RE: How did YOU get your start in the hobby?
A kid brought an OK cub .049 to school asking 3.00 for it. I was so intrigued by it I bought it. Got me one of those pint cans of glo fuel and a prop, battery and lighter and fired it up. After watching that thing run I was hooked. Learned to fly R/C in 1970 on a Midwest Tri Squire. I'd sure like to find the plans for that plane, I'd definitely scratch build one.

RE: Why can't we dicipline our kids anymore.
If mom and dad use profanity, the kids think its ok too. Betcha a dollar against a hole in a donut that most kids learn profanity from their mom and dad. I didn't use any profanity when at home when I was a kid cause mom and dad never used it around us. But.... always a but aint there, when I wasnt around my mom and dad or family, I could make a sailor blush!!!!

RE: I'm Dumping The AMA To Save $38 A Year
I think I just got suckered into this $20 Ins. I sent a check without even a question about this enterprise. Live and learn they say, and It's gonna cost me $20 to learn. I'm currently a member of AMA, have been for over 20 yrs. I didn't bite on the last competition of Sport Flyers, I think I got soft in the head as I got older.

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........
It all boils down to whether a kid or an adult has the "want to", to be in this hobby. So many times I've worked with kids and adults trying to teach them to fly and then they lose interest, won't show up when I had free time to help them. I won't ever teach again except for my own grandkids and close friends. I have had people to bring their kid down to the field and tell me they'll be back later and get them. I tell them I'm not their baby sitter and no thanks. If they cant be with their kid while he learns, then I'm not going to be their baby sitter.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
I bought my 1st R/C plane , a Midwest Tri Squire from Duke Fox's hobby shop in Ft. Smith, Ar in 1970. I also bought an EK "little red brick" 3 channel radio and a plain bearing .15 Fox R/C engine. That little engine was a screamer with Duke's missle mist. After learning to fly with it, I bought another one for relaxed flying and built it for looks. I flew that one for years. Finally traded it off at a swap meet and have regretted it ever since. Wish Midwest had never quit building them, a great little plane and excellent trainer.

RE: do Li Poly batteries self discharge
Thanks for all the quick responses to my question. I appreciate very much the ones that took the time to answer my questions. As I've said before, theres a wealth of information on batteries all over the internet, but digging out the information as it pretains to me can mean hours of scouring the posts and threads trying to find my specific inquiry. Thanks Rodney,Aeajr and Barracudahockey.

do Li Poly batteries self discharge
I started to fly my electric plane a few weeks ago and decided to pack up and go home. The wind started gusting up to 25 mph and I didn't want my 1st flight using electric equipment to be done in a hurricane. I am an experience flyer but didn't know the actual power of the electric gear I have since i've never flow with electric before. The battery pack I'm talking about is a Zippy 20C , three cell 2650 Mah. Its been about 5 weeks since that happened. Will the battery still have its full charge or will I have to re-charge it? If in the event I do have to re-charge it, will I have to cycle it down or what is the procedure?

RE: Programming an ESC
ORIGINAL: Glacier Girl Are you following the instructions that came with it? Got the leads plugged into the right sockets? and the right direction? Pretty simple to use. Plug it in, current setting lights up, use the up/down arrow button to scroll to what you want to change, then use the left/right arrow button to change it. Least that's how mine works.[;)]
I discovered my problem VIA another poster on this board. My programming card went kaput, got a new one and everything is fine. Thanks for your input, I need all the help i can get considering I have been a Glo guy for bout a century.

Programming an ESC
I have a Turnigy 80 amp ESC with a BEC. I programmed it with a Turnigy programming card and it works fine. Now I want to change some stuff that I programmed origionally but I can't get the programming card to do anything but show the last programming I did. What steps do I need to take to "re-program" my ESC. It works fine the way it is, but I want to change a govenor setting and different music maybe. Thanks would appreciate any help.

