mamba 25 trouble
... this is a paste of an email i sent to castle... I'm really scratching my head now. I gave up on tweeking around with the settings on the castle link, I tried everything you recominded and nothing worked. So I installed my airplane system in my 1/18 buggy, and I let my brother use my radio system for his car. He ras an RC18B with the exact same mamba 25 set up in it, and his worked fine all day. and so did mine, except for the fact that I didnt have brakes or reverse using my air system. So last night I took both of our Mamba 25 ESC's out and made sure they had the current firmware and the latest addition software, infact I think I upgradded to the latest software just before hand. And now THEY BOTH DONT WORK! Can you belive that? I feel like Im loosing my mind. It doents matter what dead band setting, or reverse setting its on, even with reverse off, they both quit at random times and rapidly blink red and orange at the same time and nothing stops it but time, severl seconds, like 15 seconds or more. Then all I get is a little beep when its ready again. I dont know if its re arming or what. The stearing continues to work during its little freak out. What in the world is happeneing? I used to think it was the ESC, then I thought It was the transmiter, then I though it was a ESC set-up problem... Now I'm starting to think It's the new software update! The fact that my brothers esc was fine untill I updated it tells me that. But why would that happen. I was almost fine with having to get a new esc, but my brother isnt going to understand his not working now. At first running everything works fine, brake to reverse, to brake to forward all no problem. It almost like it only acts up after it gets warm, over 100 degrees. Are we having heat issues? Is there an over heat cut off feature? If so, i bet thats it! But I'm not running real hard. Running 3S, but I'v never seen temps over 130 degrees...unless my bats are low. Help! Thanks Have a good one, Josh Reynolds

RE: rc18b
I love Castle Creations ESC's Enyone will tell you they're prob the best. Awesome customer service and warranty. The best thing is you can get the deal its called the Castle Link. and you hook up the esc to your computer, it comes with software, and set up and customizations is a snap! around $25 bucks, sure beats the heck out of programming the old way!

Also, I dont know the KV. It doesnt say on the end of the can like I'm used to seeing... I'm kinda wondering if its even Mamba... no no it has to be because the castle link recognizes it..... right?

I used to live in Vancouver WA. I miss the summers there. Too f ing hot here. The guy before me doesnt seem to know much about it. I'm having issues finding a spot for my lipo at all. I'm gonna prob have to either do something deastic with the set-up, or totally ghetto rig some zip ties to hold the lipo in place. For now, untill i get done with testing its taped to the wing lol

The car is a Kyosho Inferno Half8 buggy. Running the mamba 25 with a new but cheap 15C 11.1V 1800mah lipo with Deans. Gearing...no clue

Got me a Mamba 25 issue
Frequently, but mostly after I try to brake, I get a steady red flash from the ESC not allowing any throttle either way, but the stearing still works. After 10 seconds or so, it kicks off and i get orange steady light, and I can go again. What in the World is up with this thing? I've tried all the settings. I have the usb deal for it. You may think it sounds like its on that setting, I forget what its called, that makes you wait 2 seconds till reverse starts, but thats not it. The simptoms seemed like they got worse as the run went on. At first it only happened, or at least i thought, when i tried to apply brake (and brake has hardly work at all btw) but then it was almost any time the car came to a complete stop. While rolling forward, and not applying any break didnt bring on the symptoms. Like I said, it would go off on a tangent and blink red rapidly and offer no throttle or reverse response at all, only stearing. 10 or so seconds, all slightly different waiting times, and solid orange would come on then off you go... Thoughts? copy your comment to my email if you can reynoldsroofing@yahoo.com thanks guys

cool good advice. Although. I just figured out with this small little buggy body... I cant fit a stick pack in sideways anyway. If anyone can fond a lipo set up for this model, that would be awasome

How you I remove something thats held on by hot glue?
I just picked up a little Kyosho mini inferno 1/16 scale half 8 w/mamba 25. I assumed it took a 3S pack, but instead it has two little spots that looks like maybe 3x3x3/4" is all, kinda wierd. I think I may have room to run the pack over these little areas but the last guy looks like Hot Glued on the ESC to the frame. So to even play with moving things around, i need to get that free. Any thoughts? thanks

The two slot it alows for look like maybe 3" x 3" x 3/4".... very odd. Pretty much rules out my 3S 1 pac. Do I need to run two tiny 3S in parellel or what?

