RE: New 70mm F-117 with Retracts
ORIGINAL: Jr. Birdman Gents, Taxied at the field today, but no problems from the ESC or BEC! However, I'm afraid to take it up for fear of control loss with this unprodictable ESC/ BEC unit. Guess I'll try to get ahold of BH tomorrow and see if they'll send me ''good'' ESC/ BEC unit. From eveyone at the field, they've determined that it's either the ESC or the attached BEC causing my problem. From what I gather, the battery is dropping below whatever V the BEC is set at, turning off my Rx. [X(] JP, how'd you get into yours to pull the electronics??? I tried pulling the square block that covers the fan unit, but seemed stuck. didn't want to pull too hard and ''bust up'' the airframe. This stinks!!!!! Brand new plane and I'm already making repairs. B.
Jr. I just used a thin blade like a carving blade and slid it along the seams. It is a tight fit and the paint sticks in places too. The fan is glued to the top of the fuse, so the block comes out leaving everything inside. I also pulled the fan as it appears to only be hot glued in on mine. I have mine buttoned back up to try again or I would take some pics for you.

RCLander Panther
My Panther showed up last week and is finally ready to maiden (hopefully this weekend). There were so many versions and options I couldn't keep track of them all. Lucky for me I made contact with Max at Parkrcmodels and he walked me through the options. I went with the PVC version, with flaps, oleo retracts, gear doors, a 6S fan systems, and upgraded servos. The factory did most of the work for me. I also finished my Starmax 70mm F-5E this week also. The Panther with it's 2 3S 3000 flightmax packs feels like a brick compared the F-5, lol. Here are some pics. I will try to get video of the test flight, too.

RE: 9303 problem
Talked to Horizon today. I've got to send it back, bummer. I had to get out my old PCM 10 and XPS stuff, just to have something to fly until I get it back.

9303 problem
I got out my 9303 to bind up a Spektrum 7000 rx and noticed the battery was down to 8.8 volts. I had flown it over the weekend with no problems and know it was not that low. I charged it all night and when I went out to check on it the voltage was only 9.8 volts. I assumed the battery was bad so I replaced it with one from another transmitter. It read 10.6 volts, however, within a few minutes (5-6) the low voltage alarm was going off again. I took the battery out and recharged it, but within a few minutes it was low voltage again. I put that battery back into the original transmitter and charged it and it now is working fine. Is it possible that the 9303 has some problem that is discharging the battery that fast? I had it about 1 year. Please advise.

RE: New 70mm F-117 with Retracts
ORIGINAL: Jr. Birdman Lynn, Thank you for your reply. May just ground test tomorrow as life seems to get in the way of my obsession. Using a Futaba TX and having trouble figuring out the V-tail mixing. I've got elevator, but no rudder. Any clues??? I'll find a magic marker and hit the scuffs. Thanks again, B.
On mine the two tail servos were on a y harness to elevator. The nosewheel steering went into the rudder slot. I am still considering re-rigging and going v-tail as having a rudder could come in handy with some of the crosswinds we've been having lately. Did you rerun the servo extensions to the tail and if so how did you do it? Also, on the throws, I got about 5/8ths on the ailerons, but they are a little touchy.
ORIGINAL: Jr. Birdman Guys, Plane's here! After careful inspection, I'm a little disapointed. Some broken parts and dings in foam. Hopefully, I can PM Pete to see if he'll replace the broken parts. Took pictures as I inspected everything, so he'll know what's broken. Otherwise, I'm stoked about my new adventure in EDF. As soon as I get my transmitter back from Futaba, and either glue the parts or get replacements, I'll be ready to go.
Shipping damage always sucks. I hope you get it resolved. I am having an issue with the motor cutting out in mine. I thought it chunked a bearing, so I pulled the fan in my workshop. Stuck on a battery and it ran like a top. No clue what's going on. I buttoned it back up and will try again this weekend. I guess I've got the edf bug bad now as my Lander Panther with all the options (6S wooohoooo) and Starmax F5 are both supposed to be delivered Friday!

I am loaded up and ready to go to the field. Looked outside and it's raining....ggrrrrrrrr. Sounds like you guys are getting close. Hope you get them in the air soon. I noticed the B-2 is in also. In that thread they got their tracking numbers, but packages hadn't moved as of yesterday. At any rate, get some video if you can.

RE: New 70mm F-117 with Retracts
Okay, you guys get busy and get this one in the air. The build should take all of a couple of hours at most. Put your batteries on charge while you are building and you should be good to go. The retracts need some attention on throws etc., and make sure all the set screws are tight. Get some flight video.

Yep, I understand too. Just thought it was worth mentioning if you are tired of waiting. I'm hoping to get mine out again this weekend. We need some cooler weather as the temp on the tarmac last Sunday was 120 degrees F. These things sure get noticed when you fly them. I hope you get them flying soon.

RE: New 70mm F-117 with Retracts
Got some flying in today. 120 degrees on the tarmac! I had one small problem or two. I couldn't get it to track straight enough to get into the air. I discovered one of the mains had twisted so that I had toe out on the gear. I readjusted and tried again, but the motor would just chatter. I took it into the shade to see what was up and after a minute or two, it was fine again. I'm thinking maybe the esc was too hot inside an all black airframe on a 120 degree runway? At any rate, I took it back out on the runway with straight gear, and got it airborne. This flight I actually remembered to drop the bombs! Other than the one main twisting, the gear seems to be fine, but I really haven't tested them, as this is easy to land. I am happy with mine.

Lynn, Sorry to hear of your loss. I know exactly what you are referring to. I'm pretty sure one of the vendors had an airframe only kit. We had 4 edf's at our field yesterday and know of at least 2 more on the way. These things sure are addictive, lol.

RE: New 70mm F-117 with Retracts
Just got in from the field. Finally got some flight time with my nighthawk. It is an easy flyer. Take offs and landings almost as easy as a trainer. Not gonna win any speed contests but neither would the full scale one, lol. Orientation was a bit tricky, but not too bad, just stay focused. For my tried old eyes, coming directly at me was the hardest. Mine tended to float a bit in ground effect. Overall, I'm very happy with it. The only down side was after the landing turned to taxi back and one mains wasn't locked down. I readjusted the linkage which is critical, a few mm either way makes all the difference. Keep it in close, set the timer for about 3.5 minutes and have fun.

This picture is of the balancers I use. The common sense one will work with the TP's but requires a special adapter.

RE: New 70mm F-117 with Retracts
The hobby king batteries use a JST-XH balance plug. It is totally different from the TP plug. I use a separate balancer (from Common Sense RC). It works with most batteries, but will not work with the TP's. I use a TP 205V for my TP batts, but Common Sense has an adapter for the TP also.

That's about what I am getting. After 3 1/2 to 4 minutes of flying time, I put back 1800 to 1900 mah. If the weather would co-operate, I could get in some more flying time, lol.
