RE: Scratch building a 1/5 scale Russian I-16 WWII fighter
It is finally done and ready for the maiden flight. I know the landing gear is not scale and is a fixed gear but I think is should work just fine. I have the EME-35 gas engine spinning a Xoar 20x8 prop at 7400RPM and a great idle at 1700RPM. Tha plane is really on the heavy side but I think the EME-35 will do the job. Here are a few pics.

RE: How good of an engine is the thunder Tiger Pro 46?
I am using Omega 10% fuel with 4 oz of extra castrol add to it to bring it to 20%. I will break the engine in according to the manual.

Charlie, Great looking plane. I really like the Saratoga and was think about picking one up. It is good to know the Thunder Tiger Pro 46 is a good engine for the plane.[;)]

RE: How good of an engine is the thunder Tiger Pro 46?
The recommended pro is an 11x5 so do you mean to break it in on a 10x5 prop for a few tanks than fly with it in an 11x5. I have a couple of 10x6 props on hand will they work OK.?[8|]

Thanks for the postive answer. That is what I was hoping to hear. I am going to order one from Tower Hobbies and hope to have it hear by Friday so I can fly Saturday. I will be using 10% Omega fuel that is a castor/synthic blend[;)]

RE: Larger Revolver
I looked at your post on how you did the repair of you gear and I have done the smae thing now. I really like the looks of the GP LG but the Dubro Gear is far move forgivings. I have it on 3 on my planes and never had an issue with it at all[:D] Just to let you all know I fly off of a grass field and it had a few small holes here and there. [:'(] We try to fill them when we find them but we miss a few at the begining of flying season and that is what happened to my gear. My landing speed with the stock gear was alright but when the right wheel hit the hole it just ripped the gear right off[:@]

RE: Larger Revolver
Flew my second Rev-7- with the DLE-20 in it Saturday. I love this plane and combo. The DLE-20 has all the power one would want and with a Xoar 17x6 prop it is fast with unlimited verticle. I did have one little problem. I fly off of a grass runway and on a=the third flight the landing gear just reaped out on what I would call a normal landing. I will admit it did bounce once than when it settled down the gear just came off. It was not to bad and I just epoxied the plywood gear mount back on and reenforecd it with expoxied fiberglass cloth. I also changed the landing gear to the Dubro gear for 60 size aircraft.

RE: ASP S91a very impressed
I now have 20 flights on my Phoenix Extra 330S with this ASP S91a and I really like this engine. [:D] I have leaned it out a little more and adjusted the low end. I am now getting 11000 RPM with an evo 14x6 prop and I have a good 2000 RPM idle. I am using the new OS #6 hot glow plug with 10% Omega fuel. This plane and engine are a great combo and I went ahead and ordered another ASP S91a engine from Hobbypartz.com for $78.00[X(] and it just arrived today. I plan on putting it into a Seagull Cap 232[;)]

RE: Larger Revolver
I have both ASP engines you ask about. They are both great engines and I have never had a dead stick. The ASP 108a is like a tractor engine. spins a 15x8 & 16x6 prop very well but not a high rpm engine. The ASP S91A is a higher RPM engine and spins a EVO 14x6 prop at 11000 rpm. Both engines will work well on the rev 70. All you have to figure out is do you want speed of great Torque. I personnaly would use the ASP 108 on the Rev 70 with a evo 16x6 prop. Do not use more than 10% nitro and if you can get 5% it is even better[:D]

RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I did the maiden flight of my Phoenix Extra 330S last weekend. I have a ASP S91A 2 stroke engine and it had plenty of power for this plane. My Phoenix Extra is the new one where the CG is at 100mm. I set my CG at the 100mm make and the plane balanced perfectly. I am getting 10500rpm with an evo 14x6 prop and the plane has unlimited verticle[:D] I know some are using a DLE-20 in this plane and I have 3 DLE-20's but after flying this plane with a ASP S91A I think the DLE-20 is just a little to much engine for this plane[:)] I mean with the extra added weight of the DLE-20 the plane will not be as aerobatic as with a good 91 glow 2 stroke[:o] Just my 2 cents since I have both of these engines. The DLE-20 is better suited for a plane in the 70" area like the GP Revoler-70[;)]