Electrical Fire !! Yikes
Picked up a used RedCat Rampage MT from mopar-jake, love it. Nicely set up, new condition. Got it all hooked up, i thought right, all the testing went fine. I took the fail safe out because I didnt know how to install it, and added my little voltage meter. and installed my brand new DX3s radio system. About 15 minutes of fun play, i felt a little slugishness in the response, so I walked over and noticed my voltage meter was badly smoking, and smoke was also pooring out of the reciever lid cracks. I killed everything and found that pretty much averything was fried and melted to eachother. Could I have hooked up a neg to pos and or vice versa? Seems like if I;d have done that it wouldnt work right away. The first thing that was different about this install was the dirrections that jake sent me for the 1/4scale servo, it came with a y harness and said it needed to be hooked up straight to the rx pack, cool, fine, hooked it up accorning to the dirrections, except that I was using an on and off switch. What in the world happened. ???? I was thinking that the volt meter wasnt rated for that many volts and fried taking everything else with it for a fifteen minute burn. But I could still read the top of it, it showed good for 4.8V-6.0V Help me out guys, I dont want this to happen again Thanks in advance -JOSH

Could use a little advice on next airplane choice
My first plane was a ParkZone Typhoon 2 RTR, and I liked it a good bit, then lost interest I guess and gave it to my little brother. A year or so went by and I build a slow stik, I was real proud of it, but I live in Texas and there is ALWAYS about a 5-10mph wind.... I really think I set it all up right, but with an ever blowing wind, the thing handled like crap. Always wanting to fly down wind. So, I want something else. Something that doesnt take a lot of room to take off and land, electric, good at slow speed, but'll haul if you want it to, ability for 3D and hover would be nice. I've been eyeballing something like the mini pulse... Im up for suggestions on models, and how much and where to find em thanks guys

It was only a foot or so of water, but every inch of electronics was submerged. I was planning on letting everything dry out for the night and start testing in the morning. Any suggestions?

RE: First 1/5 scale truck.
SavageJim, nice advice thanks ok, that makes since, duh ya there's no spark to kill on a nitro model is there. I havent looked at my radio in a while its a Spektrum DX3S, thats pretty cool that you can hook it up right to the radio. I briefly looked at killerRc,, and man there are so many options, and prices. What package do you go with? So, your saying the failsafe settings on the radio arent trust worthy? I agree with everyone on that DX3S flyaway that It wasnt the radio system falure. Its more likely for a linkage problem, low rx bat, or servo failure huh?

RE: 3.3
If its dying right after you remove the easy start... That tells me your glow plug is gone. Its easy to do during break in. Test your glow plug by tlighting them up with a glow ignitor out of the engine. (Get a Glow ignitor, the traxxas easy starts dont provide a very strong current to the plug) Dont bother messing with the low end adjustment untill the motor is fully broken in and the high speed needle adjustment is set up just right and tuned in. Lots of blue smoke indicates a Rich Fuel mixture, which is ideal for break in. If you havent messed with the high speed needle at all then good, leave it alone untill the third tank or so. If you Have jacked with the high speed setting from factory, get it back to the recominded factory break in setting Hope this helps, Good Luck, feel free to PM me -Josh

RE: starter box power???
I dont know how many engines you've broken in, and you may have heard all of this before, but sometimes those brand new motors are a bugger to get to free up enough to turn over, when they've never started up I've heard Traxxas and some other engine makers heating the engines up a little with a heat gun first to loosen them up. Also lube it up with some WD-40 and try turning it by hand somehow, or with a pipe wrench with a rag so you dont tear up your flywheel. (This with the engine out of coarse) Also, you could rig up some way to attach your drill to it, to get it spinning a little before trying to start it, that might free it up just enough for your starter to later get the job done for you
