RE: HPI Formula 10 has no grip
Yeah, I put some 1/10 tires from my old TT01 and same results. No grip at all. The 1/10 wheels fit but still had wheel spin.

RE: HPI Formula 10 has no grip
I've even seen tire warmers for these RC F1 cars. I just wanna bash around the tennis courts. Any specific brands to should go for? Would foam tires give me any more traction? I head the stock HPI tires that the F10 comes with are really bad. Also on my ESC and transmitter I can setup it for soft start so if I pull the trigger fast, it still slowly applies throttle but still lots of wheel spin. I can only imagine how much skill is needed to drive a real F1 without traction control.

RE: HPI Formula 10 has no grip
I've nver used this compound before but is that like some sort of glue that you put on the tires? Is it sticky? will it attract dirt?

RE: HPI Formula 10 has no grip
I'm thinking the tires are a bit hard. You think foam tires will be better? Will Tamiya F103 tires fit on the HPI? I was so looking forward to a speeding F1, my 4 wheel drive tt01 is fast at this point.

HPI Formula 10 has no grip
Hi, I recently built this car and find that it has zero grip. I have a 13T brushless motor and it just spins the wheels in place with just the slightest throttle. Then I put in my old 540 brushed motor and it's the same thing. What could be the problem? It's a 2-wheel drive formula 1 car. I'm using the stock tires and on wooden floors, tile, asphalt, you name it, it just has zero grip. What can I do to transfer all the power to the road? what kind of tires? I have a buggy with the same brushless setup and it flies. Thanks. Specs: 25a sensorless esc 13t brushless motor 7.4v 2S lipo

RE: what kind of foam is this?
Yeah i notice they're several layers but, it's held together pretty good, no way of it getting separated though. Are there plans that would use this kind of foam? The sheets are about 18x23".

what kind of foam is this?
Is this EPO foam? I have access to tons of this stuff, can this be used to build anything useful? specifiically the large pink sheets. They're about 1/2 inch thick.

RE: Honey Bee FP
I just got some trex 500 skids and put them on my bee. It's sexy! Flies great too. What I notice now is it lands a lot better especially on grass. The 450 skids were still too small. Both my HBv2's have 500 skids on them now. I'm going bigger skids for all my helis. My 450 heli has 500 skids and my 500 heli will have 600 skids.

Which one of these watt meters are better? One of them is out of stock. I like how you can use it to program your ESC too... so it's like dual purpose. I bought my 2 of my HBv2 from ebay. For $150 each shipping included. They were shipped direct from the Esky factory. Seller was shenamy88. Great seller too.

I wonder if anyone else is using bigger skids on their bee v2. I have skids from my trex 450 heli and they work great. I'm thinking about putting some skids from a 500 trex.

RE: Can a 2.4GHz Esky 6ch radio be bound to more than one reciever?
Yes you can bind 1 TX to multiple RX's. I have a 2.4ghz transmitter that is bound to a honey bee v2 and v4 lama. However.. you may have to reverse some channels for other helis. My v4 lama has normal for aileron and my hbv2 has reverse.

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
Thanks opjose. I can use an EDF with this plane? Don't I have to worry about somehow mounting this edf? When I get the jet, I'm gonna fly it stock. See if it's "fast" enough for me. I'm not looking for a bullet. Then I'll try whatever motors and props I have and work from there. But the help here so far is great, I have a baseline of what to try.

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
These are the specs for my jet: Wingspan: 875mm Length: 700mm Height: 170mm Flying Weight: 550g Okay so find a prop, find a motor that can drive the prop efficiently, and then find an ESC that can deliver the amps needed? How do you know what size prop is approriate for a certain plane. Looking at my jet, if we start with a prop then look for a motor.

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
From the rc car world and BL motors, more turns means more torque but less speed. So for big trucks it's good to have a higher turn motor. For speed, I go will a lower turn motor. I'm trying to find some sort of pattern here. My goal is to get decent speed while maximizing efficiency for the parts I use. I guess I should set some requirements for what I want the plane to do and what motors/batteries/esc/props I have. Then find a combo that meets those goals? "I want my jet to go about 100kmh with a 2S/3S/4S battery and a 30-40A ESC with about 80% drive eff", if I had this as a goal to strive for would that work? I guess you can have lots of combos that would meet the exact requirement so one guy may have smaller prop and higher rpm motor vs another guy with a bigger prop etc. And they both perform the same. that's what's kinda confusing to me right now. I can't seem to find a pattern. I noticed DriveCal has a "Match Prop" button does that mean it'll magically figure out what the best motor to use for my prop? I tried that and it found motors that had drive eff as high 90%.