RE: ASP S91a very impressed
Did my madien flight today on this nice ASP S91a engine. I had 5 perfect flight and the engine is just getting better with each flight. I am not a 3D pilot so I cannot tell you how well is does in pulling out of a hover but with my Phoenix 330S it has unlimited verticle with the Evo 14x6 prop. Great looking large loops, nice Hammer heads and great looking knife edges[:D] Good transition from idle to top end and I am getting 10500RPM[X(] on this new engine right now. I like this engine so much I am going to order another one from Hobbypartz. For $78.00 you cannot go wrong[;)]

RE: ASP S91a very impressed
In the manual I got from Global for the Magnum XLS 91 it says to try and get a prop that will turn in the 10000 to 11000 range for best performance. So far I have only test run the engine on the plane for the break-in process. It seems to run just fine so far but the first flight on the engine will be this weekend if weather holds[;)] For the price I paid for this engine I am really impressed with it so far.

I just ran it again today and leaned it out a little more according th the instructions I got from Global. I now have 4 tanks run threw the S91a and I am getting 10500RPM with the EVO 14x6 prop[:D] I still have it a little on the rich side for the first flight this weekend on my Phoenix Extra 330S 60 size. I am going to get a Xoar 14x6 prop and see how well it does. I know some props can make a big difference on performance[:D]

RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I have 3 DLE-20's and I have found a wood 17x6 prop to be the best for the way I fly. I use a Xoar 17x6 when I can find one or a APC 17x6 if a wood 17x6 is not around.[:D] I just finished breaking in my APC S91a 2 stroke engine and I am getting 10500 RPM with a EVO 14x6 prop. That is pretty good for a 2 stroke 91[:D].. I am really looking forward to this weekend when I can take this Extra 330s to the field and put her threw the ringers[:D] The plane weigh's in at 8 1/4lbs so I should get pretty good performance.[:D]

I'm not using the DLE-20 for speed I just like this little gas engine and the Rev-70 is a perfect airframe for it. RE: Magnum/ASP 108
I just ordered an ASP S91A from Hobbypartz and it came priority mail in three days once it was shipped. The only thing about ordering ASP engines from Hobbypartz is the engines have no ID on them. They are true ASP engines just no marking that say they are. I just did a test run of the plan Jane S91A engine from Hobypartz and the engine was very easy to start. I only have one tank of 10% Omega fuel run through it but I am very happy with the engine[;)] There are no instructions with the engine either[:'(] so I went on google and did a search for an instruction manual for a Magnum XLS 91 since they are the same engine. I downloaded the manual from global hobbies web site. The ondifference is the Magnum XLS 91 had a rear needle valve everything else was the same.

RE: Pheonix Extra 330S 60-90 Size
I was flying my Phoenix Extra 330s with a Magnum 108a in it using a APC 16x6 prop. It was a great combo and flew very well until I did something really dumb[:@] I changed the prop to a 15x8 APC and thighten it down finger tight to line the prop up with and compression stroke. I got distracted by my Dog who wanted to help. I than put the spinner on and went to the field to flying. The Magnum started right up and I was opening up the throttle to make sure top end was good with the new prop. All of a sudden the whole prop and spinner came flying off the plane and the engine went runnig wild until I finaly got the engine killed. After that the Magnum never rain right again. I had a new ASP S91A at home that I have put into the Extra and I hope it will work out to be a good combo. The ASP S91A seems to rev higher than the old Magnum 108 so maybe it will be a good engine[;)]

RE: Larger Revolver
Jeremy, Both planes look real good. I would go with the TroyBuilt Extra. It has more wing area and weighs the same as the AeroWorks Extra. That translates ninto a lighter wing loading which means it sould fly better.[;)] I think the TroyBuilt will also be easier to see in tne air.[;)]

RE: Larger Revolver
Your OS 70 should be plenty of power for your Pheoixe 330s. My 330s has a 63" wing span and I had a Magnum 108a in it. It was a little over kill but really flew nice. I am changing it out to a ASP S91a I have that should work out a little better for the CG. I was going to have to add more weight to the tall if I wanted to keep the 108 in it. Should be done ths week then onto the Rev-70[:D]
