Ufly pinion gears
Has anyone found a good source for pinion gears for the Ufly? That .4 mod seems to unique.

All of the comments regarding "users to better protect their PC's" are valid and correct. It is not uncommon for a bug to slip through. BUT... IT IS STILL THE REPONSIBILITY OF THE SITE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE SITE. This was reported to RCU on 2/20 (or perhaps earlier). If it has in fact been corrected, it took at least 3 weeks. Not acceptable. And lets not forget how often we wait for 5 to 10 minutes for the site to actually open in our browsers only to get the old "timed out" error. Either your "large IT team" is totallay inept or they just don't give a %#@&. RCG is making this claim - "Hey we just did the math and we're juuuust under 10,000 posts per day! ...and our nearest rival (RCU) is getting just over 2,000 posts/day according to big-boards.com." I can believe it. I'm not getting time outs at RCG. I'm not getting virus alerts. Sorry RCU - I'm gonna say a few goodbyes the I'm outta here.
ORIGINAL: dunkonu23 Jerry told me about this about a week ago. I've not had anything except that stupid ad that pops up something that looks like it's your computer scanning itself and finding tons of virus. RCU needs to get rid of that ad. It's stupid to keep something around like that. Besides, at the end of its run, it wants to download something. Dangerous. Nothing found after that goes with a full system scan in safe mode. Scott
Nope - not a "your system needs to be scanned" scam - it's an actual virus. I did a system scan this morning and it somehow made it through and was on my system. RCU was first notified Feb 20? I think a month is about long enough to get it fixed.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Jerry - AVG has been warning me for about a week now. I'd say 50% of the time it warns a file is a trojan, I isolate the suspect file, and the page opens fine. Take a look here - [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10350318/tm.htm[/link] Appears it was a real threat and not a false trigger. I'm guessing it's one or more the ads on the page. They (the admins at RCU), think it has been fixed. But to be safe, if you get another warning, assume it's still real and don't try to byass it. You might also do a complete system scan just to make sure no little nasties have crept through your security. (probably a good idea foe everyone here - I did one yesterday.)

I'd be impressed then! Chuck
Walkera makes a 4#6 fixed pitch with a drive shaft tail (the main is a small brushless motor). It's been around longer than the Ufly so I guess that makes my Ufly a larger vesion of the 4#6. Heading hold tail. Probably very much like a smaller guru with a shaft instead of belt. My brother has one (I did my first nose in his bedroom with the 4#6). If you are serious about a small indoor heli, I give it a big thumbs up (unless you wanna spend the bucks on a CP). [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkEqACliirc[/link] Just tried to log in at youtube - and it tells me I have to create an account at google. First thing I see is it auto selected to track my web activity - I'm not sure I want to sign up for an account when they default to that. Has anyone else done this? I don't use google for anything - not my search engine, no email there - nothing. Does it create another email account I'll never use? Does it install that stupid google tool bar? Does it change my home page or modify my settimgs so now default search engine is google? To be honest, I'm leaning towards moving all my videos to the one Max uses (vimeo?). Welcome back Dave. He made one record under that name in 1958 and it was a HUGE hit - [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9H_cI_WCnE[/link] When his acting jobs started getting hard to find, he went back to his singing career and started doing parody recordings of hit songs (he was the original Wierd Al Yankovich). Ok - No wind this morning so I got a little brave and moved the weights in on the Ufly flybar. I must say I do feel a difference with that heli. Still flyable, but but a little less stable and a little more twitchy. I think I'll stay with "normal" for now. *note* - When I first got the Ufly I put a metal flybar on - same as the Falcon - and found it was waaaayyy to twitchy for me and went back to carbon fiber.
ORIGINAL: thehuntingterminator and by the way, car guys are alot nicer :)Â
The term you're looking for is troll - unfortunatly there are lot's of 'em in all forums in general nowadays. There are those of us who are happy to share whatever knowledge and experience we have, and then are those who think the best way to look smart is to try to make other peole look dumber than them. I spent roughly 30 years flying planks before I decided to venture into the rotor part of the hobby. My local hobby store didn't carry much of anything when I first started helis (now they have the really cheap, tiny coax toys) so there was no help there. At the time at my club there was only one part time heli pilot so no help there. I was like you, I got into a forum, tried to read the threads and asked questions. I don't see anything wrong with your original post, aside from the question does get asked a lot. Sad part is when someone wastes your time to tell you that answering your question would be a waste of time. Best advice I think I can give you is once you find a heli go to the elect heli forum and look for a sub-forum for your bird - there are sub forums for t-rex, walkera, esky, etc. You'll find you get fewer of the useless smart-a$$ answers in the the smaller sub-forums.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Last Nov/Dec we went about 3 weeks with 2 to 4 inches of snow that turned to ice and temps that stayed in the teens. Lots of power failures. 3 transit buses in Seattle and Tacoma slid on the ice and rolled over. Too cold to even walk over to the school, much less try to fly. And I'm guessing most of the East Coast would love to only have 4 inches of snow/ice and temps in the teens. Chuck - repairs are a bummer (especially the tail boom) but 10 seconds in a confined area is waaay cool. I hope I didn't come across like you're doing it wrong trying to take off nose in. I tried that at first but I was stuck with either grass or a parking lot and the training gear wouldn't slide at all, so I was forced to do plan B. I agree it's cool to watch somebody else do it, but not sure I'll ever be able to.

