it in anything. Just watched Jeff's vid from last year :-) Keep meaning to recover it, but its always ready to go, just sitting there looking sad, but never needs anything other than fuel and off we go............. Hope your all well & flying ccr (glenn)

RE: YT KMP Hawker Typhoon
WOW is the best thing I can think of. Tuesday Evening: Taxi to center on grass runway. No flaps. 20c (68-69F) humidity about 60, steady breeze down runway 3-4 km (2mph)gentle gusts to about 7-8km(5mph). Started slow application of throttle, slight corrections as it built up speed, remained very straight. By about 100' elevator was at neutral, tail wheel up, just a slight bump to elev to correct a slight nose down, just a hint of rudder. Lifted off by itself about 200' and maybe 40kph(25 mph). Elev at 30% expo, still too touchy. Climbed at 30-35 deg. Pulled slightly to left as expected, but didn't lower wing. Needed 4-5 clicks of right trim to level wings, about 6 clicks to lower nose, no rudder trim needed. After leveling, it was climbing slightly, put gear up, still climbed a little. On the second pass, it was hands off, literally held them over my head to prove the crowd of nay sayers behind me, that it is NOT a brick. Perfect level & straight, just under 1/2 throttle about 80kmp (50 mph). Nose sinks slightly in bank turns as expected, blip of throttle corrects. Did not do much rudder work, but it is very effective. At 1/2 throttle, flaps deployed to 1/2, slight pop up, but settled back into level flight. Added a little throttle and deployed full flap. No rise and slight decease in speed. Dropped gear, remained level & a slight decrease in speed. To prove a point once more, another pass down center line 50' up , full flap, gear down, 1/2 T, hands off....... WONDERFULL I still have a smile on face today. Having so much fun, & forgetting to set the timer.....well...I ran her dry...Dead stick on down leg, 100' up, 200 out. Dropped nose, raised gear, raised flaps & started long shallow turn. Kept it turning until she was lined up with runway NO SIGNS OF STALL what so ever, leveled wings about 30' up and 75' out, kept nose ever so slightly down..... SHE JUST FLOATED IN, TOUCHED DOWN DOING ABOUT 20kmp (15 mph) maybe slightly faster, but VERY slow, no flaps, gear up, level with no signs of a stall .............[:D] [:@]Unfortunately it was 20' shy of the runway, in 18" tall wet grass(hay) Tried to flare it just as it went in, but tall grass kept it from flare. Broke a prop, 1/2" crack in chin bottom and shattered the rad. Thats it, not even one more scratch. If only I could describe the look on the faces behind me! that quieted the crowd.... 18 lbs...she'll never fly, she'll be a brick..if you loose engine it'll fall straight down.. land her at speed or you'll.....[8|] HA ! Back to field as soon as I replace fuel tank w/ larger. 14 ounce now, but the 35 seems to be a fuel hog, so we'll go bigger, lots of room still. Have the same prop but in 6 pitch, We'll give it a try also. Thanks for designing such a great plane KMP/YT !!! Hope you are proud of it as you should be & I am ! * The 9303 has 3 position flap toggle & flap delay settings from 0 to 2 seconds. So deploy to 1/2 flap take 2 seconds, then to full is another 2. Going directly from 0 to full is 4 seconds.

Zinger Pro 14x8 One of my favorite flyers. Crank the aileron throws and be sure to use your rudder for some decent rolls, but be high, they are not tight and small. Loops well, get some speed 1st. Low & slow passes down the runway middle are really nice to see, just floating along at less than 1/4 throttle. High yo yo with full rudder at apex is really nice, tail comes around quick and smooth. Hi Tom, Well after the intial gitters & knee shake, it flys extremely well. 2 dozen or so flights this past summer. I find a little wind is very helpful landing. Zero wind and she likes to glide in ground effect forever :-) Lower wing on mine is holding up well. Its usually just a last few feet as she comes to a stop that it wanders( grass field ) 1/2 throttle is the highest I usually use, mostly buzzing around at 1/4 T Even the heli guys stop to watch it [:D]

Robart type hinges on all, not the cheapy, white "too small" type either, nice size-appropriate for where used. Internal flap linkage. Its a BEAUTIFUL bird for sure! More to come.....[;)]

If you have room above the engine, ( guessing it mnt'ed inverted ) you could add an engine mount or two, to use as an attachment point to add weight or make a box to place the weight in ? or bolt weight to sides of current engine mount? **Hit the local fishing store, great selection of lead wgt's in all kinds of shapes & weights.
