futaba R6008HS receiver
Bax, Krysta: I'm going to set up my plane with a new R6008HS RX, this is my first 2.4GHz gear. I noticed that it has a dedicated battery port, but I'm going to use a SmartFly power expander that has two battery inputs on channels 1 and 8. Can I leave the battery port unused and connect the rest of the power expander in their channels? Does the 2.4 equipment work the same as the G3, in the sense that you can connect power pigtails to any channel? Thanks, John

Update for 12Z
Bax, Krista: My 12Z is 4 years old and it came in the 72Mhz configuration. I just bought the 2.4Ghz module and the 14 chanel Rx, I have not installed the system yet. My radio came from Tower Hobbies with the 1.20 update already in it (I think that´s the one it came with) My question, I see that there is a 1.7.1 update on the futaba web site, if I download that update, will it include all the other updates that have been available in the last 4 years? Thanks, John

12MZ update
Bax, Krysta: I bought my 12 MZ in 1 December 2008, it is the 72 Mhz version and I want to upgrade it to 2.4Ghz. My manual says that the soft ware version on my radio is the 1.31. In the tower hobbies web site it says that I have to upgrade the soft ware in order to use the 14 chanel module and receivers. In the futaba page they have the 1.7.1 update, but I have never updated my transmiter, so: will the 1.7.1 update be enough for my radio to operate the new module? or is there any other place where I should look for all the other updates that I haven´t installed in the transmiter? Thanks, John

RE: AW 100CC 540 Ailerons
Another thing to consider is the vibration, which may be higher on he outer wing. I have a 35% plane that has eaten out the gears on the outboard servos two times in 2 years and I have nothiced that the vibration on the wing tips is higher than in the root. If you take into account that the JR servos (8411, 8611 and 8711) have a weak first gear (the plastic one) or at least they are famous for that problem, you may consider changing to Hitecs or futabas. I now use futabas 9156, they are overkill for the ailerons but the gears have been great for the last three years. In another plane I changed the JRs for Hitecs 5955 titanium and hey have been great for 2 years. I usse the EQ6 turbo on both too. all changes were done to ailerons. John Edit note: these JR servos I used were 8611s, the gears don´t get broken, but the theeth on the gear get sort of rounded instead of being triangular, then the servo fights to keep the center and loses grip on the end points and that eats up the pot.

RE: multiple throttle servo failures
I have used the 5245 from hitec in my 35% yak... burned 3 sevos one of them to the point that smoke came out from it. I was told that that servo doen´t like the 6 volts. I tried two more on a smaller plane with a 50cc engine at 4.8 volts and they have been working for two years. The ones on the 6 volt plane burned after 2 to 4 flights. Now I use hitecs 645 on throttle and choke, three and a half years latter no problems.

RE: 100cc newbie questions
I have the 9152´s on the rudder, they work great. not recomended for the rest of the plane since they are bigger and you would have to open all servo bays for them to fit. This is easier done for the rudder, great choice for that. For the rest of the plane´s surfaces I have the 9156s.

vibrating 3W 106
Hello, I don´t know if this has been asked before, couldn´t find any answers in the other threads. The engine is a 3W 106, it has about 15 to 18 gallons through it, mejzlik 27x10 at 6450 rpms. Super unleaded 40:1 with red line racing oil. The engine was checked to see if anything was bent and came back ok. but it vibrates on idle a lot and keeps doing it up to about 2500 rpms. then it smoothes out. The plane is an RC-pilot 35% YAK and I reinforced the engine box with 1/4 plywood triangles that go from the cowl base to the fire wall. The transition from low to high is great, idle is 1500 rpms and top end power is great too, I was wondering if the low end needle has anything to do with vibrating at low rpms?? Even though the transition might be good, is there any other test with the needles to see if this vibration goes away or at least makes it less? Thanks John

12Z flap to elevator mix
I have a giant big stick with this radio. I have one servo driving the flaps and two servos driving the ailerons, one on the elevator. The wing type selected is "two ailerons one flap". I want to mix in a way that when I drop the flaps, the elevator will go down a few degrees. I managed to set it up in the LD switch (rotary switch) but the elevator will only drop a feww degrees when the LD switch is rotated completely. I need the elevator to move proportionally as I rotate the switch. or if it is easier, I would want the flaps to be on a three position switch and the elevator to move proportionally at each step. What am I doing wrong? John Ohh I forgot, the rx I´m using is a 9 channel synthetized DPS319.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I finally started one of my two Syssa´s. Penzoil air cooled at 40:1, 80°f, 3000 feet ASL, Bolly 18x6.... 8550 rpms out of the box, I still have to fine tune the needles, but managed to put 3 flights in a 70 inch sukhoi that weights in at 12.5 pounds, pulled the plane really good. very easy to start, has a lot of power, didn´t overheat, never missed a beat.. nice little engine that made me feel proud at the field. These are the first two down here in Honduras, everyone was impressed with the looks and performance. kudos to Todd and crew, keep up the good work guys! John

