RE: The OS 25AX is here
In Club 40 where 40 size engine choice was up to the racer several guys ran GMS they were very competitive, but supply was very poor you would have to wait for months at a time to find engines in stock. Jerry

RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing
Gene, what i'm about to say is off subject, but have you heard about the Briggs, TX race on June 27 and 28. 424 two pole will be run on a 608' course on the 27. I know some of you have been talking of running 424 two pole so hears your chance. Other classes to be run are C40, and 80"WS Sundowners. Jerry

OK, Jim there have been some guys talking up wanting to fly 424 two pole in the metroplex area so I'll talk it up and see how many will show up. Looks like a great weekend. Jerry

RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing
Gene I think 475' would be OK for 424, I like 450' better. Using 475' for Q-25 woiuld push 10 lap times to high 1 minute to 2 minutes, this is very slow and I think some Q-25 guys would get bored with it. Also I think in the 424 class flying around the pylon should be enforced. I know you like myself have seen the headons in Q-25 and c-40. Ask Doug Bebensee about pylon 2 at Nashvile in March a very hard hit nothing came close to anybody but at 424 speeds I think you need to enforce a few more rules. JS

RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing
Gene early in this thread you were talking about everyone getting together on standards for Q-25 class racing. I think in Texas we are on the same rules, I know you and I worked together to get the Dalllas/ft. Worth groups on the same page. I was on a 3 week road trip in April and I noticed that Doug Bebensee's group were going to have a C-40 race in Nashville. I emailed Doug and found their rules were the same as we were using in Texas so I got out my C-40 plane dusted it off and made their race, had a great time. Maybe with Dons help we can get the Carolina guys and others together so were ever you go you can go to a race. 424 legal plane, with min. wieght 3lbs 4 oz. and OS FX 25. What do you think Don? JS

RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing
Gene, yes we got the May 3rd race in. Clouds were a little low but wind was 5-8 out of the NW so racing conditions were good. The conditions must have been good as I won the day, whats that about blind hogs and acorns. Gene several years ago at a Georgetown C-40 race 6-8 of us also brought along a 424 plane. What we wanted to know was how would a 424 do on a 400' course we were using for C-40. We had a mix of pilots from so so rans like myself to guys who fly 428 and 422 class. After trying it we all decided that at 400' the course was to short. We moved the poles out to 450' and everone agreed that this was a do able course length. 600' seems to me to be a very long course. AMA considers one minute to be a fast course time and two minutes to be a slow course. I would think the 424 class would be for more advanced plyon racers who want to fly faster and quicker course times, if not then whats the point just fly Q-25. Anyway just my 2 cents worth on course length. JS

RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing
Gene, RRCC guys have talked about different fuse kits and I would say general opinion is no problem with figerglass. A lot of us are going to the Seeker with 1 1/8" added to the nose. We have several of these flying now and are about ready to place an order with our laser cutter for more fuse kits. I think we will buy wings from Don he has a good price on sheeted wings. See you at your next race. JS

RE: Q-25 Pylon Racing
Gene, I see no speed advanage using a fiberglass fuse. I vote yes, allow them this makes more low cost kits available. I would also like to run a 424 class, but would also still run Q-25, thanks for your work on the series and see you at your next race. RRCC next race is 5-3 so come on out. JS

RE: Whats Going on in the Texas Club -40 Racing for next year?
All races in the metroplex will be on Sunday. Anyone know what the Houston guys are going to do this year? I would like to fly 424 3 pole this year and maybe 428 in the fall. I still have a couple of C-40 planes and I work Houston all the time so maybe I'll get to fly with you guys sometime. Ft. Worth Thunderbird field in Ben Brook is not that far away from WACO they will have at least 4 Q-25 races this year. Course is 450' two pole. Best times are in the low 1:40's, high 1:30's, I'm sure everone is very welcome, so get yourself a Viper, hang on a stock OS 25FX and come play. js

Jim, I was at the warm up race at HOTMAC last year, great field. I don't know about getting the two groups together, C-40 & Q-25. The races in the metroplex will kick off in early March and then there will be a race ever two weeks thru June. July and Aug will be off months then Sept thru early Dec. a race about ever two weeks a fairly busy schedule. Jerry Stafford

RE: Whats Going on in the Texas Club -40 Racing for next year?
A lot of C-40 racers in the Austin, Georgetown, and San Antonio area, each club whos members want a race should pony up, pick a date and put on a race. To much work for just one or two people, I don't see how Chuck lasted as long as he did. We will have 16 Q25 races in the metroplex in 09 and each club with a date will support and put on that event. js

RE: Club 40 ? Q-25 Texas sport racing Championship Race CANCLLED?????
I do not see the good of this either, other than to try and put to rest bad feeling that should not have been generated! Chuck you have flown with both groups and I think like me you have enjoyed being with both. Again I was not there, just reporting. We are too small of a community to not get along and should be supporting each others races. I plan on flying more C40 races this year and 424 and talking up the 424 races to try and get more DFW attendance. I would like to see another C40/Q25 challenge race next spring and I think the Q-25 guys are open to it, the more we can get the two groups together the better for sport racing and especially important to building a two pole 424 series. Chuck I agree with you this is not the place or thread to discuss this and will not do so in the future. JS

RE: Club 40 ? Q-25 Texas sport racing Championship Race CANCLLED?????
One specific complaint was the race start and pylon one. Skull as you know in sport racing, novice racing if you will, you are suppose to fly around the pylons, but as long as you attemp to fly around the plyons but do not, as long as the attemp was made and the distance was flown a cut will not be called. The placing of a cone on the runway at the first pylon distance and taking off and flying straight down the runway, turning around the cone and heading to pylon two is not done in the Q 25 series in the DFW area. I think if this technique has been explained before the race started it would have helped. I was not there and maybe it was talked about but that was one of the complaines I have heard. [:D][:o] Fair/Unfair? I have flown with both groups and a lot of great guys with both groups. JS

RE: Club 40 ? Q-25 Texas sport racing Championship Race CANCLLED?????
I think some of the Q 25 guys in the DFW area were some what suprised by the decision as they do not feel like they were informed. I was not at the C 40 / Q25 shootout in the spring but seems like a lot of not so great feelings with the Q 25 guy's about how the rules were applied. I have flown at the Waco field a good facility and a great bunch of guys, maybe someone can put something together next year. JS

RE: Quickie 25 vs. Club 40...fastest?
If we ever get the two classes together again set the pylons at 425 ft. now that would be an interesting race. Club 40 out numbered Q-25 at the meet, but I agree with everone's throughs it took the Q-25's a long time to get going but once they got up to speed a little faster on the straights, just not time to catch up. From a flying start like we use in Dallas-Ft. Worth Q-25 wins most heats.

RE: To glue, or not to glue?
I have never glued the tail feathers, just used the screws provided. Now that I've gone through several Sky Raiders I have extra vertical and Horz. stabs and can make a quick change when damage occurs during a heat. I've had my tail feathers chewed on several times. Jerry Stafford