Chuck – You’re a bit ahead of me as far as nose-in takeoff. I tried it last time we had decent weather and crashed before I was really off the ground. I don’t think there’s a need to learn how (except when it’s the method used to learn nose-in) so I’ll pass. It looks to me like what’s holding you back is space. By the time you think “I gotta go right and feed in left stick, it’s too late and you have to power down. I went through that trying to nose-in in the front yard and I had a little more room than you. I bet if you were in open field it’d only take a few tries.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
oops - my bad. I remembered last night that a couple times my ufly has done something wierd. After I turned everything on and waited for binding to finish, I noticed the blades on the tail were very slowly changing pitch with no input from me. I moved the stick a little and centered the blades, and watched them very slowly change pitch again (the servo arm was slowly moving ccw). The first time I unplugged the batt, turned off the xmitter and gave the heli a real good visual check. Everything looked ok so I turned it back on and all was fine. It happened a few times again weeks later and I just turned it all off and on and re-binding fixed it. It's a long shot but you may be seeing the same type of thing? Other than that, has anything changed since last time? replace or adjust gyro, servo, etc? I hate stuff like this - it worked ok yesterday, nothing is broke but it won't work today. Sometimes I get the feeling it's because there's an "H" in thursday. During the short time we simmed together, Max did some very controlled nose in and even some inverted hover. If the "Ice Age" up where he is ever ends, watch out.

RE: Struggling with single rotor basics V2
Chuck - I'll give you what little answer I can... My brother put the EZ blades on his falcon, and had some real trouble with the tail. I'm making kind of a guess but it appears those EZ blades have a lot more pitch/bite so you hover at a lower throttle. The lower throttle means the tail is also running at lower throttle - but the the tail still has the original blades that don't bite as much as the EZ mains which means the tail can't keep up. Keep in mind his falcon is/was a motor drive tail. He was using the original gear drive tail motor. He went to the GWS direct drive tail system and although he had to add a lot of trim it would hold, barely. I'm pretty sure the EZ blades would have the same effect on the Ufly. I'm really guessing here and hoping others will chime in, but I would look at 2 options. Can the gearing to the belt drive tail be changed? Maybe, but I wouldn't want to go there. Can you get bigger blades for the tail? Some people claim to have put trex 450 blades on the tail of the ufly (just to make it handle better - go figure), maybe that's an option for you? Again, I'm just guessing based on what I saw on his.

I was in the gym, and he ws sitting there with the aileron trainer - there's not enough room to fly that in the gym. As you just said, he was at every field. Sometimes his plane would move a few feet them re-appear where he started, sometimes he was actually flying. The biggest problem is my camera was always locked on his plane - I could only see mine if he actually managed to get close to it. I couldn't fly at all, just watch him. RE: Walkera 4-6 or Ufly??
They are pretty much the same thing except for size. The Ufly would handle better outside in a slight breeze. The 4-6 would be better inside in a more confined space. And as already said when you start to actually fly the ufly will get small quick enough, the 4-6 would be harder to see. I bought my Ufly from wow - it was a modified "super" version. The servos they put in it were a piece a crap and didn't work right from day one. When I first powered up they would freeze and make a loud buzz for about a minute. They would freeze up mid flight and cause a crash. Here's a video of the start up sequence - [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZA8DjGrtUk[/link] The esc/bec was defective from day one - power would fail mid flight and the heli would drop like a rock. When I approached them they told me it was perfectly normal for the servos to make that noise and I didn't know how to fly. They put in an off brand esc and a different receiver so to correct all of the problems I had to buy new servos, a wakera speed control and the correct receiver. My $250 heli turned into just short of a $400 heli before it would fly right. The Ufly is an ok heli, but my experience is wow hobbies has zero customer service and they modify the heli and put on cheap crappy parts - I would say stay the heck away from them.