RE: Regulator for a 50cc yak
I have the super regulator (the one with no fan) on an Aeroworks extra 75 cc. The setup on this plane is the same as in the 50cc planes, on servo per aileron (hitecs 5955tg), one per elevator(same hitecs) and one on rudder (futaba 9156), the power on these servos are overkill for this plane, except maybe for the rudder one. One 5200 mAh fromeco LiIon battery feeds the regulator and I made three wires comming out from the two outputs of the regulator, so I have three input on my receiver (futaba 9 chanel) I have other smart-fly equipment on other planes besides this super regulator and all of this equipment is excellent! The way I would do it in your case is , connect the two batteries to the input on the regulator, and from the output of the reg. take one each to your receiver. you´ll have more than enough amps for your servos with that setup and the batteries will discharge at the same time. Then go fly!! John

I think we all should know which manufacturer produced this particular plane, maybe you can´t type the name here, but you could post a picture of the plane before or after the crash. We can identify the plane by it´s colors; since almost everyone of them covers their planes differently, it won´t be difficult. POST A PICTURE!!!!

Oil stains from muffler
Hi everyone, I have a 3W-106 twin that stains the underside of my cowl and the belly of the engine with a lot of black oil marks. I don´t know if it has to do with needles or if the engine hasn´t been broken-in enough. Here´s what this engine´s been doing: 1.- for the first 4 gallons Pennzoil 32:1, mejzlik 27x10, 6450 rpms 2.- after the 4 gallons, Red Line Racing oil 40:1, mejzlik 27x10, 6480~6550. it now has about 6 gallons on this oil 3.- Engine has stock incowl mufflers, I had to cut the muffler legs about 1 inch to fit the cowl without having to make bigger holes, airplane is a Pilot RC YAK 35%, weighting in at 29.5 pounds ready to fly. 4.- The engine vibrates a little more than I expected from a 2 cylinder engine. Needles are - high 1 turn and low 7/8 of a turn. 5.- Transition is great through out the throttle range and iddle rpms are 1400. There´s a lot of oil build up under the cowl after 6 flights, a little oil under the plane and left wing and more than a little on and under the left stab. It has the factory timmng. Any ideas as to what could be causing so much oil comming out of the engine or is this normal? let me know if there´s a fix for it, any advice is welcome. Thanks, John

To all that are using flaps for landing, is there any elevator mixing required to keep the plane level? I´m starting to build my 110, engines just came in. Is there any advice on the gear doors to install them properly? should I use the system or should I install air cylinders for them? Thanks, John

RE: 3W 85XI
Dubs; I have the 3W-85 and your number are very, very low. Here are some number I got with mine. The engine has about 10 gallons thru it, running red line racing oil at 40:1 PT 27x8 = 7050 rpms Mejzlik 27x10 Thin = 6900 rpms Mejzlik 26x10 = 7250 rpms (too little prop) Mejzlik 27x10 = 6800 rpms Mejzlik 28x10 = 6200 rpms The engine has been in two planes and I have writen all results with the different props to see what was that I needed for each aplication. This engine is a beast and very smooth. Hope this helps, John T.O.M. sorry I didn´t see your post before posting, I did install the bigger props (27x10) because the plane performed a lot better with it. The other smaller props produced a lot of noise and in a 30 pound plane the lower rpms pulled it with more authority.

RE: NEW SYSSA 30CC GASSER MADE IN THE USA
Hello everyone, I just read this whole thread and last monday I placed an order for two of these engines for a project I have. I wanted to ask, I have two bolly 18x6 props in my shop, I didn´t buy any other props for the engines besides the two bielas 16x10, 3 blades that the plane is going to use (Bf-110 zerstorer) Do you guys think the bolly props are too much load for an engine? .... let me re-frase that, do you think a bolly prop is more load than a vess/xoar prop of the same size and pitch? The two Syssa 30´s will probably be too much power for this plane, I´ll just have to throttle manage the flights, but I´ve seen some cheaper engines (RCS-SV, DLE, DL and 3mmTOC) in our field and besides not performing very good the people that have them have had all sorts of problems. When I saw the Syssa engines, the quality they show and the fact they´re made in the U.S. I had no doubt these were te ones I needed!. Besides, Todd is a great guy to deal with. Let me know your thought about these bolly props or if I should look for something different. Thanks, JC

RE: 14 MZ Discontinued??
Krysta, does the same apply to the 12MZ? I see tower is not selling them any more, they´re discontinuing the sales for the PCM radios? It was brought to my attention that the 12MZ and 14 MZ are still being stocked by Tower. I´m just talking about the PCM radios, the 2.4 GHz are still in stock. So the question only refers to PCM/PPM radios bigger than 10 channels.
