RE: Airbrush advice
I saw this today while doing some shopping : [link]http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/6/Tools/1/CompressorsAirTools/Compressors/PRD~0587936P/Mastercraft%2B2-Gallon%2BAir%2BCompressor%2Bwith%2BAccessories.jsp[/link] It is currently in special at 69.99$. I was able to plug it and hear it : the noive level is very good, maybe not the lowest one but good enough for me. I think the tank is an advantage. It misses a water trap but I could add one. Will it be good for airbrushing ? I can buy one and test it, they offer a 30 days full refund. JP

RE: Airbrush advice
Unfortunately, there is no Hobby Lobby store in Canada (according to the website). Towerhobbies have them both and I think I have some coupons. A quick look to the local store shows that it will cost 580 $CDN (545 $USD) for the kit. Overpriced, if you ask me.

RE: M1A1 Abrams RC Tank with Abrams Sounds!
ORIGINAL: pattoncommander Great job Phil. Finally an RC tank that sounds like the real one. Nice to see the main gun fire without that sick HL full tank hiccup. What's the price tag on the completed Abrams?
This is the tank I'm looking for! I second pattoncommander : what is the price for the complete modded tank ?

RE: Airbrush advice
Thank you all! This is more information that I would hope. I spent some times last night reading the link that Dmon1996 gave. For want I can understand, any airbrush in the 100$-200$ will be good (for me). It seems that Badger is easy to find in my local shops. So I will certainly take it. Other choices (like Paasche, Iwata and Vega) will have to be ordered. In one of my local shops, they give free beginner lesson : this will help me to have a good start. For the compressor, the choice is not easy : I live in a flat and the noise will have to be minimum. Iwata Smart Jet has good reviews and some of you recommanded it. I hope to find it locally to really listen for the noise level. I'm sure that any compressor from hardware store will be impossible to use (wife will not allow this). JP

Airbrush advice
I know my question may be not in the right forum but as it is related to painting tank, I decided to post it where the knowledge is :) I would like to buy an airbrush kit and a compressor. At first, the Testors Mighty Mini was a good and cheap choice to start. But after reading some reviews it seems to be too cheap. The Blue Mini also. So I was looking for Iwata but prices are not in my budget. I'm a little lost and I'm asking for your advice for a good kit (or parts) in the 100-200$ range (maybe a little more). I plan to use it for RCs (tank, lexan body) and plastic model kits (mostly military, starting back after a 20 years break). Any advice will be welcome. Thank you for your help. JP

#1260 is a spray can, #1160 is a small paint pot. I will shake it well next time. Thanks for the advice.

RE: Post some links please???
Speaking of dullcote, I tried it (#1160) on my Bulldog and found it have a gloss finish. I'm surprized because you all seems to get a matt finish. So I went back to Testors 4636.

I hope to upgrade my gun but I know I will have a hard time to find all the hardware needed especially spring and barrel. So if anyone is ready to put altogether and sell a kit, I will be the first to buy one. What is the best way to get a barrel ?

RE: Mato 2000mah battery capacity
ORIGINAL: bubbajoexx when batteries are in series the burst current avalable is reduced by the number of batteries in series as the current passing though the batteries is under resistance
how do you calculate this loss ? Just curious to know. I play with batteries for several years now and it's the first time I read this. In the present post I think that the problem is in an unbalanced pack. Something pretty common with cheap cells. I stopped using nimh or nicd the first time I tried lipo. My best move ever.

RE: Mato 2000mah battery capacity
ORIGINAL: bubbajoexx the 2000 mah is the raiting for one cell only when you place cells in series the current is decreased by the number of cells and voltage increases so if you have 1100 mah count your self lucky and the count on the charger is never acurate
Can you explain what you want to mean ? Current [you mean capacity in mAh?] does not change because you add cell. Also new charger are very accurate.

Upgrades for Bulldog ?
So, I have received my Bulldog from Mato. I did the breaking and started to play with. This is fun but I think it will be much more fun playing with other tanks. I'm looking for a club here in Montreal. Meanwhile, I have some questions about possible upgrades : - I find my gearbox very noisy. Is the 3:1 Gearbox more silent ? Or is there anything to do to limit the noise ? - Does replacing the stock speaker a good upgrade ? - Looking for a IR battle system. Is the DBC-DBU a good choice for Heng Long ? Thank you for your help. Cheers, JP

RE: IR Emitter in Mantlet
How do you achieve a good alignment with the barrel ? I mean the tube (with the LED) seems to only be attached to the mantlet by the LED itself. So it may move a little during driving. Also, how to you now the good polarity for the LED ? A hidden mark somewhere ?

RE: Modern area tank ?
ORIGINAL: BarkingSquirrel Get a Heng Long Bulldog. Its a good runner, its as modern as you're going to get without dishing out cash and if you later decide you don't like tanking, then hey - you didn't spend alot(most of which you can recoup selling it) - so no big deal.
This is the way I will take next week.

RE: Modern area tank ?
ORIGINAL: philipat Several of the HL tanks have quite a few upgrade options that are made and sold by 3d party vendors. Unfortunately, the Bulldog is one of those tanks with lots of upgrade options. It's great tank and I enjoy running it. But, if you're looking for the expansive options available like those available for HL's Tiger or PzIII, then you'll be disappointed.
I know that the Bulldog have less options but I don't like the German tanks.

RE: Modern area tank ?
ORIGINAL: BarkingSquirrel If you want hobby grade, you really only have 3 options for a modern tank at this time. 1) Buy a Tamiya Leopard 2A6. 2) Buy a Hobby Engine M1 and the AFV Model lower hull kit for it, you won't need any other reliability upgrades. 3) Buy a Chunwai, they make all metal M1's and M-60's.
This is over my budget. I'm not sure if I will like driving a tank : I tested a crawler and it was definitively to slow for me. So I want to start with something cheaper and see if I get fun (not with the speed but with the firing stuff). And maybe after, I will step-up to one of your option.

RE: Modern area tank ?
ORIGINAL: sir_francis M1 Abrams is produced by Hobby Engine. It needs some upgrades to be turned into a realistic rc battle tank. Francis
I have read that Hobby Engine is toy grade and not hobby grade. I don't want this. Also HL seems to have more upgrade available. But maybe I wrong. Any links for modding/upgrading those Hobby Engine ? Anyway I will google on this. Thank you Francis. JP

Modern area tank ?
Hello all, I plan to buy a RC tank soon. I'm a noob with this class of vehicule but I own several RC trucks, cars, boat and helis. I'm very estonish that there is not so much tanks from the modern area in the 1/16 scale. Why is that ? Any manufacturer plans to release one soon ? I know Tamiya has a Leopard 2 but any Abrams, Leclerc or Challenger 2 somewhere ? Meanwhile, I will take a Walker Bulldog S&S from Mato and I have some questions : - is-it possible to have airsoft and IR installed on the same tank ? - anyone tried a brushless setup ? Thank you for your time. Regards, Jean-Philippe

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
ORIGINAL: transam388 I know this is a little late after other replies but I used Hexcrews stuff before and really was not impressed. They said hardened and yes they were Hex but just seemed as soft as butter and always seemed to strip. I had to constantly use a dremel to cut a channel down the center of the head and then use a flat head screwdriver to get the thing out. Anyhow, for their price I just was not to impressed with Hexcrews. Maybe others have had good luck with them but I did not. Just letting you know. [;)]
I took the A.P. (armour plated) ones and didn't have any trouble so far. I also tested one RC Raven kit for E-Savage and it was the worst buy I ever made : the steel used was so soft that I stripped ALL the screws I tried to put.