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
I was playing around with Drive Calculator. And used a 3900kv motor instead of the 2200kv. Now my speed shot up wot 139km/h. But efficiency was 45%. What does this actually do to the plane? I go faster but what am I losing? So I'm losing 30% eff to what? Also when I put in a smaller prop, 3x3, it goes faster! So if I wanna use a faster motor, I have to use a smaller prop? It's tough to figure out how a prop and motor affect each other. I still don't get it.

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
I'll check out the datalogger and wattmeter. Does the datalooger attach to the plane and record telemetry? I don't know if it was a good idea for me to buy a funjet for my first plane.... but I accidentally loaded it up in one of my helicopter sims and i had a blast flying it... now I'm hooked on to planes too. what on earth did I get myself into. I use to be a rc car guy. then helis and now planes! I find planes much easier to fly than helicopters actually. When I first controlled the funjet, it was flying it like I've flown it in another life. We'll wait and see if I can fly it in person hehe.

how to protect eps foam?
I'm gonna get a jet that is EPS foam. What is usually the method to protect it? Would I be able to use carton sealing tape? Or fibre glass weaves?

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
Wow!! thanks for your help! I'm gonna use the 2200kv first then. I bought it with the funjet, the stock motor is 1800kv. I also got a 25-30A ESC so this should be a good setup. Your results confirmed that. I'll try out this drive calc. With the second setup with 6x4 prop, it has more thrust.... shouldn't it mean it'll be faster than the 4.75x4.75? Somehow it's not. So basically, when i find a combo that works, I first off have to know the peak effeciency of the motor and then come up with a drive efficiency that is close to it? Again, that's for all your help!

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
My motors are all several brands. Turnigy mostly and some unheard of ones like Hobbymate, Icecold. I actually found a site that does the calc but how accurate is this? It doesn't look like it takes into account the weight of the plane. [link=http://adamone.rchomepage.com/calc_motor.htm]ESC/Motor/Prop Calculator[/link] I played around with some numbers. Basically a 25A ESC, 2200mhz 3S batt, 4.75x4.75 prop, 2200kv motor. I get about 79mph. Yet when I increase the motor to 3200kv, the speed drops down to 77mph. Should it go up? When I increase the prop diameter, it slows down, and the only thing that makes it go faster it seems is the blades with higher pitch. 4.75x5.5 gives me, 84mph. I guess you have to get the right balance of prop/motor, cause if I increase motor rpm, it goes slower, but then I have to increase the pitch of the blades, they go faster, and if I increase diameter, it slows down the plane.

RE: ESC/motor/prop combos
Basically I should pick the biggest prop this plane can handle and then find a motor, then get an ESC that can deliver the right amount of power? I was think something like 20C, 1500mah to 2200mah, 3S. But that might be too heavy. For props I have 5x4, 5x4.5, 6x4, 4.75x4.75. Motors I have a selection of 1800kv, 2200kv (inrunner), 3200kv (inrunner), 3500kv, 3800kv, and 5000kv. They're mostly small outrunners and weight about 100g. Thanks! Here's the specs for my plane. It's a Funjet clone. Wingspan: 875mm Length: 700mm Height: 170mm Flying Weight: 550g

ESC/motor/prop combos
I'm trying to wrap my head around how to determine which motor/ESC or prop to use. If I have a 3200kv motor, how do you know which ESC or prop I should use it with? What's the math involved? Thanks.

RE: v4 lama batteries
They probably went through about 6 cycles. I have 6 batteries. Half are Mystery branded, and half are Esky. Some will work for about 1 minute and then not lift off since it looks like it drained. On the voltmeter, it drops to about 3.8v per cell. If I turn it off/on and check voltage again, it's backup to 4.2v per cell and I can lift off again but dies again. When I try to charge it, only about 100mah is pumped back in. My voltmeter tells me they are about 4.23v per cell and over 8v combined. I have the stock motors too

v4 lama batteries
I have a few batteries, original esky batteries actually. 10C. I charged them and yet when I put them on my lama, it doesn't seem to be able to lift the heli up. Yet on my other batteries by Mystery, they work fine. Are my esky batts toast? I drained them to 3.1v as well and according to my charger, they charged up to 800-900mah.

I'll check it out. But I don't think it's a leak. What else could it be. Could it be something in the motor? I haven't used my nitro in about 4 months. Just put it in storage in my room.
