RE: WACO YMF
Hi Bill, yes, I just noticed the same thing. After becoming a member of the Waco Brotherhood, I have now noticed so many other Brotherhoods out there.

RE: WACO YMF
Hi guys, before I start my Pica 1/6 Waco build, I thought I would share some pics of the little test bed model I was flying a couple of years ago. It is a Sportsman Aviation Waco UPF-7, which I repainted in a military trainer scheme ([link=http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/488604.html]http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/488604.html[/link]). It had a Technopower 7B radial. It flew brilliantly with this engine, but unfortunately the engine went "bang" at full noise at a scale display, and it has been pulled apart and sitting in 16 little containers until I find the time to repair it. I have the new parts now, so I should be able to put it back together very soon. I might even get the little UPF-7 back in the air while I am building the YMF, as it was so much fun. Can't wait to start on the Pica kit. James.

RE: WACO YMF
Hi guys, My name is James, and I would like to become a member of the WACO Brotherhood. I was referred to this forum by George Waco brother #209 (rccrasher65). I recently purchased a 1/6 Pica Waco YMF-3 kit from George, on behalf of a friend of mine. I already have the 1/6 kit myself, and we are both planning on building them soon. We both have a Technopower 7B radial for power, which should be about as scale as we can get it. i am looking forward to the build, and reading through this massive and informative thread. Thanks guys. Regards, James.

RE: SIG Ryan STA RC-27
Hi tturkey, I too am slowly restoring an old Sig Ryan STA. I picked it up off ebay a few years ago. It was originally done in the popular John Gosney scheme, but I am converting it to an STM-S2 with an all polished aluminium fuse. I have a thread on RCSB here: [link=http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10833&KW=ryan+sta&PN=0&TPN=1]http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10833&KW=ryan+sta&PN=0&TPN=1[/link] I have not done any work on the Ryan for quite a while, but I hope to get back into it in the coming months. I am looking forward to seeing the progress with yours.

RE: SIG Ryan STA special kit by Maxy Hester
Great job John, I am really impressed by your neat building work. I just came across this thread and will now watch with interest. I have been restoring an old Sig Ryan that I picked up off eBay a few years ago. Have not done much on it for a long while, but hopefully this thread will give me some inspiration to get back into it. I also have a NIB kit sitting in stock, waiting for the right time. James.
ORIGINAL: chuckels James, that's great news!! That Smithy is one fart smeller.... um smart feller... Chuck
Hi Chuck, Yes, it's true! I hope to have the Junior in a model this year, but still a bit tight on budget at the moment. Have to finish off my 97" Gee Bee Y and 63" EPO Corsair first. Then I'm heading over to Top Gun in a few weeks, so that will put a nice dent in the budget for a while!! [:D] James.

RE: New JetJoe J-Junior 4lbs turbine
Hi all, With Smithy's help, I finally figured out what was up with my Junior. Seems the fuel ring was clogged with carbon. With the ring now replaced with a clean one (thanks Smithy), she is again running well. Will try to post a video at some stage. James.

RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi Patti, You are right, I certainly don't have the time to be building the Fury, it is my mate's project. I am actually just helping him to find a photo of the pilot, as usually I am good at finding that kind of thing on the web. But Mr. Paxton is a tricky one. The Fury will be 1/4 scale, and will stand 32 tall, with a 98 span, weighing in at 32lbs with a working liquid cooled V12 up front. Let's just say that he is a very ambitious bloke! James.

RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi all, I am helping out a friend, who will definitely be in contact with Patti for a pilot for his new project, but we can not find a photo of the pilot for his subject aircraft. His subject aircraft is the Hawker Fury II - K7270, which was delivered to the elite RAF 25 Squadron at Hawkinge in November 1936 and served there until late 1937. Flown by Squadron Leader A .L. ‘Tony’ Paxton, who in K7270 along with the rest of his flight, put on by all accounts the most memorable display ever seen at that time at the 1937 RAF Hendon Air Pageant, which was the very last Pageant before WW2. Can anyone help with a photo of Squadron Leader A. L. ‘Tony’ Paxton? Regards, James.
ORIGINAL: chuckels hey James, did ya ever get the JJJ fired up? Chuck
G'day Chuck, yes I did mate, but only at Smithy's house. I have since tried to get it to run at home but have not had any luck. I must be doing something wrong. Am now working out a day to go back to Smithy's place to see what the problem is. I am suspecting either the fuel pump or me not doing something right. James.

RE: New: Beech Baron and Duchess arf
ORIGINAL: rgaynor It is about a pound heavier than I wanted. Part of the weight is coming from using 4500 MAH batteries. The other part is the custom paint job and detailed interior. My plane came as the unpainted version. Regarding using Robart retracts or struts, any suggestions on which ones to use for the Baron? Thanks James Ron
I would recommend using the E-Flite retracts. Not sure about which exact Robo struts, just have a look at the Robart site. They are 4130 chromoly, so are much stronger. James.

RE: New: Beech Baron and Duchess arf
Hi all, I too have some concern about the struts, as they are only made from aluminium. This is the main problem with all of the chinese struts on the market these days, including ESM (KMP). Hopefully one day they will consider making them from 4030 chromoly, like Robart do, and then they will really start to compete. I would recommend going for Robostruts if you are having trouble with these ones. rgaynor - wow! 17lb, that is very heavy! James.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Thanks for your help guys. It is very odd, as I recently took the Junior over to Smithy's place and it ran fine with my pump, my gas bottle, my ECU, etc. I figure I must be doing something wrong in the start procedure. I have tested the pump in priming mode and it works fine. I have also tested the pump by removing the fuel line from the turbine and going through the startup procedure to see if the pump is kicking in at the correct rpm and temp settings, and it seems to be. I just can't figure it out. Maybe the pump is not working under the back pressure it is getting when it is hooked up to the turbine. It works fine with the fuel line runnning in free air, but when I hook it up to the turbine it seems to not be working. It is very strange. I am planning on going back to see Smithy to set it up in his workshop again to see if it is me, or if it is some component in my setup. James.

RE: JetJoe OWNERS thread
Thanks Jean. Yes, I have seen the rcmodelistas.es thread already. It is very helpful. I will check out the video too. Thanks again. Actually, since I first ran my Junior at Smithy's place, I have not been able to get it running again after setting it up at home. I have gone over every step time and time again, but I just can't get it to run past about 45K rpm. It just ends up going over temp (>800ºC) and will not continue to ramp up to idle. I suspect that there is a problem with the fuel pump at low voltage, but we did use the same pump when we ran it the first time. I am now planning on taking it back over to Smithy's place to try to sort it out. James.

RE: Aichi Val D3A1 CAD designed 1/6th scale wood kit
Hi Chris, I am following this thread with great interest. I really would love to learn how to design a model in 3D. I will have to talk to you about it some time. I am currently designing some 1/4 scale struts for a PT-19, and I too was hoping to have them mount to the spar in the scale way, just like you have done with the Aichi. Are you able to share some more detail with me around the mounting of the gear to the spar? Much appreciated. James.
