RE: Brushless motor selection help
Well no the color doesn't matter to me. I already have the 44x65 2400kv motor I used to power my Summit but took it out in favor of the Dewalt conversion. The mounting holes on both motors are the same even. I think ill go with the 36mm can at 2800kv though just for easier fitment. Do you know if the vxl ran hot in these? I had a Tacon 36x50 3500kv motor in there and it got pretty toasty on 19t pinion and 54t spur. That's why I'm considering the larger motor, to keep things cooler while providing similar performance, it was only 112 degrees yesterday. And I changed the esc so now I can run 4s :).
ORIGINAL: Foxy Yeh, sorry about that, I was bored at work. lol. Bottom line here is it's impossible to tell, and you can't really go wrong with either. If one were to be better for the application it would be by a miniscule margin. If there were a significant difference in efficiency, that would easily make the decision for you, are you able to get hold of the efficiency ratings?
Without looking again I believe they do in fact show the rating around 89-94% for both.

RE: Brushless motor selection help
ORIGINAL: Foxy
ORIGINAL: pyromatic177 I think you may have confused this poor dude with all that math LOL. but what does the larger one do compared to the smaller?
I only mentioned it because he drew the conclusion that they were of a similar size by adding the dimensions, which under the circumstances and considering the small and similar numbers involved would seem reasonable. I wanted to point out why it was immediately apparent to me which motor was the larger (by no small margin) and therefore 'could' have the higher potential (as savagecommander correctly pointed out (and fwiw, I agree with his post in its entirety) when he said that it may indicate larger windings, etc), however, this is pure speculation, the physically smaller motor could well be better for the application. I like long cans myself :)
Kudos to you for doing th math. I understood why you were pointing it out because like you said it turns out to be a fairly substantial size difference.

RE: Brushless motor selection help
ORIGINAL: savagecommander honestly, by the numbers both motors should produce the exact same torque per ampere value. an advantage would occur if the 44mm motor either had more windings of thicker wire to increase maximum amp capacity, or a larger rotor. then again the extra length of the 36mm motor may be a perfect balance between the two, and the manufacturer made two versions of the same motor, one to fit in chassis with length limitations.
This is exactly what I was asking. Thank you very much. Not to say the first reply was useless, just didn't answer my question the way I was hoping. I thank you both for your input.

Brushless motor selection help
I was curious if any could tell me, if there would be a torque difference between two different motors. Details: Motor 1 = 2400kv 36x74 Motor 2 = 2400kv 44x65 The reason I have this question is I'm looking for the motor with the most torque and would like to stay at that kv rating. I was told that both length and diameter add to a motors torque. The two motors I have listed, both are around 110mm length plus width. So which one do you get? Note: Motors are from same manufacturer, same # of polls and will be run on the same gearing and cell count. Thanks for all your help!

RE: Am I just having bad servo luck!?!
Turned out to be a bad servo. It failed and caused major amp draw from the other. The second one is good and didn't get hot. I got a refund for the one and just ordered a Savox that I'll do a single servo with. Its 416 oz. Ill install tomorrow and update if anyone is interested.

RE: Am I just having bad servo luck!?!
ORIGINAL: BuschBarber
ORIGINAL: Rodney You may be driving your servos to the limit of their movement and stalling them out. If you have undue friction or stall the servo it will draw excessive current (even if the voltage is well within limits) and can burn out the servo. Make sure you are not driving them to the limit stops or stalling them out or have excessive friction anywhere in the travel range.
Measuring the Current Draw of the servos will help answer that question.
I'm going to charge my lipos and make sure everything is correct then try again today. Otherwise, I already bought a Savox SA-1283SG, that should take care of my problems anyway.

RE: Am I just having bad servo luck!?!
ORIGINAL: BuschBarber
Are you sure that the servos are receiving the proper voltage? Can you hook up a Wattmeter or an Hangar 9 Current meter and check to see what the Current Draw and the Voltage is for each servo, especially when they get Hot?
I'm not sure I'm just trusting the internal BEC which is 6v. I have a volt meter, not sure if I can monitor watts. Have a link to what I need?

Am I just having bad servo luck!?!
I've bought 3 servos for a truck of mine (Traxxas Summit 1/10), and two of the 3 are getting REALLY hot with very little use. Is it possible that my receiver is bad and doing something to the servos? Also, I am not overheating them, the specs are more than enough for my application.
ORIGINAL: wanna_be_racer Looks to be an HPI MT2 or HPI RS4 maybe. But idk if those are 4wd like this one. Hard to tell honestly. But it's not the HPI Nitro Firestorm, or HPI Storm. The storm didn't have a front bumper like that nor was it 4wd. Converting it might be tricky, if you don't wanna do alot of custom work and are looking for bolt-ons. RE: Help with ID please?
Well I have an idea for the motor mount already so we'll see. I know it's 8th scale because in the picture it is slightly longer than the Exceed Titan it's sitting buy. And if by "Storm" it means Firestorm it looks remarkably close to what HPI shows as the Firestorm, BUT that's why I'm hear I don't know much about nitro or HPI. If it is the Firestorm, how well do the diffs and shafts hold up? I noticed your sig says that yours screams.

I'm looking to convert a nitro truggy/buggy/sct into brushless and found this as a roller. What is it and will it handle a decent brushless motor? The add says "Storm"

Looking to get into Scalers
I'm strong into on/off road vehicles and have the urge to buy a scaler. I've been watching a lot of videos on youtube of them and am falling in love! I'm not looking to spend a lot of money as it's my first one and want to get my feet wet although I don't want a piece of crap. Most like interested in a roller to keep cost down and I have a lot of spare electronics. Thanks for any input.

RE: Is this the ESC problem?
ORIGINAL: SyCo_VeNoM loose wire, short, bad controller chip, pretty much a ton of things. Never had the issue personally, but I remember reading a few threads where people had similar problems like you, and when they changed servos it went away. BUT then again same issues could happen on the ESC. My way is just a cheaper check then ordering a new ESC just to discover the same issue. And seeing you have 2 radios I'm assuming you have a 2nd RC you can borrow a servo from so the test should be free ;)
I think I might have gotten it!! Bad battery... I changed out to a spare 10 scale servo I had and same problem was there, then I thought crap, it's the esc. I remembered I had just bought a 2s lipo for my boys truck that I mini deans on and shoved that on the esc connector. I SEEMED TO WORK! I just did little tests on my work bench, I will mess with it more to ensure I'm not missing something. Thanks for all the input!!!

ESC, motor and battery stock. Battery was resting at 7.33volts. Radio/receiver was Spektrum DX3 and a Flysky 2.4 system, both with same results.
