Ziroli AT6 rudder help - pull-pull or pushrod??
Hi, working on the Ziroli AT6, how are you guys actuating your rudder, pull -pull or with a push rod and what seems to be working the best? I'm intend to mount all my servos just ahead of the C of G to less any nose weight required[8D], I am using a G62. thanks in advance - ken k.

RE: The Best P-51 Mustang
I think you will get more satisfaction flying your P-51 than having a potential lawn ornament or HQ (hangar queen) that looks really nice & scale but weighs a ton! the H9 or Top Flite arfs will do very nicely and fly very well. An ex 104 pilot at our field has this saying " a man on a galloping horse at 10' away" will not see ...... what he means is that once the P51 is up in the air, no one at the field will see the rivets and panel lines but will most will remember a well flown P-51 demo flight. Good luck! ps one mustang in the air is worth two on the ground. [image]http://www.upaero.com/warbirds/kk_tt2.jpg[/image] . panel lines yes, rivets can you see them [image]http://www.warbirdregistry.org/p51registry/images/p51-4463864-main.jpg[/image] . how about the panel ines in this photo [image]http://www.linternaute.com/actualite/magazine/photo/des-avions-font-leur-show-a-duxford/image/mustang-font-paire-253281.jpg[/image]

RE: Dynaflite 81
HI, I test flew my Dynaflite Spitfire with the US 41 engine and a 18x10 prop. The plane fliew very well and lands good. I needed 3 oz of nose weight . The total all up weight less fuel is 16.5#, my wings are sheeted. I used 3/4 oz cloth and z poxy then latex paint. Robart 630 retracts. Robart 3.75" wheels. I'm pleased with the flight performance so far. I need to add on the scoop and wheel pants and paint the front canpoy frame. The paint scheme is Battle of Britain, MK II, Pilot Officer George Corbett, more history at www.upaero.com/georgecorbett.html cheers -ken k.

Oshkosh AirVenture - you have to go
I'm on a mission to get rcer's to Oshkosh, I started going every year since 2002 (missed07) and I have to tell you , it is the best! 10,000 airplanes, 100's of warbirds, 25,000 campers on site and much, much more. I enjoy the week long event so much, that I have to share my fun. [b]If you have never camped at AirVenture, I've written a free camping guide at [link=http://upaero.com/oshkosh.html]Free Oshkosh AirVenture Camping Guide[/link][/b] The "warbirds in review" program at 11am and 1pm are outstanding, below are photos of German Ace Gunter Rall and P47 pilot Shorty Rankin - 60+ years after a dogfight. and you literally inches away when some of those warbirds when they taxi by. cheers -ken . RE: Warbird Instrument panels - free
Hi G-Pete, sometimes the former for the panel in the kit or arf is a different size then the actual full size instrument panel. I usually get the builder to trace the former outline that I can scan so that the created instrument panel fits the model former. Feel free to build on what I have started. I also make the dial faces a bit larger than scale to give the panel a bit of a look when one views through the canopy, quick and dirty panels for those that fly sport scale. How about them Cowboys, they going to make the playoff in 09? cheers -ken

Skippyspad - I'm partial to mustangs plus my daughter moved to Colorado, so I'd like to try the Sig mustang, I sent you a pm on what I need.. Years ago when I first started r/c , Roger a buddy started with me, the second year he had that mustang, flew great, then the rx battery dies and that was the end of her, we did not know much about peak charging and cycling back then as we do now. thanks all for the kind words on the panels. cheers - ken

Warbird Instrument panels - free
I created these instrument panels for my r/c buddies and am offering them for all RCU warbird flyers to repay all the advice I have received over the years. See my web page at [link=http://upaero.com/panels.html]warbird instrument panels[/link] Save the image, print to size, trim and paste to your former - they are fun scale but give a nice "look" to your cockpit. I'll keep adding more instrument panles as my club members send me requests and the former outlines. cheer - ken sample below [image]http://upaero.com/panels/T28_panelv2_small.jpg[/image]

OSH Camp Scholler nite life - need input for book
HI, I think AirVenture is such a great event that I'm writing a guide book for first time visitors, part one of the book deals with camping at Camp Scholler. At my age (54), I find that by 8pm, I'm pretty pooped, maybe I'll take in one or two nights of Theatre in the Woods, other than that a few cool ones with friends is about it. On last visit to AirVenture, the young guys that camped next to me spent a few evenings in the Bud tent, north of the camp. I need some input for my book on what nite life there is around Camp Scholler, tips, stories, pics would be greatly appreciated. email me at ken@upaero.com or post your comments or pics. Thank-you - ken kalynuk

