RE: Bipe for small four stroke
Matt, I've seen a couple of Gee Bee Dreamer Bipes floating around in the classifieds section of RCU. Looks likea great little plane that (from what I read) is a great flyer. I'm actually thinking about building one myself. Thought you might take a look Jeff

Thanks for the quick answers guys! I'll either be looking for a new carb for the sportster or a new engine. I dont think I want to deal with replacing the carb parts. Jeff

K&B Indentification?
I have had this engine laying around for years. Which model is it? 61 or 65 maybe? The needle valve assembly has been moved to the back. Anyone know anything about how to move it back to the carb? Trying to get it to fit in a cowl and the rear mounted needle valve/mount back plate needs to be changed. Any help would be great............. (the last 2 pics will enlarge to full size) Thanks, Jeff

RE: SIG Ryan STA Special ->Engine?
After further investigation I find that it is the Sig wood kit. The builder did such a fine job of glassing the fuse that it feels and looks like molded glass. Rivet details and paint is outstanding. Im in need of a copy of the plans. Trying to setup drilling for the engine mount and I need to see the datum line and the manufacturers suggestion for mount location. Can anybody help? Thanks, Jeff

RE: What's Your Favorite Hinging Method and How Do You Seal Your Gaps!
I bought and old timers smith mini plane a few years ago and noticed the nylon hinges were glued and pinned with toothpicks. Thought it was overkill. Then this season my GP ugly stick's rudder started to loosen (nylon hinge/epoxy glue) I think the old timer knew what was up. Im pinning my hinges these days! Worth the extra time. Jeff

RE: Smith Miniplane Winter Project
mnrcaerobat , The smith mini is my favorite "quick run to the field and fly" airplane. I can fit it in the back seat of my 4 door sedan without any disassembly and nobody ever recognizes it as the smith mini. Don't see many of the mini's around anymore. It's and older kit. Yes, It definatley gains altitude during full throttle. Can't do anything but trim it down. I run the new Saito 56 in it and flies perfectly, but is not over powered. I think the old OS fs 61 (4 strk) would be ideal. A 72 4 stroke would be over kill. Nothing like a serious flying plane.....no set up time, assembly or losing wing bolts. Just take it out, fuel it up and flyit! Jeff

RE: SIG Ryan STA Special ->Engine?
Ok guys, Question about the sig Ryan. I just picked one up that was built many years ago. I think the os 91 4 stoke will be fine, but how can I tell if this was a sig kit? It seems the fuse on this one is a molded fiberglass fuse!!? Anybody know if the sig fuse is wood built up or molded? Jeff

Suggestions/old and new
Hey guys, I liked the old format, but you are doing great with the new one. A couple of suggestions: I really liked knowing when the author of a post was "online" while I was reading the post. Made it easy to decide which to type of messaging to use. Immediate contact was the PM, or just post and check back tomorrow for a response. Can you bring that feature back? Also I noticed you cannot make an offer for a trade. Amount of offer can't be less than half of asking price and nowhere to list a trade offer. I have been using the "ask seller a question feature". Kind of annoying, but thought I would let you know.

RE: Hitec Spectra Module Issues?
snyperx, I have been using the Hitec Spectra for 2 seasons now (originally in the prism 7x and now in the eclipse). Receivers used have been hitec, futaba, airtronics and now Im using the Polk hobbies seekerII syntheseiser receiver. Never any problems with any of them. The spectra/polk combo is the ultimate in field versatility!

Hitec Eclipse Retracts Problem
Ok here is an interesting problem. My TF P-47 is set up with (bought it built and ready for flight) the landing gear on mechanical retracts. Two futaba retract servos running two mech retracts (one servo for each retract). When I y-harness them together and plug em into the receiver and throw the switch,.......one gear leg goes down, one goes up. Throw switch other way and opposite happens. I can't get both legs up and down at the same time! It's probably a really silly fix, but my manual (radio) is missing and in need to get this straightened out. Any ideas? Jeff

eclipse manual
Mike, I Lost the manual for the eclipse (probably at the field). The hitecrcd website support/manual download for the eclipse is not working correctly. I tried to find the email address of the webmaster on the site, but it's not listed. Could you forward this message to him or have he/she fix the eclipse manual download link. I need the manual to reprogram the radio. Now if the radio was easier to program (ie. more intuitive)...... I would not need the manual! Im sure the engineers and design staff will love that comment! Thanks, Jeff

