RE: What would you pay?
One of the things I like to do while charging my lipos is actually watch them. Its the main reason I don't charge in a bag or any container. I do charge on a nonflameable surface but its out in the open so I can see what is going on with the battery. If you watch videos of lipos going up in smoke you'll see a common theme. First they'll puff up, then split open, then ignite. Being able to see when they start to puff up will allow you to cut the current (turn the charger off or pull the plug if the charger is close to the battery) If caught early enough, you've saved yourself a fire and the most you'll have to do is now is dispose of the puffed lipo. If you watch this lipolocker review video you'll see the guy test it out but when he opens it up after his test, it starts to smoke again and he quickly puts the cover back on. He said another cell just went. When its enclosed like that you have no idea whats going on inside. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3M1KfeP7mA&feature=related "And knowing is half the battle" [:D]

ESC just warm.... check Motor able to touch for 3-5 seconds....check Super speed....check From the sounds of it your good now. Unless you have some type of condition that prevents your fingertips from detecting heat [:D] your esc and motor seem to be fine. I think you've answered your own question. Unless there is something wrong with the speed or running time that your getting?

RE: EZRun esc on 3S lipo?
I haven't heard to much about the 60a esc having issues with 3s. What motor you running? Keep the motor within the limits and you should be ok. http://site.hobbypartz.com/hobbywing/HW-13-V2.pdf according to the manual: no less than 8.5t (4000kv) for 3s. Motor might heat up, alot of rpms, but the esc should be ok. The 380 rotor 9t(4300kv) ezrun motor would be ok too.

RE: Car Identification
Its a Tamiya, I'm sure. The tires, front/rear arms, gearbox, steering setup looks from a stadium blitzer. but the chassis with the "down the middle" style battery holder, and what looks like carbon fiber, front and rear shock towers would be from a dyna blaster. So I'm not sure exactly. post it up in the classic section, there's probably some guys in there that know the older stuff better. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_513/tt.htm

RE: Rustler XL-5 with 3S vs Rustler VXL with 6 Cell
I'm not saying the 35a won't run 3s w/the higher Kv motors. It will, but damage caused by pulling to many amps is done over time, not just in one instance. (unless your pulling ALOT over, like 100 amps through the 35 amp esc)It will stress the esc each time, till something gives. Here is a chart I found on ezrun motor amps(one of only a very few I've found) I would be interested in your wattmeter findings to see how accurate these on this page are, so post them up. http://www.giantcod.co.uk/ezrun-4300kv-bushless-motor-p-403297.html As you can see, it shows the 4300kv motor pulling a max of 45amps. It shows max 500watts of power, to get that max power they have to use a 3s lipo. (500watts/11.1volts= 45 amps) It also shows the 12s (12t 3300kv) pulling a max of 35amps, in conjunction with the manual to stay under the 12t motor limit.
OK so u smoked a ESC with thremalshutdown doing speed runs.... over geared????
14/88, might be able to argue undergeared but my normal for 2s was 18/88.
or did that under powered battery smoke the fet? before it thermal protection kicked in?
Though I don't know why you say its "underpowered", other than it being a nimh, it's possible there was some form of ripple current but as far as I know, CC escs were the only ones suffering from those. At least, were the only ones, on forums, being complained about.
lets say a 9cell under load has a max voltage of 10.8v and 5000mah and 7c rating... thats only 378watts... no wonder ur setup failed doing speed runs... did the battery last????
I'm not sure where you're leading with my battery watts leading to the failure. Your figures show the battery capable of 35amps. (378watts/10.8volts= 35 amps) The esc is 35 amps, if the motor is going to pull more than 35 amps from the battery, then the esc is in trouble too. The battery is still working and I sometime still use it with a 60amp esc. Savagecommander wrote:
a nine cell under load is likely much lower than that. probably around 9.5-10v. and i used to run my VXL motor on 4 cells, so id have to say gearing is the issue.
You ran a vxl on a 35amp with 4s? Or is this to someone else? ***Edited because of proof read fail***

