RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
Hi Ron: I'm bulding the Balsa USA Super Cubslowly! I used those covers on my 1/4 scale J3 and they looked great. Spend some time exploring "The Cub Den", it's a very informative site. Bob K

Look at these bungee covers! http://www.thecubden.org/store/thecubdenstore.html I'm following your build with a lot of interest. I've started on one also. Bob K

RE: Ace GLH-II WOOT!!
Your personal experience and mine are different. I had a police radar unit time mine at 199+ The unit did not go any higher. Newer ones might. The prop I used was not an APC. The prop you see in the picture was used after the Graupter (sp?) was no longer to be had. As to RPMmy ace (analog) tach only went to 25k. The needle was pegged before the airplane went on the pipe in the air. Let's stop this sillyness and stick to the original question. No one needs to impress anyone here. The point of all this is the original question of what engines might go into the GLH I think I answered that question. Bob K

RE: Ace GLH-II WOOT!!
By your reasoning a modern FAI pylon racer can't go that fast either. Drag is the biggest component of the velocity equation. Pitch speed does not take into account the lift produced by a prop. FINI

Now I'm into turbines. That GLH has not flown in 10 years. It had about 75 flights. It gets a little dusty sitting in a crawl space. BUT, it was fun! Bob K

RE: Ace GLH-II WOOT!!
If you make some modifications such as: Get rid of the foam top and replace it with cross grained 1/16 balsa. Use 1/16 ply for the bottom in the nose laminate 1/32 ply inside the balsa sides. Use carbon fiber to reenforce the wing mount a strong elevator servo behind the wing Mount a Rossi 21 with a tuned pipe and a 7/5 prop And You will have a genuine 200MPH airplane. of course it's no longer a 1/2a airplane. Be sure you have experience with fast airplanes Bob K

RE: Where would you prefer to live in Florida??
Dear Icepilot: Before you move permanently, try out several areas. With the housing situation now in Florida it is easy to rent for short terms. Hop around the state, look at many different areas, then decide. When you do decide, rent for 6 months to a year, then buy. This way you avoid expensive mistakes. Bob K

RE: Jet 1A nose gear slow
Hi Dave: I'm using a Jet Tronics 'M' valve to a 3mm feisto 'T'. One inlet from the Jet tronics, one outlet to the nose gear and one outlet to the mains. After I released the pressure at the 'T' several times it seemed to get better. After I used a small amount of silicone spray on the rod coming out the back of the retract unit it seemed better still. It's banging down now with the same authority as the mains. I hope to fly tomorrow (Sunday here in NJ). That will be the ultimate test. If it's still not locking down I will replace the 3 way feisto. My installation is not the neatest so the connector is hard to get to. Thanks again for your expertise. Bob K

Hi Joe: Thanks, I do have a can of that stuff. I tried it on the shaft that comes out the back of the unit and it seems to move easier now. The proof will be in the airhopefully tomorrow. Bob K

Hi Harley: Thanks for the quick reply. Dave's idea seems to have worked but I am interested in the lubeing idea. Which oil do you suppose is closest to the BVM stuff. I know he just repackages and I have a lot of the other oils on hand. Bob K

RE: Jet 1A nose gear slow
Hi Dave: Thanks for the quick reply. I tried loosening the mount and that made no differencest was a good idea, I'm into simple solutions. Next I opened a 3 way feisto fitting after the solenoid and that did the trick. The gear banged down quite rapidly and locked securely. The mains work off this same feisto and were satisfactory but now they all work the same. somewhere there is a slight hold up when the solenoid releases air. I just need to discover where. Thanks Bob K

Jet 1A nose gear slow
Hi guys: The nose gear on my Jet 1A retracts is slow to lock down on releasing the air. It does not always come all the way down and lock. This results in a gear folding on landing. The main gear does fine. They snap open and closed with no problem. Plenty of air pressure. The mains work down to 40 pounds just fine. The nose gear is sluggish. My question is, should I use a small amount of lube in the nose gear. I have 3 in 1 , air tool oil and small aluminum engine storage oil that I use for glow fuel engine after run oil. I also have auto air conditioner oil. The spring seems like it could use some lube but, I don't want to foul up the system. Thanks Bob K

Hi Ronnie: Will your tank have a baffle in it to prevent sloshing and surging? I would think that with a 3+ L tank this would be a necessity. Bob K

RE: SuperReg and Cellpro 10s incompatibily
This is the latest from FMA on the Cellpro. Don't get me wrongit is a great charger but, this common ground problem is, I imagine, quite common (no pun intended). Hi Nathan: I imagine you mean for me to make a "Y" connector for the node connectors. Then I would not be able to balance all four cellsAm I thinking correctly? Bob K - Original Message - From: Nathan Gwozdecki Sent: Monday, October 06, 2008 11:51 PM Subject: RE: Cellpro 10s Reverse polarity? Hi, See if the smart fly regulator will parallel the two packs on the positive side too. If it does, then you can charge both packs as a 2 cell 2P battery on channel 1. The 10S is a series charger. It could have been designed to charge parallel or series, but it is too late for that now. At least the charger errors out and protects itself from damage J Thank You, Nathan Gwozdecki Design Engineer, FMA Inc.

Thank you for your super fast reply! I am sending this on to Nathan at FMA. Perhaps they can get around this. If not, I will just 'bite the bullet' and disconnect one battery. Thank you Bob K

SuperReg and Cellpro 10s incompatibily
I have a Smart Fly SuperReg installed in my jet. I use 2 Apogee 2200mAh 2 cell batteries plugged into the SuperReg. When I try to charge the batteries using the node connector on the Apogee batteries I get a "reverse polarity" error message. I can charge either battery on one input of the Cellpro 10s but, not both together. When I disconnect the batteries from the SuperReg the Cellpro works fine and charges both batteries at once as it is supossed to. The regulator is buried deep inside the jet and it is very inconvient to disconnect the batteries from the SuperReg. I have talked to Nathan at FMA many times and am on my second Cellpro. Bob K

US dealer for Jet 1A retracts
Hi Guys: I can't find a dealer in the US who handles Jet 1A retracts. I bought mine from Jetpower last fall and now they tell me they no longer handle them. Digitech in Europe handles them but the shipping is out of sight. Bob K

which regulator for a jet
I am putting together a Composite ARF Rookie with a JetCat P-80 (21lbs thrust) in it. I'll have 4, possibily 6, Hitec 5955's and several other high(not quite as high) torque servos in it. I'm told this will be a 200mph airplane. Is the Super Reg enough or should I go with the Turbo Reg? Thanks Bob K
