RE: Looking For Hand Tool Must Haves
a hammer, and plenty of c-4, to restart projects. filler putty and paint for the "good enough" jobs. just kidding George. Seriously just buy the tools as/when you need them. Tanque shows a good list but you may never need all that. just get it when you need it or are planning a project that you think requires something more then what you have. how detailed and meticulous you are will determine many special tools. i just use a bastard file, hammer, drill press, and clamps to get what i need. lol

RE: Tamiya DMD and CH.1
ORIGINAL: CountChocula Well all, again, thanks for all the advice you have given me so far. I put CH.1 into the 'aux' slot on the ''orange'' rx and that seems to have done the trick. The receiver has power and it doesn't interfere with any needed functions. kclank, I checked for any obvious obstructions and couldn't/can't find any. Since

RE: Tamiya DMD and CH.1
ORIGINAL: CountChocula Thanks for the info, unfortunately, I can't use a Y splitter on this project as I can't have the power changing on the two motors. I'm using a solid axle through both gearboxes to get a positive track affect. I use a Y splitter on my HT as I need the tracks to assist in steering. In this case, I can't have one motor slow or even a super spin effect to take place. I always need both gearboxes to always maintain the same power forward and reverse. I may switch back to my old FM radio for now for testing so I can eliminate the radio as a cause to my dmd quitting. Thx again all. Dave
Cut the signal wire from the DMD. That way you will have power. using a "y" splitter should complete the connections you want. as for the radio i use 2,1,3,4 for my 2.4 spectrum radios instead of the more common 1,2,3,4 for FM and AM radios. you could also get power to the DMD by hooking up your rudder straight from the battery, thru a switch, if required. As far as the fwd/rev functions the only thoughts i have are: 1. reprogram the dmd using more abbreviated throttle movements during programming. 2. is there anything else on the throttle signal wire that might be stealing power, and check that there is no mechanical drag or interference on the motors or tracks (like a track pin sticking out that catches in reverse. hope this helps.
ORIGINAL: Eggman1965
ORIGINAL: kclank I was thinking of using the recoil unit from a VStank Sherman. Nice compact size and looked like a great potential for using with smaller 1:16th tank builds and mods. So i take it apart and low and behold there is no motor unit or solenoid to move the barrel into battery. Every thing is there including a micro switch, and a smooth working barrel

Hey VS tank guys
I was thinking of using the recoil unit from a VStank Sherman. Nice compact size and looked like a great potential for using with smaller 1:16th tank builds and mods. So i take it apart and low and behold there is no motor unit or solenoid to move the barrel into battery. Every thing is there including a micro switch, and a smooth working barrel spring combination. Can someone enlighten me as to what "moves" the gun tube into battery. so to be clear the unit is a plastic case, spring, gun tube, micro switch, 3 sets of wires with plugs (i think one is for the firing IR and there is a LED in the gun tube but no flaming motor drive. How do these work in a 1:25 Sherman or Tiger?

Very nice work. one historical question which is not really relevant. I do not recall ever seeing Zim. applied to sheutzen. Did they do that? The workmanship is top drawer.

RE: asiatam stug 4 conversion kit
well this project is getting interesting. very few things fit as i would envision. it almost appears that the Stug upper was made for a Tamiya lower and my HL lower is slightly bigger in length (1/8"). The drivers casement has no chance of fitting as cast. the radiator vents are off, the casement top needed to be trimmed. It goes on and on. BTW does anyone have a picture or two of how the main gun trunnion assy. fits together. the instructions (not) only list the parts and then tell you to assemble them. nothing that shows part orientation. My advice for this kit is avoid it like the plague since it is more work to modify then it would have been to make from scratch.

RE: Tamiya DMD T-03 - doesn't work properly PROBLEM SOLVED
ORIGINAL: yellowshaker Are you absolutely sure that the reciever is plugged in correctly? Sound slike that might be the problem. Or...motor leads are in the wrong configuration. Again, a possibility. I would recheck these things first, as the rudder tim should hardly ever need to be touched on the tamiya.
sounds like motor leads to me also

RE: casting material
ORIGINAL: Baron Fel Dose not work. very uneven expansion. Baron
can you describe the parts you wanted to cast, techniques you used and describe the thicknesses involved. it makes sense to me that thicker sections vs. thinner sections would expand at different rates so i would expect some distortion. how much did you try to grow? did you do interim steps to make new molds after some level of growth to avoid some distortion? what ever info you have even if a failure i would appreciate knowing. i have some projects that i would like to experiment with. i had already planned on a level of distortion. i would like to see if i can control or mitigate that distortion. If answering these questions is a pain I will understand. If the story is complex a PM will be ok to. let me know. thanks.

RE: E-75
ORIGINAL: Panther F Hmmm, I always thought the T-44 had an 85MM gun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-44 At least that's what I have read. The town navigation with an SU-100 had to be even worse for that long Naval gun. At least with a turret it can be rotated to avoid buildings. [:D] So when are these beasts going to be completed? ~ Jeff
several versions of the 86, a 122 prototype and a 100 T-44-100 (1945) – Prototype fitted with a new modified turret which would allow fitting the 100 mm D-10T gun or 100 mm LB-1 gun. The tank carries 36 rounds for the 100 mm tank gun.[12] This prototype had the 12.7 mm DShK anti-aircraft heavy machine gun fitted to the loader's hatch, 6 mm thick sideskirts protecting the sides and two cylindrical fuel tanks in the back giving it a fuel capacity of 1035L. The longer tank gun barrel increased the overall length of the vehicle to 8.04 m. The new turret, new armament and the sideskirts made the vehicle heavier as it weighed 34.55 tonnes.

RE: E-75
ORIGINAL: MAUS45 You could use telescoping brass or aluminum tubing from K & S they sell longer lengths.
they are not normally tapered so filling the steps would be necessary. last resort only in my humble opinion.

RE: E-75
ORIGINAL: Baron Fel Heading to Danville Va tomorrow to pick up a couple of King Tigers for my E-100 and King Tiger/ E-75 Hybrid. I want to do the long gun on the E-75 but can't find a barrel long enough. I was told by a fellow tanker to use a fishing rod to make the gun. My question is how? Are there hollow fishing rods out there that I don't know about?  Baron
most of the light to medium weight poles are rolled composite material and they are hollow. if there are flea markets, swap meets, second hand stores in your area you often can find old rods there. don't need to buy new. Also check with a local sporting goods store to see if they have any damaged rods. a broken tip is not good for fishing but can make a decent gun tube. if there are any custom rod makers in your area they may have old blanks to look at.

Germans were not the only ones with wild ideas, and the prototype T34 with the 100mm gun actually was constructed and tested. It was evaluated too powerful for the chassis. RE: Tech Shop
ORIGINAL: Jeff489 <a target=''_blank'' href=''http://techshop.ws/''>TechShop is getting ready to open in my area.  Looks to be a tank scratchbuilder paradise for fabricating unique parts.  Full access for 100 bucks/month.  I am already planning many projects once a local Tech Shop opens.  CMC lathe, vacuum casting, laser cutter, 3d scanner. 3d printer...drool.  The potential is endless.  I'm already scheming how to 3d scan and print a 1/16 upscale of my favorite 1/35 scale tank.  Sigh...I may have to cancel my cablevision and telephone to afford it, but...it might be worth it.  Anyone else belong to one of these?  They seem to be spreading...slowly. Anyways, I just thought I'd tip you all off.
used to belong to the on in the SF bay area. the cost start running up as you pay safety and training fees to access their equipment. not a bad deal but more expensive then you might think and the hours of operation often were not compatible for me.
