RE: Hangar 9 30cc P-47 Build Thread
John R. I am intrigued as to how you finished off your scale wheels on the P-47 thread. How did you paint the six dark black cutout portions in the otherwise silver wheels? Did you mask the wheel off or does the wheel disassemble so that you can easily paint the inside of the wheel? Are these Robart wheels? I see this type of scale upgrade applicable to the wheels on most all WWII aircraft and many jet airplanes as well. Thanks for your article. I look forward to the remaining sections as they come along. Your fit and finish on the whel wells and gear doors is superb. John Tonkinson Southington, CT

Landing with Crow
Hello all, I have a GP Giant Big Stik with flaps and ailerons with separate servos for each. I would like to try a dive bomber type landing using a crow set up (throttle at idle, flaps down, ailerons up). Theoretically, this set up will allow the airplane to be pointed straight down without building up airspeed. Any hints on whether this really works? Also, when you pull level in order to land, do you take out the crow set up or do you leave it in all the way to touch down? I will try this technique two mistakes high before I try to actually land out of the maneuver. However, any suggestions as to what altitude above the ground you need to start to level out? Thanks for any help on this. I haven't been able to find any videos on this which would help a great deal. One picture can be worth a thousand words. John T.

Acceptable propeller size OS 160
Hello all, I have a GP Giant Big Stik ready to go with an OS 160 two stroke for power. The engine specialist who broke the engine in said that an 18 X 6 propeller should be used for sport flying. An 18 X 6 prop leaves very little ground clearance on our grass flying field. I will go to 4 inch wheels (from 3.5) if I have to. I was wondering what smaller diameter prop would be acceptable for sport fling? I am using this plane as a third airplane that I can play with by using the flaps. Extra speed is not important with this airplane combo, since the OS 160 makes more than enough power as it is. Would a 17 X 8 prop be OK? How about a 17 X 8 W? I would like to get a low, reliable idle out of this engine. Would an 18 X 6 idle slower than a 17 X 8 prop? Thanks for your help. John T.

Quiet muffler on an OS 1.60
Hello all, I am installing an OS 1.60 in a Great Planes Giant Big Stik, following the instruction manual. The engine will be mounted sideways so that the muffler will be at the bottom of the airplane, Since there is no cowl to be concerned about, what is the quitest muffler that I can use on this engine? I am not concerned about maximum power, if some rpms are lost due to the muffler's design it will not affect my sport flying at all. I wear two hearing aids and I am sensitive to rc engine sounds. THe quietest muffler I can find would be much appreciated. John T.

How to set throws in the transmitter's program?
Hello all, I am confused as to how to correctly set servo throw in the transmitter's program. Some say to set the throw in the radio to 100%, set the linkage for high rates, the set the low rate in the program to something less, such as 80%. Others say to set the program to 150% for high rates, set the linkage for high rates, and the set the low rates in the program to 120% or so. Can servos actually move another 50% of their throw or is this only something to do with resolution? Why not set the program throws to 100% for low rates and 125% for high rates? I suspect that this may be important stuff and I would greatly appreciate some input. Thanks for your time. John T.

Loose exhaust extension
Hello all, I can't seem to get the flexible exhaust deflector on my OS 46 muffler to stay on. The engine is mounted upright in a Sig Kadet Senior. The deflector is a tiny bit too large in diameter to fit snugly over the OS muffler exit. I have tried a plastic wire tie along with some RTV silicone, but the coonection is still not tight. The deflector is the correct one for my size engine. I have cleaned the muffler exit with alcohol. Simple Green, paint thinner, acetone, you name it. Nothing seems to help. Anyone have any suggestions. i need to deflect the exhaust downward away from the wing/fuselage. Thanks for your help. JohnT
