ORIGINAL: PylonDave I don't think the Bird of Prey wing is 66-012
Dave, The Original was the Revolution wing. Then Fred cut a 66-012 wing for Lyle. The wing that is sold with the kit today is the 66-012. DK

RE: AR-6 Wing mold construction
ORIGINAL: diggs_74 Well, it's final.. I guess I'm going to find someone with a CNC to cut some molds.. The bottom half of the wing mold is unrepairable.. Especially now.. I had to yell at my dog for trying to retrieve it before I was finished with it.. Yes, I'm a yankee redneck.. I'm still not sure what happened to cause the issues.. Possibly the paint wasn't cured and the solvents broke down the wax.. I guess we'll never know. [link]http://youtu.be/FqY97FZ42AQ[/link]
That is some funny stuff right there!!!! RE: Havok and Rattler....New Q500 Kits
ORIGINAL: HighPlains Well Scat was already taken. Due to the polymorphic nature of Quickie design, little is unique other than the name. Wings somehow crawled from underneath the fuselage to the top side when builders assembled Spickler Quickie 500 kits with the fuselage turned over, V-tail's got put on to hide cheating on engines, and fuselage aerodynamics were evenually developed to lower drag by changing the accepted design practice. The beat goes on.
Agreed DK

RE: Havok and Rattler....New Q500 Kits
Denis, There are other subtle differences. The major being the construction method. I moved away from the 1/64th ply doubler from the nose to the trailing edge and used light ply instead. Changed the servo arrangement, for better CG fit. Changed the construction method for the fuselage to make it next to impossible to build it crooked. DK

RE: Havok and Rattler....New Q500 Kits
ORIGINAL: HighPlains Havok, really? They couldn't come up with an original name?
HaVoK, is what I named it because it is a modified version of my HurriKane. Hence the H for Hurri and the K for Kane, and the V for version. So to answer your question yes it was original. If you had one with this same name, I appologize. DK

RE: Waiting for the release
ORIGINAL: Scorpion Racing Thanks for taking the time to explain some of that Dan & Gary, I am sure we all appreciate that. [;)] So who are the 4 members of the engine approval sub-committee who approve or disapprove the engines? I have been unable to find a list containing the names of any subcommittees for our organization. Why don't we have a current list of the subcommittees, there member contact information and maybe update the approved and not approved list for Q40 aircraft? It is much easier for a CD to find relevant information if he knows where to look! [;)] Thanks, Scott Smith NMPRA 86t
Scott, right now the approved list for airplanes appears on the NMPRA website. It may not be up to date. Jim Allen is working with the AMA to develop new means of communication with regards to lists and committies as it pertains to AMA rules. This is not complete as of yet but it is in the works and when it is complete, all the necessary information will be available to all. DK

RE: Waiting for the release
ORIGINAL: Scorpion Racing Well, no one asked my opinion either, so I guess I can only follow suit or submit a rule proposal to modify the emergency rule change. Let me first say that I AGREE with the new rule and its intent. I applaud the NMPRA rules committee for clarifying the engine rules, providing clear wording for how and when an engine has to be approved or re-approved and for placing wording into the rules to be able to remove a previously approved engine form being ever used again in competition. However, I find fault with only allowing 2 engine manufactures in Q40.
Scott, Just to be clear, the AMA contest board decides on the rules. The NMPRA does not have a rules committee. The NMPRA is the special interest group for the AMA and can have opinions on the rules but cannot change the rules. The NMPRA has the voice of its membership, members wishing to convey their opinions should contact me. As stated to Bill this addendum that was just published was not fly by the seat of your pants decision. It was discussed for the better part of a couple of years. Well before anyone knew that new engines were trying to be produced for the US market. Some people truly don't understand how small our market has become and how fragile we currently are. But that is ok. We are trying keep what we have, with the smallest impact to our current competitiors. DK

RE: Looking for Q40 Foxy Lady
Here is a picture of some of my Miss Foxy Lady models. Left to right: Tim Lime (when he lived in Illinois), Tom Scott (back when he smoked a pipe), Ed Spiker (R.I.P), and Joe Dodd (Grunk has a good story about the airplane Joe is holding. Some day ask him about how Joe got that airplane). DK Edit: Funny thing about the airplane Tim is holding... I cut off the left wing tip on a pylon cross brace, repaired it and loaned it to Tim for the Silver Cup. He then loaned it to Mike McConville who flew it at a race in Florida. It eventually, was re-painted and sold to Glen W. in the Rockford area.

