RE: Any field data on JR 1222 rx in large jets?
I have the 1222 in my Kingcat. No problems. Really like the dual inputs and also the four separate satellite receivers. I keep a data logger in the jet permanently and check my numbers every flight. My numbers so far (~ 12 flights, 12 min each) have been: Fades: 0 - 30 on all satellites. The highest I've seen is 55 on one satellite. Frame losses: zero. Holds: zero. That definitely inspires confidence! I did the "advanced" range check before the first flight and identified a questionable satellite. It showed 999 fades during the range check. Using the data logger I quickly isolated it to the one satellite and got low numbers when I switched it out. I sent the questionable satellite back. I love the ability to "see" these types of potential problems. I'm using A123's (two 2300's) and am using on the order of 150 mah per pack per flight. Let me know if you have any specific questions. RE: KC/P160SX First Flights
John, No ... I am not seeing this. Maybe something to look for in the future though. I would think that tuning the fuel flow settings during startup would help out, per Cgroen and Vincent. I had a BMT 120KS a few years ago that from time to time I had to adjust the settings to prevent a flamey startup. Different technology here, but same concept. Let us know if you have any luck tuning it out. All I get now are small (1 - 3 inch long) wispy flames during ramp up that are not unlike what you might see on propane start engines during ramp up. RE: KC/P160SX First Flights
Got three more flights this afternoon ... I'm averaging 275 - 300 mah or so per start/run on 10 - 12 minute flights. I'm using 2300 mah A123's. Every start has been very smooth and the transition from low to mid to high throttle is also very smooth. A long time turbine flyer and JC owner has commented a number of times how smooth this engine is vs previous JC's. I'm really liking this the P160SX with kero start! I'm averaging about 250 mah total (125 mah per pack) per flight on the two 2300 mah A123 receiver batteries. I've got 8611A's all the way around on flight surfaces except 8411's on flaps. JR 1222 receiver. My fades are less than 50 per flight on all receivers with most of them less than 15. Zero frame losses and holds. Thanks Bob, Horizon, and JC for great products! JS

RE: KC/P160SX First Flights
Hey Bob ... looking forward to meeting you at Pensacola. I'm not using voltage regulators ... two A123's straight into the two 1222 "powersafe" leads. Trailing link struts are good so far ... not the prettiest thing with the big spring but functional. Only thing I don't like is that when the gear is retracted the gear doors stick out further than with the normal struts ... again, no huge deal but I'm a little picky that way. I fly off a lot of grass so it'll be worth it for the functionality. I haven't messed with my smoke yet ... plan to this weekend. I have my nose gear trim on the left trim switch so I'm not sure yet what I will use for the smoke. Maybe the left slider?? I don't want to use the right trim so I don't have to use a finger on hand on the right stick. We'll see. You gotta give Joey a call and talk him into going to Pensacola since he's a Floridian now anyway! Jamie

KC/P160SX First Flights
I maidened my new KC yesterday with a JC P160SX. Every start on the SX has been smooth and uneventful so far ... about 10 starts total. Very impressed with it and seems to be an excellent match to the KC. I'm going back out Sunday to log a few more flights so if anyone has any specific questions about the engine (airframe is pretty well known at this point) let me know and I'll try to get the answers on Sunday. I'm running the new JR 1222 receiver with two A123 batteries. A123 on the ECU as well ... no issues so far and I didn't send it in for the update. I have the voltage cutoff set to 3.6V on my Orbit Pocketlader charger. Fades are less than 15 on all satellites after a 12 minute flight ... most are below 10. That gives a lot of confidence...I love having the data vs the "old days" of narrow band. I'm using a 12X and ran out of channels!! I have a smoke system and will have to Y harness or matchbox something ... rudders, flaps, etc. Looking forward to coming down to Pensacola in a few weeks! Jamie

RE: Lipos in the 12X
You could keep it on an appropriately low trickle charge or use one of the Sirius battery charger/conditioner products. Plug it in when you get home and forget about it. But you're right ... to each their own. I'm more concerned with the Tx functionality and the safety/piece of mind that the DSM2 2.4 GHz brings. If it had Nicads in it and that was the only way it would work I would still buy it. To me, charging the Tx battery is trivial compared to the rest of it. Good luck with yours ... I'm delighted to have mine. JS

RE: Lipos in the 12X
Must be a pretty darn good Tx if all people have to complain about is the fact that 32 flights on a charge isn't enough and the internal discharge rate of the battery is not acceptable. By the time you add the regulator and charge protection and consider the higher cost of those plus the Li-ion cells, I bet there is not much difference in the practical performance for 95%+ of the users, all things considered. Mine's still in the box, but my Kingcat is almost ready to try it out! Can't wait to experience all the "problems"! [:D] JS

Dave, thanks for your comments ... definitely why I was asking opinions of people who are FLYING them, not just observing. Not sure which way I'm going yet. LGM ... yep ... had a KC and loved it. Which ever one I go with I need to talk to you about the paint. I'll be in touch to see if we can get together on it. Keep the Hustler comments coming! Thanks, JS

RE: BVM KingCat vs. JMP Hustler
I wanted to revive this one real quick... Is anyone out there flying a Hustler that could share their experiences with it ... especially as compared to a KC? I'm particularly interested in the slow flight characteristics and how short of a field you can get it in/out of. I'm trying to decide between the two. Thanks, Jamie

RE: JR Match Box.. Ever Experienced
I have used many and never had a problem. I am very good friends with a guy (JR rep in fact) that was having range check issues on 72Mhz. After much troubleshooting, it turned out to be a "bad" Matchbox. Changed it out for another and no issues afterwards. Not sure what the problem was with the bad one. I personally would have no hesitation in using a matchbox on a jet or any other rc airplane. I had two in my Kingcat and had no problems. Just be sure to range check, regardless of 72 MHz or 2.4 gHz. Not sure ... but I flew one of the prototypes this past weekend (albeit on a giant scale aerobatic plane). Sweet Tx ... can't wait for it to be available. I *think* the target timing is late spring, but could be wrong. It'll be worth the wait ... JS

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
I know it's in this forest of a thread someplace, so apologies in advance. I'm working on an 88" Yak and have the following question. Could someone please summarize the cause and suggested fix for up trim (possibly down trim) that's been found to be required on the 88" Yak? Is it due to incidence on the wings or stabs? If so, I'll modify the incidence to zero/zero. If other, please advise. Thanks, Jamie

RE: Mid-Air at Markham Park
Who was in the "pattern" and who was not? If no pattern was established or being flown, it's both of your faults. If one was and one was not, the offender is pretty obvious. Sorry to hear about the loss(es) either way. JS

RE: 35% Aircraft speed ??
My buddy put a hand held GPS unit in his 42% Cap and it measured a max speed of 125 mph. There were no WOT dives ... normal IMAC type aerobatics plus a couple WOT level passes. Was way higher than any of us would have estimated. Can not confirm the accuracy ... it was a typical hand held GPS so was probably pretty close. JS
