RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
ORIGINAL: namewasdallas less rpm = more torque.
Not on brushless motors. ;) Even the tekin prez says (unlike brushed motors) that the only way to change the torque on a BL motor is to go to one of the new 4-pole designs, which was their whole point in that design. Otherwise, other than a minor change in torque as a result of changing the gearing, bl motors of the same manufacturer have basically the same torque rating (according to their own testing)

RE: first day with my new ruckus!!!
ORIGINAL: dunning3075 Got my ruckus today while I was at work. Ran home and plugged my prophet plus 2 charger plugged the battery in, fixed the antenna on the control , installed batteries in the control, and put the antenna sleeve on. I went back to work and waited patiently for the day to end. Got home installed the battery on my first rc and wow. This thing is so much fun. Fast out the box and easy to drive. With the stock battery I was ripping up the driveway slinging gravel and having a blast. Hit a small ditch in the front yard a few times and caught some air. Went to get something to eat and found my self looking at parking lots looking for places to run my new truck. I am so ready to start upgrading this thing. Wish there was a local track. This is the best 129.00 Ive ever spent. Already adicted and looking for my next rc.
1) No offense, but you don't need to start a new topic every time you do something with your ruckus (I think you're up to at least 2), IMHO. 2) You should NOT be charging any battery and leaving it unattended, unless your long term plan is to burn down your home.

RE: Thunder Tiger Phoenix Xb
ORIGINAL: gearhead91 Hey guys, Im newer to rc cars but not a complete noob. i mean i dont know every thing about them but i believe i have the basics down. i have been shopping for a r/c car of my own and after lots of searching i settled for a Check out HeliProz for all your Thunder Tiger rc heli needs. We are the experts! Thunder Tiger Phoenix Xb 1/10th. now is this a decent buggy for a "beginner" like me and for the price? is there anything ya'll guys would suggest as "needed upgrades"? i will be using this buggy on a homemade track racing against my father, uncle, cousin, ect. and i hope to one day become more competive, but for now will this work for my needs? This is the one i bought from Tower Hobbies, paid 160, www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p also is there a link anyone can provide that explains the different classes of rc racing. Example- like Stock class and what the requirements are to run in the stock class or does every track have there on set of rules. Thanks much appreciated
Just so you know, Thunder Tiger is the "parent company" (owner of) Team Associated. Can't say for sure, but it appears the buggy you have bought is a re-release of Associated's outdated RC10B3 buggy, it's about a 10-year-old design. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit outdated - but probably fine for someone looking to get into the hobby. Your real problem, as I see it, is parts-support - as they won't have anything at your local hobby shop, and I don't see that Tower is even carrying anything for it. Since you asked about racing, and particularly "stock class racing" - while most tracks have their own rules, and maybe they'll let you run (or at the very least in the Rookie or Sportsman Class), most classes are broken down relative to the motor you're running. And the included 3900kv motor is way faster than what's used in the Stock Class which has a 2200-3300kv limit (depending on the track). Best thing you can do is consult your local track where you plan to race.
ORIGINAL: filly.bluntz thanks for the reply but the thunder tiger comes with brushless model 3300kv motor and on youtube other people have them with powerful brushless motors
Simply put, a 3300kv BL is a relatively mild motor - meanwhile the one you chose is at the entire other end of the spectrum (speed, power, and TORQUE-wise). Just because "other people" do things doesn't mean you should. If you do, then you have to live with the consequences - as you have done in tearing up your truck.

RE: Batman's Tumbler
ORIGINAL: brchri Hello, I'd like some advice on how to turn a diecast model into a working RC car. I've been a lifelong Batman fan, and now that my wife and I are nearing the birth of our firstborn, I've decided to put together a nice RC version of the Tumbler. While there are RC models of the unique batmobile, none are very well reviewed. Instead of throwing away money on a cheap toy, I'd like to invest in a quality diecast model, and mate it with a chassis and motor that can carry the weight. I'm not an avid RC hobbyist, but I'm determined to finish this project. Here is a link to the model Tumbler I'm thinking of buying. If anybody has any ideas or advice for me, please post. I would very much appreciate the help! http://www.amazon.com/Wheels-Elite-Dark-Knight-Batmobile/dp/B003A2IJDA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1297556693&sr=1-1 Brian.
Honestly, until you're "an avid RC hobbyist" it seems that taking on any such project will have you in way over your head. You've got to understand, and be familiar with, at least the basics before you'd posess the basic abilities of taking on any such project.

In this hobby that's called "brand-ho-ing" - which, while still not particularly good, is better coming from someone with a wide range of diverse experiences but definately not good coming from someone with only single-brand (minimum models) experience.

RE: Newbee question
ORIGINAL: pej2020 Is it possible to convert a 4wd drift car to an off road? I have worked in the auto industry all of my life and know how to do it to a real 4wd auto. RC is new in my blood and I am iching to try it. I think the 4 wheel drifter would be great off road because of the speed and drive line, I am thinking of trying the larger off road tires and wheels but unsure if they will fit the 1/10th car. I have searched the net and found nothing so I am here to ask the pros. Thank.
Being as most drift cars out there are based on on-road cars, I really don't think that it being a drifter is going to give it any real advantage over any other of the many options out there and actually would give you fewer options. Going to larger off-road buggy/truck style wheels and tires are going to limit your options even more due to fitment issues. Personally, I think you should be looking at some of the more rally-specific models (like from Tamiya for example), especially since you're new, and get your foot in the door of the hobby and learn a little about it before getting carried away and trying the impossible.

RE: SLIPPER CLUTCH
Don't know your truck - but, generally, if you strip a spur gear (and the mesh is correct) it's from the slipper being too tight, and if you melt a spur gear it's from the slipper being too loose. That being said, and again not being familiar with your truck (or it's quality or lack there of), my other concern would be that your 4-pole has way more torque than the driveline can handle since your truck comes with a comparatively puny 19T motor.