RE: Dynaflite 81" Spitfire
Retracts folding outward - all I can offer is the photo below, I think I used the retract rail locations shown on the plan and postioned the gear to fold outward, assemble your retracts and lay them out on the plan. I did not want to do any modifications so I had retracting between the spar and LE. I went 3 3/4" wheels (Robarts - only 3 3/4 I could find) so that I had a fit between the spar and the LE. A scale retract operation would involve cutting the main spar and adding a sub main spar - too much work for me on this sport model, I went with the simple flip. Good Luck! -ken [image]http://www.upaero.com/spitfires/00dynaflite_spit_002.jpg[/image]

HI, if planeoldme cannot provide a canopy, an alternate source for a canopy that could fit is the Brian Taylor's Spit Mk IX at [link]http://www.briantaylorscaleplans.com/product.aspx?p=2513[/link] from Traplet which has an USA office and ships from the US. I ordered a couple of these to have on hand for future projects. cheers - ken k

RE: Dave Platt !/5 Spitfire Flight Characteristics
I built mine with a 3 piece wing for ease of transport and I think this fattened up the weight, landings were a workout for me and mine was tippy on taxi, mine was 26#. On the other hand, I've seen one built and flown by a experienced builder with a ST2500 in it, he said it weighed 20#, flew like a young female feline (p. cat), he would do touch and goes until the cows came home, he finally lost it when the engine quit and he did not hear it quit with all the other warbirds in the air, he had to belly it in a way off the field and it took heavy damage. I ask, does it fly and what does it weigh, I bring a scale with me to check the weight. cheers -ken

RE: Ziroli T-6/SNJ builds
HI, I have no thread started, I've just posted some build photos on my web site at [link=http://www.upaero.com/AT6.html]Tex's Harvard build[/link]....the build is done by Tex Gehman (Tex trained on the full size Harvard back in the late 50's, this is his third r/c harvard (Byron, Midwest)). ps.... a few years ago, Tex wrote to Model Airplane news about a RCAF Harvard that competed at Top Gun and MAN featured in the Top Gun color coverage photos, Tex pointed out that the model was not a HArvard but an AT6 as the rear of the canopy was no the correct shape, a delightful man who also flew the 86 and 104, getting back to the Havard - AT6. Our models will be in the RCAF paint scheme with the AT6 canopy from Ziroli. There are a few threads at www.rcscalebuilder.com on the Ziroli AT6 but they want $ membership donation to post so I've put the photos on my site to share with all. Tex will have his r/c Harvard flying this year, mine is about 30% built and I do no think I will have my ready for this spring. I donot think ours will have scale exhaust to start with, the models are intended to be everyday sport flyers, thus we are building a lot of KISS into the ships. The Harvard had a heater pipe running of the exhaust to provide cockpit heat, I may fix a dummy exhaust and then run the G62 exhaust out the bottom. one more story..... watching Tex land his r/c Harvards are most interesting, in the RCAF he was taught to plant the tail wheel of Harvard first then followed by the main gear, while this worked fine when one is in the cockpit using this method in the r/c Harvard resulted in some major kangaroo landings and gave us the opportunity to rib the master. cheers - all the best to all of you this holiday season. -ken [image]http://www.upaero.com/harvards/BCATP_022.jpg[/image] . Hi, we are building 4 Zilroli AT6 Harvards. We too have thought of the scale exhaust but have not got to that point as yet. RE: 9303 help please
on my x9303 I used program mix 5 to slave the tail wheel steering to my rudder. it is mixed in at 100% each way. I also made my own list of the way I use my channels and try to standardise all my models to this list. cheers - ken [image]http://upaero.com/rctips/channel_list_jpg..jpg[/image]

RE: Dynaflite 81" Spitfire
On the Dynaflite I am building from plans, I have the gear retracting outward but I made the wheel wells ahead of the spar, I took an easier route for this sport scale model. Canopies - I see that Traplet (shipping oput of the USA) sells the Brian Taylor canopy that should fit the Dynaflite. I will use a US41 gasser on mine, the engine weight will be welcome in balancing. Paint scheme will be in RAF 66 squadron [link]http://www.upaero.com/georgecorbett.html[/link] cheers -ken [image]http://www.upaero.com/spitfires/00dynaflite_spit_001.jpg[/image] .
