Prop mounting holes
Here's a question for Gas engine manufacturers- Since the day has more or less come that manufacturers should standardize (e.g. cell phone chargers) their connections, why can't that be brought forward to the model engine suppliers? No not chargers for the engines but rather the propeller mounting holes for gas engines of approximately the same size? I would think that it should be possible to standardize the bolt pattern so that one could easily switch a prop from say a ZDZ - 3W or DA and others without having to redrill the prop creating more holes, possible balance problems, and possible weakness in the hub? Buying another CFK prop just to try it out on another plane with a different motor starts running into a lot of $$$$. For that matter, what drives the decision for each manufacturer to have a different pattern? Maybe we should all revert to ZG which only has a center bolt and nut? OK, Zenoah doesn't have the power engines as other manufacturers so that limits them to under 100cc. Let's face it- at over 120$ for a quality 3 blade CFK prop you don't want to have to keep buying props just to see what the performance difference is or what difference is makes for a decibel reading! Would be interested in hearing what other people think about this.

RE: 14MZ Copy Function
ORIGINAL: Bax You just copy the model to the transmitter or the memory card. The transmitter will then display the copy as well as the original. If your airplane is named ''Spitfire'', then the copy will show ''Spitfire-1''. The 14MZ does not have memory ''slots'' like the older transmitters had. It just has memory, and uses as much as necessary to save or copy your models.
Yes that's right, Thanks for the input Bill. But I think that what FatAir is getting at is that there is no way to directly copy to an existing model. Let's say I have a new setup for my Katana and want to use it for my Extra. The copy saves it as Katana_1 - so since I have an existing setup for my Extra I must either delete my original Extra setup, then rename the Katana_1 to Extra or rename the original Extra to Extra_org and then rename the Katana_1 copy to Extra. That's what seems to make it confusing to a lot of new 14MZ users.

RE: 14MZ Copy Function
Unless I've missed something you are right- the 14MZ does not copy directly to another model. Instead, like you said, it makes a copy of the selected model to either the card or Tx memory and then you rename the copy. Maybe there is some other magical way but that's the only way I've found to do it. Sort of goes like this- I have plane #1 and plane #2 on my card and now have setup a new plane 3 on the system. If I want to copy these new setting to plane #1 then I select and copy plane #3 and save it to my card. If I want these new settings to be known as plane 1, then I usually rename the old plane#1 to .e.g. plane1_old and then rename the plane#3 to plane#1. Really dumb to have to do it this way but it works. By renaming the original plane#1, then you have a backup in case something has gone wrong. Of course, if you don't want the backup then you could simply delete the original plane#1 settings and then rename the #3 to #1. Myself, I like to keep a backup until I've actually tested the settings. Thinking of... I wonder if Futaba has changed this in the 18MZ? Probably not. BTW, for real backups, copy the card contents to your PC. Hope this helps.

Just wondering, can you not simply adjust the spring tension? On my 14mz I can adjust the tension to almost where the sticks will not move... ok really. Stiff to move. Just a thought.

RE: mc22 to 2,4ghz?
Hello, Yes it can be done. I converted my mc22 with a futaba hf 2.4 module. Just remove the 35mhz module and plug in the fuaba 2.4 module. I removed the antenna. But it is not really necessary. I used it both as a main transmitter and as a buddy Box for my t-14. Of course you must have a futaba receiver and bind the rec to it. I never noticed any delay in the servo response. But then again, I'm not a jet jockey either- simply fly for fun. Bware though, graupner receivers will not work. Of course you could try one of the 3rd party compatabils but I would only use futaba if you go this way. Another option if you want to go 1st class $$$$$, would be to go with a Wea tronics upgrade. Very very good but many dollarooos! Good luck

RE: Used 14MZ thoughts?
As an owner of the MZ-14, I would go along with the other replies posted here- Go for it! At the end of the last season, I sent mine in to Futaba ( Robbe here in Germany) for a check-up to see what was going on with the touch sensitivity of the screen when adjusting trim and dual rates. Unfortunately, the warantie is only 1 year here so it cost me about 150$ fo the service but wow- they did a complete check, cleaning, upgrade etc. and I'm again looking forward to this coming season! So yeah, if you can get it in the alomost 1K range, then it would be worth it to send it in for a check-up for your confidence and peace of mind. While you're at it, send the receiver too! Of course, it only cost a nickel more to go first class with the latest and greatest MZ-18 ! :-) Good luck.

I recently downlaoded a quasi official repair maual for the 9C, etc. but haven't had a chance to look for something this specific. Maybe they touch on region codes for the 9C,Z? RE: Futaba Region Code
Have you tried contacting Weatronics Support directly for an answer? It's quite possible they might be able to provide a patch for you. Does this only affect transmitters in Canada or is it seem to be for anything outside of Europe with the 12Z or 14Z? Maybe the region cade has to do with the power output of the transmitter or for that matter can Futaba shed any light as to why there is a region code? Will be interested in what comes of this as I too am very keen with Weatronics equipment.