RE: Looking for Q40 Foxy Lady
Kevin this is my Miss Foxy Lady. And is quite different from Harold's. I think I carved this plug in 1991. Jim Gager used to lay up my fuselages and after we stopped producing them. I sent the molds to Don. His hope was to use them for a sport QM class. The airfoil is slightly modified SD6060. No Composite wing No composite tail. DK

RE: NEW Q40 & Q500 Engine by DKT Engines
My comments were in reference to having some at the PHX race in 2012. Based on my knowledge this is not possible. Also your response mentions that it will be released at the end of December in 2012, does this mean you are not selling any motors until this time? In 22 days it will be 31/12/2011. Dan

RE: NEW Q40 & Q500 Engine by DKT Engines
ORIGINAL: djlyon I see on RC Network in a post by Gerald Coors that flight test of this motor will be started soon by at least 3 well known pylon racers from Australia, USA and Italy. Also there is an indication that the motor may be raced in the Q40 classic in Phoenix in 2012 pending it's approval by AMA/NMPRA. Draketuned do I have this right? Denis
As of today this motor is NOT legal for competition under AMA rules. (I am not saying anything other than it is not legal today). The AMA rules governing approval of engines for use in AMA event 422 have recently changed. IT would be extremely difficult to get this motor approved by Feb 2012. Therefore, I don't see this happening. I am not saying it couldn't, it is highly unlikely. And if anyone is planning on traveling to the US for the PHX competition, you must check the rules prior to arriving with any motor other than the currently approved Jett or Nelson motor. DK

RE: Carbon Slipper
Dave, I see no issues with the Carbon Slipper. However, with the Long stroke and it's necessity to have a heavy spinner, it might be wise to go to a 1.75" spinner rather than a 1.5" spinner. When you say Minnow, do you mean low wing or mid wing? One thing to consider, is the landing gear placement. Keep in mind that your AR-6 has the gear in the wing and if you go to a Dural gear with a narrower track some of the good take off habits will go away. Not all but some. Hence why I designed the LOKI and moved away from the Polecat. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Did you get the wife's car rolling???? DK

RE: Hurrikane Build Thread
RE: SEEKER/HurriKane and SNAKER/Venom Yes Gary and I had previously discussed this. And Yes there was a slight change when I converted the tail from the HurriKane to the Venom due the changed shape of the fuselage at the rear. (I knew this but accepted it as I didn't think it would make a big difference, as I would never set a tail without checking it's incidence relative to the wing.) I am not 100% sure what that dimension change is, but I don't remember it to be as large as 1/8". The drawings and cut files were updated. New Kits should be accurate. The Snaker was drawn after, this change was noted. Therefore, from what I remember I incorporated this into Snaker. Out of all the models I have built, any of the 4, I never had an incidence problem. Please check your incidence when securing the tail. DK

RE: Avionik DO6 problem??
Henry, When I built my D06, I simply enlarged the front hole in the Horizontal stab, and straightened the Vertical with relation to the fuselage. You defenately do not want left rudder. Not a big deal. I use 15 minute epoxy to glue my tails on, this gives you enough time to move things into position to make sure all is straight. DK

RE: VIPER 500 SWITCH MOUNTING
This is a servo tray for a QM40 But the same principle applies. I use a paper clip through a hole drilled in the switch to actuate it. I use a paper clip because it is soft and easy to bend plus you don't end up stabbing yourself with the cut end of piano wire, if you choose to use piano wire. String works well too. You still drill a hole through the switch and pull the string through, knot each side so when the string is pulled it grabs the switch. The string exits the airplane on both side with enough length that it can't fall inside and you pull from one side to turn it on and pull from the other to turn it off. DK