RE: Rustler XL-5 with 3S vs Rustler VXL with 6 Cell
Experience and esc manual. Losi xxx-t, 35a 4300kv combo. Smoked an esc fet after about 3 weeks of doing speed runs with just 12.6v(9 nimh cells) Also, the manual states to not run anything under 12t on 3s through the 35a. Sorry, I didn't know if you didn't post in the rustler/slash threads you weren't allowed to talk about esc/motors. [8|]

RE: Rustler XL-5 with 3S vs Rustler VXL with 6 Cell
If your just going to stick to a 6 or 7 cell nimh/2s lipo then I would do this: http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-35a-9t-3650-motor.html or this: esc http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-60a-brushless-esc-for-1-10-car.html motor http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-series-sensorless-brushless-motor.html The 60a esc for the amount of amps the motor will pull(35a esc is only rated to 9t). Also, the 35a on 3s with anything over 3300kv is at its limits and will stress the esc till it lets the magic smoke out. Just to clarify why I offered the 60a esc with the 3930KV motor in my previous post instead of the 35a version.

RE: Rustler XL-5 with 3S vs Rustler VXL with 6 Cell
To much Kv for 3s I'd go with this from hobbypartz: http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-35a-brushless-system-combo.html Or mix and match: esc http://www.hobbypartz.com/ezrun-60a-brushless-esc-for-1-10-car.html motor http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m23-car-3650-3930.html Either way try and stay in the 3000kv range if you plan to run 3s

RE: Tamiya DF-02 - New Motor Help Needed
We're gonna need some more info. What esc does he have?(need to know for motor recommendations) What motor does he have now? What charger does he have now? My advice would be to get a battery first. You might be able to get a BL motor/esc for that budget but that battery will not power any BL well. A lipo battery will give a sense of more power even with a brushed motor. If the charger can't charge lipos though I'm not sure if you can get a lipo and charger with the budget though.

RE: Charging 2 lipos simultaneous with ICE/EQUINOX?
ORIGINAL: Goldenduff Exactly. I haven't looked at the specs of the charger do I don't know it's only a 50w one but it is common....
I had to look it up [:D] Its funny the Duratrax site doesn't list the wattage but I saw quite a few old posts (on various boards) claim it is 120w charger. So this changes everything for the OP. 14.8volts X 5amps= 74 watts As long as you power supply, for your charger, can produce about 75+ watts you could charge them as a 4s in an hour. Since your batteries are rated for a 5c charge you could actually charge them at more amps (and short charge time) if your power supply can handle it.

RE: Charging 2 lipos simultaneous with ICE/EQUINOX?
Just to piggy back on what Golden is saying, to show you what he means, we use this equation. Amps X Volts = Watts Now we know your charger is limited to 50 watts and we know your trying to charge your batteries at 14.8v (4s lipo) so now we can find out how many amps your charger will be able to use, to do so. 50watts/ 14.8volts= 3.4 volts (rounded up) So with 4s, your charger will only be able to charge at 3.4amps max, slower than your 5amp charge for 2s but still slightly quicker than charging both 2s lipos one after the other.

RE: Tekin RX8 Stuttering Problem
What battery/batteries are you running? It sounds like cogging due to the batteries not being able to handle the load. If you can get your hands on a different battery, try those. Since you had this issue from the beginning and now it seems to be getting worse perhaps your batteries aren't up to the task any more. Check to see if they are getting to hot after you run them. Are they puffing? Are they taking full capacity? How close is the discharge rate to the amperage the motor requirement? Getting a battery that claims a discharge rate of 80amps and your motor pulls 80amps is to close and stresses the battery.

RE: Dynamite Dyna-Sport 1500
What are your plans for this battery? For $5 it may not be a bad deal if you have a purpose for it. If you plan to try to use it in , say your TT Phoenix brushless buggy from your sig, I think you just threw your 5 bucks away. 1500mah isn't much, you gotta find out how well it charges, if it takes full charge/capacity. For a low amp application it might be alright (starter box, some classic rc with only a silver can, or converting a toy to use hobby grade equip, etc)

RE: Tamiya wont reverse
You probably need to recalibrate the esc (the part the battery plugs into) If you have the instruction manual for it will tell you how to do so. If you don't have the manual let us know what the brand of esc and radio you have so we can help you. Also like Phoenix XB Racer said, make sure your trim knobs are set to the middle position. Manual can help with that too.