RE: 4 Fried Hitec Servos in a Month
Hello, yes it seems that the very same thing happened to me this past week. I was setting up a new bird using a 5645MG Hitec for my throttle; when doing a test run to check the settings, I suddenly noticed smoke coming from where the servos (choke and throttle) were mounted. Shut off everything and found that the throttle servo had fried at the bottom of the housing (apparently 2 IC chips, 1 on each side). Cannot imagine why it should have happened because it was a servo that I had used in another plane without problems. I'm going to try and contact Hitec over here in Germany to see if they might have any ideas about this. Maybe it's in a certain series and can ber traced by serial numbers (if any) ? I replaced it with another new servo , same type, and have had no further problems. It does make me a bit nervous though. I just lost my 3 mtr competition Krill Katana due to a failure of the Deutsch Battery Backer device. It was supossed to switch over to the good battery if one should go bad. When sent to Deutsch, he said that it looked like the electronic switching circuit had failed and never indicated that anything was wrong. So it ran the battery (Lipo) down , did not switch over and caused the plane to crash at full speed, straight down. Needless to say, I was rather upset. He replaced the unit with apologies but that doesn't replace $4,000 worth of plane and equipment. Goes to show you, you can never be 100% sure despite extra security measures [>:] Should I be able to find anything out about the servos, I'll try to get back to you. Will most likely take a while though. Good Luck!

RE: 4 aileron 4 servo 10x setup
Sorry don't have a 10X but can suggest the following: If you have the luxury of having enough channels you could simply assign each servo to a channel which makes it very easy to adjust individually e.g. 5,6,7,8,; or, you could use a 'Y' on each side connecting the 2 left ail servos to one channel and the 2 right ail to another channel thereby using the standard preprogrammed channels for aileons. In all cases assign the function to the correct stick. Use of the Y connectors makes it easier for assembly and disassembly but you still need to center and set throws for each servo individually Both methods will work- it's just a matter of programming the Tx. Good luck!

However, checking on the Robbe website, I see them still being offered but not yet the 18MZ. The price has not dropped either- it lists at T-14 MZ + R6014 HS 2.4 G M2 2.714,00 € Inkl. Taxes [X(] That's over 3800$$ !!!

RE: Virtual caller
Yes, although no longer in production this is one of the great features provided with the Futaba 14MZ and now followed by the 18MZ. And... it works! Be sure to use an ear plug or a good headset to drown out the noise of other planes flying. I use the ear plug to hear the calls in one ear and from the other to hear if anyone informs me of 'sightseeers' standing at the end or side of the field watching the action. Additionally, I programmed it to use a sound file for various switch actions, eg choke on/off, ail hi/lo, flaps, etc, etc. [8D]Good luck!

RE: Just My Monster Corsair Build Now 124 to 126
HI from Germany. I was pointed to this link hoping you might be able to help me with some diagrams or explanations of how to make the linkage setup for a folding wing on a corsair. Haven't started yet but rather just in the pre-planning stages. I definitely can't build a plane this large but around 100" = 2.5mtr. should be fine. Also still trying to decide which plan set to use for the build. Tendency is towards Ziroli plans. Any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks for any help. Dennis

Giant Scale Corsair Folding Wings
Hello, I am considering a new project this year with building ,most likely, a Ziroli or Meister Corsair. Since I want to do it up completely scale and I would like to try and include Folding Wings. Does anyone have any drawings, photos, instructions on how to accomplish an easy mechanism which lowers and raises, and securely locks the wings in place? I've seen this done at the scalemasters contest and was really inpressed at the effect it had on the crowd and judges. Any ideas, help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Wireless Trainer
Hello, I use the trainer module for my system and it works perfect. My radios are a 14TMZ and a Graupner MX22 with the Futaba 2.4 module. Using my 14TMZ as master and the Mx22 as slave, everything is controlled on the Master. The remote module is plugged into the Master, the link to the planes' receiver is made from the master while the slave is turned off and then the link to the trainer module is made from the MX22. Channels are controlled by a switch which is setup in the trainer program. For that, I referred to the manual. Works like a charm and is great-no cords and you can move around while teaching. Hope it's working for you now! Good luck!

First RC was self made Heathkit (don't remember how many channels- year 1971) with 3 huge servos (motor, rudder, elevator)! Progressed to a Cirrus (actually a Futaba or forerunner of Futaba?) 6 channel with servo reversing. Still have the radio and it still works! Nope, don't use it- just take it out once in a while just for memories of the good old days. Heathkit is long gone. [&o]

RE: Sunlight and 14mz screen contrast
Yes, you make a good point here about the polarized sunglasses.. depending on the angle of the sun to the screen, it will definitely block the screen making it very hard to read. I found with mine, it's sort of an experiment and try to obtain the best result. But beware, the more contrast and brightness you allow for the screen will also drain the battery at a faster rate. Best to have a backup battery charged and ready just in case you run low on juice! BTW, I absolutely love my 14MZ- it is so easy to program!

If you can get a hold on a Graupner MX22, it has all digi trims. Graupner reworks the JR radios to meet Euro specs and puts their name on it. Says Graupner but it really is a JR. I have one but don't like that digi throttle trim at all. I prefer to have the feel of where my idle is set while landing. Also, you can get a 2.4 HF mod which will plug in with no problem. D.