Polk's SeekerII
Ok.... I hope somebody can help with this. Setting up the seekerII receiver. The directions say connect as shown in diagram (ie servos, batt, set button etc) turn on power to receiver press set button and hold till aileron servo jitters power up the Tx within 12 inches of receiver waggel the ailerons and your done. Mine does not. Seems as though the set button does not work. I never get to the jittering aileron servo. Also there are 2 leds on the seeker, a red led (always on) and a set led (have not seen this one lite) am I missing something or is this one defective? Also the battery and Set jacks on the receiver seem to be labeled opposite of the diagram on the instructions. I have the Batt as the first jack and the set code jack as #2 Mr. Polk....this one may be coming back to you. Jeff

choice radio
Blkhawk, I have both the rd6000 and the Eclipse, I love the rd 6000.....very easy to program and remember how to use the computer features at the field when you forget to bring the operators manual with. Does not have exp or dual rate on Rudder.... a real bummer. I like the Eclipse for the multi frequency selection (spectra module) but the computer programing is torture on the brain. Not very intuitive at all. If I forget the manual at home when I go to the field Im really stuck if I need to change something stored in memory. The eclipse has become my standard radio, and the RD6000 is my backup or special project radio. I hope my input helps. Jeff

fs - 61
Bax...thanks for responding. No, compression is still great.....I don't think thats the problem. Still fires up and sounds fine while it is running. I don't think it ran long enough for it to heat up, I still had it on the ground testing. Any other reason that you can think of for the shut down? I have not disassembed it yet. Jeff

OS FS-61 shutting down
Bax, I had the FS-61 running fine.....then it ate through the wooden prop center and the prop slowed but the crank shaft kept spinning. Then it shut down on it's own. Now when I start the engine, it runs for 15 or 20 seconds and shuts down. I can increase rpm but it stutters and dies. Any suggestions before I send it in for service? Jeff

Bubbles forming in aged fiberglass
An interesting thing happened recently. I had the wing off the P-47 and standing on it's end next to the fireplace for a few days. The sun would hit it for a few hours every morining for about a week (didn't really pay attention to the sun until I noticed the problem). Then I noticed the air bubbles forming in the fiberglass. Now the plane has them all over the top of the wings. Anybody EVER notice this happening before? Any quick fix? I have a funny feeling Im going to be sanding a P-47 wing sometime this summer.

Classified Charges, Membership Fees and Advertising
Hi Mark, I emailed you a few times a couple of months ago about the Vbulletin software and my disappointment that a "transaction (point of sale) section" could not be added or was not going to be included in the newest version. This is exactly the reason I was asking. When you need to increase your cash inflow (whatever the reason) how do you do it? I think you should chase all 3 forms (listed in my subject line) of income. What people don't remember is that by using the classified section and buying/selling used equipment, they are saving $100's of dollars. Where else would we pick up good used engines/radios/kits etc at values less than half that of new ones? Ebay? Well we all know they pay dearly for that. Ebay has become the largest money making idea of all time! And people on here use it all the time. How many RCU users will go back to wasting the entire Saturday driving to swap meets or sitting at a table selling stuff? Go back to buying new stuff?.......not the cheap complainers I am reading about in these responses. You have to do what makes sense for you and your vision of the future for this forum board. How many will you lose? I guess the answer to that is try it and see. I KNOW I have saved OVER $1000 this year on buying products here online. I have not yet sold anything. I actually have not made a donation....but would happily pay a membership fee to be able to continue to use the classifieds. Ebay is expensive and an auction. Its pretty hard to get a fair price at an auction where the bidders can run up the price under a second or third email address/username and walk away. RCU saves me tons of time (and gas money) going to and from meets and shows. I am willing to pay for that! The problem with people is.... they want everything...but don't want to pay for it. Welcome to the new America!! (and people wonder why companies are closing, firing employees and the economy is in the toilet!)

Co-Pilot
Hi guys, I bought the Co-pilot last year thinking that I would use it as "insurance" when trimming out new planes (have a few on the building boards). It's the best insurance against having mistakes wipe out all your hard work. I love the darn thing. I keep it mounted in whichever plane I am flying on an extra channel. When I want it on ....click ...it's on. Especially for very winds days. Works like a charm! Jeff

Im in the same situation.......starting the TF spit. I've been convinced that fiberglass is the only way to go. I have considered the Saito 100, but have been thinking of the RCV 120 due to ease of cowl fit and I have been looking for a reason to try the new style motor. Jeff