Okay thanks rcacro, I'm very new to electrics and appreciate all the info all the people on this board have given me. RE: Turnigy Plush 80 ESC
I've already ran the motor with the ESC and I did buy a program card for it, just wondered what that little donut thing was on the BEC wire you plug into the throttle port on the receiver.
ORIGINAL: grimmy55 thats what plugs into the receiver of you radio into number 3 the throttle ,it is also to be used to program your ESC you should have bought a program card with your motor you can then make it a soft medium or hard start you can also set the top rev limits on you ESC
Turnigy Plush 80 ESC
I got me a Turnigy 80 Amp ESC with Battery Elimanitor Circuit and it works great. No problems at all. What I want to know is what is that little donut do-hickey with the BEC wires going around and through it. Whats it's purpose?

Music on the BEC???
Where does the music come from, is there a speaker in the electric motor . The 1st time I hooked up my ESC and ran my motor strange sounds came out of the motor. And I fried my BEC cause I didnt put an ammeter in the circuit. It drew a bunch more amps than it shoudda. And that brings up another question, can I just use the "clip around" feature on an ammeter on one of the motor wires. Otherwise i would have to get me some kind of ammeter that I could put in the circuit with the battery and motor.

RE: BEC question
Thanks JD for the info on the ESC/BEC question. I've been flying Glow powered planes since 1970 and this is my first foray into the electric part of the hobby. I may ask a few more stupid questions, but I'm very thankful theres guys like you out there that will help newcomers to electric flight. Thanks again, this has helped me tremendously. BEC question
My Esc says it has a BEC capacity of 3 Amps. Its a R/C Timer brand 40 amp ESC. At what voltage is this BEC going to supply and can it be used to power the flight pack also. I have a 2650 Mah 3 cell Lipo. Will the voltage be too high for a Jr receiver and servos?

R/C Timer Brand ESC
I bought an R/C Timer brand ESC , 40 AMP. I know where the big red and black wires goes, but it has 3 big black wires coming out of the other end that I'm sure is for the motor, but they aren't labeled which goes where. Being an retired electrican for a power company I thought maybe it was like a 3 phase motor, you could put'em anywhere on the motor and if it ran backwards just swap any 2 leads. Am I correct or dead wrong, would appreciate any help. Thanks

I have bought a NIB Magnum 1.80 from the classifieds on R/C Universe. Was wondering if anyone had had any experience with this engine. I have a Magnum .40 and runs great a lots of power, hope this one is as good as the .40. I would appreciate any comments from modelers who have used this engine.

RE: What Plane Would You Want To See Turned Into A Kit?
I would like to see a .60 size Shinden (Magnificient Ligntning), a Japanese expierment that never saw combat in WW2. I have never seen a kit of this odd looking fighter plane, but have seen plans for it. Of course a few changes would have to be made for it to be controlled by the average flyer since I have heard that it is a real bear just to keep in the air when built to scale specs.

RE: ebay and feedback!?!
Yes definitely, ebay has changed the way I buy things. Its a boon to us R/C guys, if all R/C'ers buy as much stuff from ebay as I do, that would keep them in business if everyone else quit them.

RE: ebay and feedback!?!
I bought some software that was advertised to fix any windows problem and soup up my computer. When i got it, I was supposed to run it DOS. I aint seen DOS since the 80's. It was not compatible to any Windows program. I left an unsatisfactory feedback. They sent me several emails saying this was a good seller and my feedback would be detremental to his business. I told them it should be, he misled me and that piece of crap was worthless. So they asked me if I would consider not leaving any feedback at all if he didnt leave any. I agreed, so in essence I never bought anything from him and he never sold me anything.

RE: Club FOX!
I have a fox .15 R/C BB. The piston liner is rusted up a little on the outside and the indside has a "stained" look. I'm wondering if trying to repair this engine is worth the effort. I have ordered new bearings for it. The origional bearings are really rough when I turn the crank. This is the high back engine and a little screamer when it was new.
